There was little in the way of obstacles for Rex and his group on their way back to leave the sealed small world, most other hopefuls were still busy trying and surpassing the trial while the bunny people were more than happy to see his group leaving. They had learned early enough not to mess with Rex and his people. It was fairly certain, or so the higher ups of the Naara people had concluded, that precisely his party had most likely already gotten through the trial and taken the final inheritance, freeing their people from the task set before them hundreds of years ago. It also meant that they could explore the wider world outside, something that not only the royal family themselves had been waiting for with bated breaths, but the entire popution in general. Though some concerns were emerging regarding the levels of danger the said outer world contained, especially so when monsters like Rex existed.
Fara had cautiously asked regarding precisely that and was promptly pulled by the nose as Danica joked for a while that Rex was not considered all that impressive outside, barely above mediocre, truth be told. It was only when the rest of the would be challengers from the outside world arrived that the joke was up, bringing plenty of compints and whining from the exasperated bunny girl only receiving more joking remarks regarding the time it took Fara to realize how much she had been fooled. And while cautious. Fara had started to act just a bit more openly. So long as she did not put on airs or tried to harm Rex group, she was given plenty of leeway to express herself.
Still, with their reason for being here solved, Rex's group departed soon enough, leaving Fara with the explicit warning that she is not to actually tell anyone his group a;ready cleared the trial, unless someone else does the same and asks stupid questions about the empty chamber. There was no need for Naara to take any heat regarding Rex's actions after all. The camp just outside the sealed realm was quite active, people scurrying around non stop. Emanai and Pyra requested a bit of time so they can inform the rest of their sect's people here that they have already returned and would head back home with Rex's as they had invited him.
Rex had just shrugged and nodded in agreement, informing the sisters of the pce his own temporary camp was located in case Pyra had already forgotten and that his group would be waiting for them there to depart. As expected, their small campsite was virtually undisturbed, though Danica did note that is felt like there was the scent of someone unknown around their camp. Rex just chuckled and mentioned that the moment they had entered the sealed realm there was a rather arrogant fool who had tried to sneak in with hopes of stealing something we had left behind. An early snack for Snek is all.
True to their word, the sisters returned soon after, having spent almost no extra time whatsoever on their own little errand. Endless Journey had already dismantled their camp and were waiting for them in a rexed manner. Emanai's eyes sparkled as she noticed Wari and Sidsal. The elder of the two elves went on a small rant, expining quite a few things she had read about abyss falcons, once again finding a reason to see Rex in another light entirely.
"Are they perchance from the same nest?" she asked eventually as the group was preparing to mount the birds, Rex having created incredibly sturdy, yet aerodynamically efficient and retively light harnesses for the falcons, providing the group with much more comfortable flight while burdening the falcons themselves as little as possible.
"No, they are a couple. As soon as I will find a good pce to settle and will not be in need of their assistance, they will finally get to creating their own flock." His words caused Emanais eyes to bulge, her surprise evident.
"What the fuck! Just who are you?" she excimed, earning a few cautious gnces their direction from some of the nearby people, though quite a few quickly averted their gazes as well, either aware of the sad fate of the would be thief, or recognizing the sect attires both Emanai and Pyra were wearing.
"A LORD candidate?" Rex replied questioningly, not entirely sure how else to answer.
"Oh, right, yea, that does make sense." Emanai rubbed her temples, realizing just how much of an anomaly Rex was.
"Told you he is going to cause the old bat to fall on his ass." Pyra smirked happily.
"So my beauties? Who wants to ride with Pyra and Emanai?" Rex asked "Or do you want me to do it? I believe it better to have at least one of us with them to calm the falcons."
"I say we rotate. One flight one, another the next. I doubt we will reach their headquarters in a single day." suggested Eve.
"I'm down. Who first then?" Rex agreed.
"You." Danica pointed towards Rex, pulling Eve towards Sidsal and smirking "We have some girls talk pending anyways." With those words, the girls were on the back of Sidsal and rose into air.
"Well, you heard the dy." Rex addressed the elven sisters "Let's head out."
Just moments ter they too were on the back of their own falcon, the rge wings lifting them from the ground and joining it's mate in the sky. Emanai fished out a snow sphere that was simir to the one Pyra had used to find this pce and her, and pointed in a certain direction.
"That way!" she directed and with a single thought from Rex they departed.
The saddle was rge and designed well enough so that the trio did not have to squeeze together, allowing them to enjoy the scenery and a light breeze as they flew through the air, earning Rex unconcealed praise from Emanai. Apparently such aerodynamic, though the people did not use the word in this world, saddles for flying mounts, especially ones designed for multiple people, were quite the rare find. Emanai was even more willing to introduce Rex to a few people who could help him establish a business if he so wished. His deadpan reaction to the offer caused the elven woman to ugh for a moment and then drop the subject entirely. A creature of his might could earn more money in a single delve after all, so why even bother?
The coming week of their travel was rather monotone, if the morning after their first stop and night's rest was to be ignored. True to her nature, Danica had once again pyed the minx, not at all hiding the sounds of their nightly activities, no doubt to tease or fluster the elven sisters. She succeeded big time as well, the two were blushing whenever they accidentally gnced towards Rex, either responding to a question he would ask and establishing eye contact on reflex, or when replying to either Danica or Eve who happened to be standing next to him.
With blushing faces they would quickly avert their gazes, acting unusually timid. Rex, well aware of what was happening, chose to do the smart thing and ignored it all, pretending like he did not notice the reaction of the sisters, making it even more embarrassing, since it made it all the more obvious. It took the sisters two days to get over it, though Danica milked the time she had for all it's worth. As she herself stated when the fun period was over
''Damn! Hadn't had that much ugh in quite a long time. Thanks girls!"
Soon enough, enormous building complex appeared on the horizon, like some sort of a fantasy fortress it grew in size as they flew closer and closer to it. A grand wall surrounded the headquarters of the Dawning Sun, with rger still towers making the already impoing wall appear even more so. Countless spires rose up towards the heavens from within the wall, indicating just how well developed and advanced the architecture and engineering had come in the inner regions, creating a stark contrast with Eve's and Danica's nations of origin. One had to gnce just once at the grand wall to understand just how vast the difference was. A point of interest that Rex did not shy away from asking. As it turned out, the construction of such splendors required quite a few earth and a few other elemental mages, making it quite the tall task for the nations on the outer edge, purely due to the ck of talented enough personnel. Who would have thought.
Soon enough, Emanai fished out another item from her spacial ring, this one a token of sorts, it's purpose revealed just moments ter, as they passed a barely sensible, yet still there, magic barrier, causing the token to shimmer in a light green color. As Pyra expined, it was there to warn the sect that whoever had just entered the sects territory was a friendly and not unannounced guest or an enemy. And sure, such system could be theoretically exploited, however their sect had done plenty of things to lessen such a thing coming to pass, one of which was the fact that these tokens became inert once it's rightful owner died. Yes, they were crafted and bound to each and every disciple important enough to warrant the ownership of one.
"Tell me honestly, how many fools will flip out once they realize that Wari and Sidsal are abyss falcons? " Rex asked as they moved closer and closer to the rge walls.
"Under normal circumstances, I would say all the outer courtyard elders and some from the inner courtyard as well and you would no doubt have to deal with plenty of them flies buzzing around trying to acquire an egg or two, but since we are going straight to the old bat's residence as well as your personal combat power, no such problems should arise. I will have one of the bbber mouthed servants 'accidentally' hear that we are hosting and S ranked guest. That alone should ensure that ninety nine percent of said flies don't approach you within a few hundred meters range at the very least. As a rge scale sect, we have plenty of stories about S rankers getting annoyed and the result of said annoyance manifesting itself." Pyra expined.
"What if there is a section of the headquarters in need of a full redevelopment though?" Rex asked with a slight smirk on his face.
"I would want to say we don't have quite so dumb people in the sect, buut..... Well, you know how it is." Slightly nervously added Emanai.
"Well, so long as I don't have to roam around your sect while we visit, should not have any issues at all, so better make sure I don't have to dies. Ah, and don't forget that skilled maid of mine I was promised." Rex reminded.
"Will send for her the moment we nd. I already have the perfect woman in mind. You will not be dissapointed, I guarantee."
"I will take your word for it." Rex smiled, their two falcons finally crossing the walls, not a single guard that manned them reacting to them crossing over in any other way than just staring at the majestic creatures passing over them, already aware of the rge birds carrying high ranking members of their sect back home. As they flew towards the residence of the sisters master, Rex could feel the excitement and wonder leaking over through his soul link from Danica and Eve, both taking in the incredible sights before their eyes, both falcons having slowed down their speed at their request.
"Are they enjoying the sights?" knowingly asked Emanai, quite pleased with the idea, having noticed the reduction in their travel speed.
"Indeed they are. It is a nice pce."
"Only nice?"
"I have seen things none of you could even hope to imagine. Maybe someday I will be in the mood to show you some of it, at least the memories of them."
"Why just memories?"
"Said pces are inaccessible from here and I don't quite know when I will be strong enough to bring someone else there."
"Just what pces could that be? You don't look nearly old enough to have gone to any other continent." Emanai looked towards Rex sceptically.
"I have my secrets." he replied, adding "Ow. seems like we have arrived?" noticing a swarm of bats leaving a mansion below and serving as a makeshift corridor for the abyss falcons to nd in a well prepared pce, clearly meant for flying creatures to come and go from.
Just moments ter as they nded, an elder gentleman came towards them, both his gait and stature radiating both confidence and power and thanks to Rex concealing his own insane power, the man could finish his no doubt well rehearsed and refined entrance.
"I am truly gd that you both are safe." the gentleman spoke as soon as the entire group had jumped off the falcons with Rex thanking both birds for their hard work and providing them with a rge piece of high quality meat and storing away their saddles.
As he did so, both sisters first politely bowed towards the man then hugged him, their close retionship clear for all present to see.
"It is all thanks to Rex, Danica and Eve." Pyra beamed as she expined "I told you he would be of help, see!"
"That you did indeed, that you did." he replied, then once he was out of the death grip of a hug he had been locked in, he turned towards Rex's group and bowed deeply.
"I am truly grateful from the bottom of my heart that you have shown such kindness towards my disciples. If there is anything I can do for you, please just tell me. I will move mountains if necessary to fulfill said requests."
"It's fine. Emanai has already assured me that I will receive the promised reward and that is plenty."
"May I inquire as to what had been promised?"
"Would you like to hear the full version, the joke pulling the smarter sisters leg as well or only the end result?" Rex asked, a smirk on his face as his eyes moved towards the sisters.
"Nooo!!!" a panicked wail escaped Pyras mouth as she dashed towards Rex, only to be tripped by a couple of mastiff looking dogs and keeping the girl busy.
"The full version if you would not mind sir." the gentleman responded. "Ah, but where is my manners. I am lord Sebastian Nightraven. Inner courtyard elder of the Dawning Sun sect. Pyra must have no doubt forgotten to introduce me, probably calling me and olf bat or something."
His words caused Danica and Eve to struggle containing their ughter at just how accurately Sebastian had assumed, causing a knowing smile to spread on the mans face. "Teenage girls and their rebellious phase, what can a single old man do?" she shrugged, a light smile of his own spreading across the man's face.
"Pleasure to meet you Sebastian." Rex spoke, pulling the two dies closer to him, a hand around each of their waists, pulling them closer and not shying away in the least. "These two beauties are Danica and Evelysandra, my companions and lovers, both are A ranked adventurers in power and have been slowly inching ever closer towards the level of LORD candidates." The start of his introductions had little effect on Sebastian's face, though at the mention of a potential LORD'S candidate, and two of them by his side, the vampire master could do little to hide the bulging of his eyes.
"I am Rex, S rank adventurer and obviously a LORD candidate in what I believe to be three, no four disciplines. A pleasure." That did the trick, as Rex could see the vacant eyes of Sebastian as the older man tried to comprehend just what the fucj he was whitnesing. There was no way anyone would be stupid enough to bluff before him without the actual power to back up said words and that, that was just insane. Still, his age and experience in handling all sorts of bullshit situations came in handy right at that moment, his composure returning and a strained, but respectable facial expression returning on him.
"My, my. It seems my girls have made some pretty impressive friends. So, how about that story?"
"Ah, yes. I had promised Pyra to save her sister so long as I get to pick and elven woman to be my maid once her sister is saved." Rex spoke with slight smirk on his face. "What a better way to stiff those pompous elves if necessary than to have a maid of pureblood serving under you, don't you think?"
"It is indeed a great way to do that, I cannot disagree."
"In her distress and panic Pyra agreed instantly and off we went to save Emanai, who truth be told was indeed in grave danger. Had we been a few days, a week tops ter, she would have been gone, an aberration of sorts having taken over her body, but that's not important right now, you can ask the sisters ter for a proper expnation. What was the funny part was when Emanai came to and noticed us, she asked for the price Pyra had agreed to and hearing it expined, proceeded to offer herself as said maid, lest Pyra get picked."
"Of course, and elven maid once the sister is saved, which would be the moment she is in your presence. What could harm her with you there protecting her." Sebastian immediately understood the loophole in the deal that was made.
"The joke worked well, I have to say. The expressions were peerless." Rex smiled as he confirmed.
"And I assume once the joke was over, Emanai promised one of her personal maids?"
"Precisely. I got what I wanted, Pyra too, while getting a lesson to never lose one's cool. And Emani, well she gets to live and reunite with her sisters. I call that a mutual win."
And then, before anything else was spoken, Rex and Sebastian sharply turned their heads in the same direction, their eyes locked on something far off in the distance.
"What was that feeling?" Both Eve and Danica asked, having sensed something vaguely, though not quite as well as both Rex and Sebastian.
