46 Mama’s Burden

Wow, this man is more impressive than I thought. His heart booms while his breath comes out a pink mist. His body deflects my gentle vibrations. His body of stone. “I want paradise back.” Orange tears roll down his face, his hands crunch and crack under his own grip. “I want that too, Diesel. A world where kids don’t have to be afraid.” “I have to fix it. No normal person can stop these demons.”

I slam down on my armrest. The waves echo out. I groan and grab at my head. Reloading! Giant spider, six o' clock! I grab my ears as Diesel grabs my shoulders. What’s wrong, Mama?! An army of screeches fill my mind, coming for the women and children. I cry and hyperventilate as I desperately stay still as I can. “What happened?” I gulp, then stammer, “There’s no end to them. They’re advancing toward us.” I grab his shirt tight and look towards his eyes, “If they get through, Jack-“ He rubs my shoulders, “They won’t get through.” I shake my head, “No, we must run.” He shakes me and I jump- We don’t lose any more ground boys! Cannons explode, guns blaze, but when Diesel speaks, it gets muffled out. “There is nowhere to run. I’ll fix our problem. Point to where they’re fighting.” My arm shakes as I lift a finger. I groan at the sounds flooding my head as he marches off.
