Chapter 10: Inherited Moves

  "Inheritance?"

From the literal meaning, Torii thought of the biology he learned in his previous life, wondering if there was any retionship between the two.

But thinking of what he knew, and expining it in this world, Torii couldn't help but feel strange.

The pnts and animals of his previous life could be expined by DNA, but in this fantastical world, some Pokémon were difficult to expin with science.

A Geodude with a body of rock, a Magnemite made of magnets, a Gastly surrounded by a cloud of smoke...could these creatures be expined clearly?

Then, Torii raised his own questions, a problem that even Jun was puzzled by.

"That's why we need to study it." Katsumune gave a vague answer with a smile.

"Then what is your main achievement, Teacher?" Joy Jun asked.

Whether it was Master Aizen or Master Aya, their accomplishments were remarkable. Speaking of which, Joy Jun, as Master Katsumune's student, didn't really know what her teacher's "secret technique" was.

"Me? Let me think... If I can teach a Pokémon three or four moves, would that count?" Master Katsumune said.

  Three or four moves?

Not only Joy Jun, but even Torii was puzzled.

He had just cited the example of Master Aya, who was also a Top Breeder, who taught a talentless Snorx nearly forty moves, and now, Master Katsumune was also a Top Breeder, so how could he say that his achievement was to teach a Pokémon three or four moves?

"You're puzzled, right?" Master Katsumune said.

  Both of them nodded.

"Then let me ask you, taking the most common Taillow in the Hoenn region as an example, can it learn Quick Attack?"

  "Of course it can."

Not only could it, but it could also learn it easily. The Taillow species could easily learn Quick Attack.

"Then can it learn Steel Wing?"

  "It can."

Without thinking, Joy Jun and Torii gave this answer. Although learning it was not as easy as Quick Attack, it was not difficult.

  "Then what about Rain Dance?"

As soon as he finished speaking, Jun and Torii were stunned.

Rain Dance, how could this move be reted to Taillow?

"Although it is very difficult, there is still a slight possibility that Taillow can learn Rain Dance," Master Katsumune said with a smile.

"Then let me ask, can Taillow learn Mirror Move, Refresh, or even Thunderbolt?"

Master Katsumune once again asked examples that the two had never even heard of.

"To be accurate, if it learns normally, a Taillow can never learn moves like Mirror Move and Refresh in its entire life, but if it is through inheritance, and with the guidance of a Breeder, nothing is impossible. This is my achievement, to let Pokémon learn moves that they could never learn in their entire life through inheritance." Master Katsumune ughed heartily, he seemed very excited talking about this.

"For the magical species of Pokémon, they can even mate and reproduce between different species, and the combination of these different species often brings some unimaginable magic."

"The inheritance that I study is based on the combination of Pokémon of different species."

"Don't underestimate these one or two moves. A different starting point can often drive the deeper talent of Pokémon, tap greater potential, and even break the limits of the species."

"What about Thunderbolt?" Jun asked in surprise. Breaking the limits of the species? Did that mean that even Taillow could learn Thunderbolt?

If Taillow could learn Thunderbolt, it would simply refresh her worldview.

  Could inheritance really do this?

"Unfortunately, there is no such precedent so far, but precisely because of this, it is worth my research and exploration." The old man shook his head, but immediately showed a smile.

His attitude directly changed Torii's understanding of Breeders, allowing him to re-understand this profession.

"Is it possible for my Butterfree to inherit moves?" Torii asked.

"Butterfree, so far, no inherited moves have been found, maybe my cultivation is not enough." Master Katsumune expressed his regret. So far, no Butterfree has been found that can learn moves that they could not have learned through inheritance.

"I see." Torii nodded, but he was still looking forward to it. Not finding it didn't mean there wasn't, did it? The unknown was the most fundamental reason for madness.

"Then what moves can my Chansey inherit?" Jun asked impatiently.

"Chansey, let me think. Aromatherapy, Gravity, Heal Bell, Mud Bomb, etc. There are many more, but your Chansey is specially prepared for newcomers in your family, so it's impossible to have inherited moves." Master Katsumune said.

Jun hummed, but didn't have much regret.

"Perhaps one day, the inherited moves that have never been seen will be discovered by you," the old man said with a smile, obviously having great expectations for the two of them.

Master Katsumune's words also made the two of them feel a different emotion in their hearts.

In which field would they develop?

Would she, Joy Jun, follow the path of stationing in Pokémon Centers like everyone in her family? Would helping Trainers treat injured Pokémon be her life's work?

As for Torii, he thought even more.

He chose to be a Breeder initially because he saw the benefits of becoming a Breeder, but after listening to the description of a Top Breeder, it seemed that a Breeder was a jack-of-all-trades, and he wouldn't lose out in doing anything.

Breeders could make Pokémon grow healthier and more perfectly, train the Pokémon's proficiency in using moves, and beautify Pokémon. What was the difference between this and a Coordinator?

Not only that, teaching a Pokémon dozens of moves, probably even an outstanding Trainer wouldn't have such strength. With so many moves, wouldn't the choice of tactics in battle be more perfect?

Moreover, cultivating a special Pokémon that has moves it shouldn't be able to learn seemed to be a very challenging thing.

Thinking about it this way, Torii found that Breeders were indeed not just a profession that made nutritional supplements and took care of Pokémon.

Torii's initial goal was just to use the identity of a Breeder to give himself a fixed income, but now it seemed that Breeders were not simple. Even professions such as Coordinators, Trainers, and schors could not do without the foundation of Breeders.

Carrying the expectations of the entire Azure Abode, Torii had vowed to step onto the final stage of the Grand Festival with Butterfree.

Now that he thought about it, this didn't seem to deviate from being a Breeder.

Even, becoming an excellent Breeder would make it easier to reach the Top Coordinator, the Elite Four, or the Champion.

"Thank you, Master Katsumune." Torii's eyes gradually brightened, his understanding of Breeders became more profound and curious.
