As this one has yet to find a Dao Companion, they are unable to convey the process in great detail. They can, however, speak on the theory behind the process.
As the writer listed in the last section, the process can be optimized through the contact occurring via the meridians in both people being physically close to each other. One way this can be accomplished is through sexual activity, as the genitals in both males and females have a densely packed web of blood tubes and nerves, both of which can become meridians once a person enters the first stage, and they are close to the surface, thus minimizing the distance once the two are co-mingled.
The additional activity may also serve to relax the other person or distract them, allowing the energy to penetrate more deeply and therefore have more conflict, leading to greater improvements with each session.

The activity may also lead to the two participants being more in synchronization both physically and mentally, leading to more detailed conflicts within the qi which happen almost instinctively, thus making those same defensive actions more likely to occur outside the body when the qi comes into conflict, further improving the quality of the spiritual root.
Finally, specifically for those in the second level or above, the location of the dantian or minor dantian in the bowels is close enough to the sight of dual cultivation that, should another person’s qi touch it, it will effectively result in a massive battle occurring. The dantian, however, is far better able to handle the damage caused by the conflict and, though it may be slightly damaged when this occurs, when the dantian heals it will produce far stronger qi, as well as greatly expand should one be in the second level.
It is for this last reason that the writer recommends that all who practice cultivation, unless they have taken a vow of celibacy, should take a dao companion upon entering the second level, as doing so can rapidly accelerate a person’s cultivation.
