I'm actually surprised Willow came here to look for me, although if I wasn't at our home there's not too many other pces I'd be.
I gave Kayalett a look but she just shook her head.
"I would prefer not to be a part of this. I will stay with you as I promised Arath but I would rather not be included if that's okay."
I nodded giving her a quick kiss before going to the door. When I opened it I found not only Willow but Malikeria, Flooly and Rekif as well. Seems the whole family came out today and Malikeria was wearing clothes this time.
Willow had adorned herself with what I can only assume was the centaur equivalent of scout armour. The hardened leather not quite form fitting around her horse half so I had to guess it was a hand me down from someone. Not that I'd compin that she had a little armour but it was the six quivers of arrows, three on each side that actually made me pause. To be fair if you can carry more it's always better to especially as an archer I just never thought about how much extra she could carry.
"Good morning husband. I have prepared myself for our trip and have gotten you something I hope will be of value to you." Willow greeted me proudly pointing to a bundle of rags her father currently held.
The stallion grunted something I couldn't make out causing Malikeria to roll her eyes. "What my husband is trying to say is we should probably give this to you in a more open environment."
"Oh yes. We should move to the training fields." Willow added helpfully.
I could tell this was some kind of weapon and I really needed one but the length and shape were nothing like the swords I've previously used. It was longer and didn't quite have the width as well. Not that I could see much under the bundle it was wrapped in but it did make me excited to see what it was.
"Lead the way. I apologise I don't know where it is myself."
Willow jumped in surprise. "Of course sorry my lord." She came up beside me and offered her hand that I took. It was sweet and a little cute especially when she blushed. Offering my other hand to Kayalett but she refused wanting to hang back. Still in sight but not to close.
It was an interesting dynamic. I wanted to offer Kayalett a bit more attention especially after what we said to each other but she still wanted to be in the background of sorts. Would have to make time just the two of us. That probably went for everyone in my herd, something to talk to Arath about when we get back.
Our small group made our way to a part of the city I'd not been to but I instantly knew the sound of metal on metal as we got closer. The fields were very big compared to what I was use to but that seemed to be a running trend with centaurs and each held a group sparing or running over objects pced to make it difficult. I could even make out Brult in one of them harassing a group of young stallions into formation. I almost ughed remembering my training days and the instructors insults.
We managed to find a space to ourselves in amongst everyone and our arrival was noted by most but we were ignored for the most part.
Once we were situated Willow took the bundle from her father and came over to me.
"This may not be perfect my lord but I hope it suits you well in the start of our endeavours." She then proceeded to pull the rags away to reveal a weapon I wasn't that familiar with.
It was effectively a long stick with a rge bde on the end except it had a metal coating on the underside of the long part. Rekif seemed to see the confusion in my face as he grunted out one word.
"Give."
Can't say I've ever used one before but I'm not opposed to learning. I can also get a skill set for it when I get some skill points.
I started to reach for it. "Thank you Willow I'm sure...."
Bondable weapon detected. Would you like to bind [Willows devotion] to you?
That took me by surprise. Everyone else noticed my hesitation and Willow herself had a look that bordered on panic.
I'd stopped halfway towards the weapon and didn't finish my sentence. The poor girl probably thought I was going to refuse it. I couldn't let that happen.
"I'm sure it will be the start of something great." I fully reached for the give taking it into my hands while also accepting the prompt.
[Willows devotion] 1 acquired.
The weapon disappeared into thin air shocking everyone, myself included. Ummm what the hell just happened?
I quickly brought the new skill to mind and the give returned to my hands. Okay so the weapon is now a skill? How does that work? I was briefly reminded of the harpy and her feather bde. Maybe it was simir.
Dismissing the skill took the give with it and summoning to brought it back. Oh I could work with this.
The girls all seemed confused, Rekif however didn't and the stoic stallion came up to me and gestured for the weapon. I complied but it dissolved the moment I let go. He didn't seem surprised.
"Bonded?" He grunted.
"Yeah." I replied back.
That seemed to please him and he went over to Willow and ruffled her hair. Both the mothers gave him looks.
"Going to expin husband?" Malikeria asked crossing her arms.
Rekif groaned. "Bonded weapon. Willow made, Lazarus owns."
We all shared a look at that. Really unhelpful.
"Is that a good thing?" Willow asked trying to hold herself up. The fear was still in her eyes so I got a little closer and ran my hand over her fnk.
The stallions eyes lost there grouchyness at his daughter and for the first time actually said a full sentence. "It's the best thing a smith can make. No matter what he can't lose it and it will grow in strength with him. Only those that have exceptional skills or those who put everything into its creation can make one."
I was more surprised by him saying more than one or two words if I'll be honest and it seemed like I wasn't the only one.
"Is it so hard for you to talk like that more often?" Flooly mockingly growled giving her husband a sp on his ass.
Willow ughed and Malikeria joined in at the centaurs discomfort. He tried to look for me for support but I just held my hands up in surrender.
It was amusing to watch them all. Reminded me of my own. Maybe I'd go see them when I got access to the world tree. That would be nice, so much I needed to tell them, to apologies for.
"Are you alright?" Kayalett was besides me with a worried look. It was then I noticed a tear running down my cheek.
Wiping it away and shaking the memories away I looked at her. "Fine just remembering my own family."
I could see my own sadness starting to be mirrored by her so I switched back to the give. "What do you think?"
Kayalett took the change in topic. "I believe it's really good but I don't know what it really is."
"Neither. Something else to experiment with. Care for a duel?"
"Sure." Brult said butting into our conversation. "Arath was given a reason not to show up today but I see no reason why you can't take her pce." He was followed by four other centaurs all from the younger group we'd seen when we entered.
I could see the bait a mile away but I kind of didn't want to refuse. Part of that was my own pride I'll admit but it was also a good opportunity to use the give in a friendly environment as oppose to try it for the first time in the dungeon. There was also the fact Kayalett was there and while using her to heal us now wasn't very good pnning wise still better than having no experience when your life's on the line.
"Sure. How many am I up against?" I could feel the energy beginning to course through my body at the prospect of a good fight. I was also sure he wasn't trying to set me up from the fact he did defend me during our council meeting and is the reason I can have a more centaur sized member at times.
"I'm hoping you can whip all four of these new recruits. They seem to think having two legs makes you easy to beat." There was a glint in his eye that reminded me of when I thought the hero css would carry me through everything. Oh he wanted them to be humbled. That I could provide.
"Two minutes?" I asked giving him a nod.
"They'll be ready by then." Mr Hercules replied.
I turned to Kayalett only to find she'd been joined by everyone else had joined her. Willow especially gave me a concerned look. "Are you sure husband?"
"Positive." I replied giving her a kiss. "Going to need you to cheer me on though. Can you do that?"
My mare nodded and went over to her father and mothers and I swear Rekif actually gave me a smile. Must have been seeing things because when I blinked he was back to his signature scowl.
Kayalett didn't say anything as she went over to join them but her eyes showed confidence. Looks like she believes in me.
All I'm missing was Arath and my cheer squad would be complete. Although she'd probably disagree with this whole thing so maybe it's a good thing she's not here.
Getting into position I zily held the give in one hand with the tip in the ground while giving Brult a nod to signal I was ready.
This was going to be fun.
