Dreamtime 4

  A lesson of light

That we may know the Maker

  And make light within

  Three holy makings

Formed of sand, heated by sun

  The Great Maker's gifts

  Gifted from the start

When this world was freshly formed

  And none were elders

  With these three we see

We let light pass, we move light

  Shape light to our needs

For the Great Maker sees all

Through the Maker's gifts we see

  To see is to know

  We must see ourselves

As the Maker sees we are

  But we see through glass

  The glass shapes the light

And the glass softens the light

  And glass reflects light

  These are the three gifts

  Window and mirror and lens

  Bringing light to us

  All light is given

That we may see, know, and live

  And reflect light back

  We own not this world

All is of the Great Maker

  We own not ourselves

  Our faces reflect

The face of the Great maker

  And his reflects ours

  The eyes are the light

  Letting us see purity

  Saving us from dark

  We need eyes to see

To see not is to know not

  And to fall from light

  Eyes are our windows

  Letting the Maker light up

  Our homes and our deeds

  Let the light inside

Inside your mind and your home

  Or else fall to dark

  The mirror lets us

See where we else might not see

  And send light around

  With the mirror's help

We can put house upon house

  And have light for all

  With many mirrors

  We multiply the sun's heat

  So metal may melt

  With many mirrors

  We multiply the sun's heat

  So water bubbles

  By lens we may see

Things great and small, near and far

  As the Maker sees

  By lens we may see

  The smallest imperfection

  Or greatest wonder

  By lens we must see

How great a world we live in

  And how small we are

  By lens we must see

  The tiniest motes of life

  And how great we are

  By lens we may see

  Better than we could without

  As our eyes fail us

  By lens we may see

  Distant stars and distant worlds

  Which are not our own

  For this world alone

Was made for us to live on

  And go not to war

  Thus ends the lesson

  Remember the Maker's gifts

  And the warnings

  But lessons are not

  Enough to satisfy the

  Seeker of knowledge

  The seeker must know

Not just what is said to be

  But what truly is

  Knowledge comes from sight

  Hearing brings only belief

  Unless there is trust

  Why should the learner

  Trust those who restrict teaching

  From half those who seek?

  Should not all seek truth

To better know what is light

  And see it with eyes?

  To hear is only

  An echo of true knowing

  A shadow of light

  So the seeker seeks

And so the seeker must sneak

  To peak through the gates

  Why is truth gated?

The Great Makers light should be

  Visible to all

  The seeker's mind is

  More than enough to handle

  Knowledge kept from her

  Why exclude any

Who wish to seek out all truth

  Because of their birth?

  The seeker will not

Be held back by any rule

  Knowledge rules all rules

  Any mind can learn

  Even when attached to a

  Body that can bear

  Why should the gift of

  Bringing forth new life reduce

  How much can be learned?

  Did not the Maker

Bring forth all life on this world

  From the Maker's light?

  Is not the Maker

The one who knows all knowledge

  And untold secrets?

  So the seeker must

  Reflect the image of the

  Great Maker who sees

  So the seeker must

  Go forth and investigate

  To see what is so

  And the seeker will

See what exists in the world

  Not just inside books

  Forrester's Crossing

Not the best place to look from

  But still good enough

  Forrester's Crossing

  Lacks the best facility

  The prime is Yuffin

  On a moonlit night

  Seeker's seventeenth summer

  Darkness is held back

  On a moonlit night

There is no reason to fear

  The shadow terrors

  On this moonlit night

The seeker slipped from the house

  To the place of stars

  From here we look up

  See through lenses and mirrors

  Window to night sky

  Here we track motion

  Paths of the wandering stars

  Whether fast or slow

  Here is a refuge

To look into the night sky

  Surrounded by dark

  A place of honour

  A place of higher learning

  A place for old men

  The seeker is not

  Welcome to enter this place

  Not at any time

  The seeker is not

  Held back by the restriction

  Knowledge must be found

  The seeker must not

Be caught lurking in this place

  Punishment is dire

  With most silent steps

  The seeker departs from home

  Path lit by the moon

  With most shallow breaths

The seeker looks in sheer awe

  At the instruments

  Tools of looking far

  Reserved for those the clerics

  Deem to be worthy

  The seeker cares not

  For approval of body

  Only growth of mind

  The seeker climbs up

  Seeking the higher learning

  Waiting up the rungs

  Climb up the ladder

  Ascend into the heavens

  Eyepiece pierces sky

  Look into a world

A new world of distant light

  Eyepiece brings it close

  The stars still too far

  Only seen as distant dots

  No visible size

  The fast stars flash by

  Near to earth but miniscule

  Gone in five minutes

  Finding wanderers

  Takes much careful adjustment

  But a sound startles

  The seeker freezes

Must not be heard or seen here

  Must get out with stealth

  Need to get out now

Need to get down the ladder

  Hurry in panic

  Startled at worst time

A poor grip and loose footing

  History repeats

  Wake on ground in pain

  Expecting to face judgement

  A cleric looks down

  Familiar face

  Familiar grin and wink

  Offers secrecy

  Familiar face

  Familiar excuses

  Minimising crime

  The seeker walks home

  Trembling from the close escape

  Expected judgement

  The seeker must change

Knowledge is not worth the risks

  Loss of home or life

  The seeker has seen

  Enough to satisfy the

  Need to understand

  Sleep comes to body

Wounds will fade as time passes

  Though they are deserved

  Sleep comes to body

While the sleeper dreams of pain

  The seeker still thinks

  The seeker sleeps not

  So much knowledge to process

  New patterns to find

  A new day will come

A day of dark and judgement

  Wake on ground on pain
