Chapter 2: Route 16M

After an uneventful night, the morning announcement pys.

"Good morning, everyone! It is now 7 a.m. and nighttime is officially over! Time to rise and shine! Get ready to greet another beee-yutiful day!"

Slowly students exit their rooms and head to the Cafeteria for breakfast.

"Just like I expected" said Taka.

After a few minutes, most students were into the cafeteria and already eating. However, a few remained in their rooms, Taka went to assemble them. First was Celeste.

He rapped on her door repeatedly.

She cracked the door and stayed hidden behind it.

  "What?"

"I am gathering all students to assemble in the cafeteria for a morning meeting!" Taka answered.

"Hm... perhaps I will make an appearance. I would not be so te if that brat hadn't ruined my makeup... until ter."

She closed the door on him. 0 for 1. Next is Nekomaru.

His door was already slightly cracked and Taka could see he was in his bathroom.

  "Neko-"

Before he can get a word out, guttural shouts and inhuman smells come from within. Taka decided to shut the door and let him do his thing.

0 for 2. 3rd time's the charm. The st person he had to get was Hiyoko.

Knocking on her door, he quickly got a reply when Hiyoko swung it open with force.

"What do you want, Hall Monitor?" She asked.

"We're having a morning meeting. You should come to it as a student here."

"Hmph... I wanted some more beauty sleep, but I'm already perfect, aren't I?" She smiled.

"Hm? You look the same as yesterday. Pretty normal to me."

"Tch, whatever. I might come to your meeting."

  She closed the door.

  0 for 3, there's always next time.

Taka then went to the Cafeteria and informed all of the students about the new morning meetings, much to their dismay.

"Why can't our time be our own? We're still trying to find a way out." Said Sayaka

"You'll have time after the meeting. Now that most of us are here, any news, questions, or comments?"

"Yes, mainly what's going on and where are the other 16, but that's about it." Said Mukuro.

"OK then!" Taka responded "From now on, while your free time is your own, our overarching goal will be to find information regarding the other 16 students. Let us begin operation... 16M, M for mystery."

"Great, you got a damn code name for the thing now. Can we eat?" Said Mondo, losing patience.

  Taka sighs.

  "Fine. Meeting adjourned."

Everyone goes back to eating and Hiyoko, Nekomaru, and Celeste eventually show up. After most people are finished, they begin to go about their own daily lives. At least as much as they can, given that it basically consists solely of eating, sleeping, reading, taking baths, exercising, doing undry, and cooking.

  ***

  In the undry room...

Celeste is doing her undry as Mahiru walks in with her own.

"Ah, look what the cat dragged in." Celeste sneered.

"Come on Celeste, I had nothing to do with Hiyoko yesterday..."

"Is that so? I distinctly remember hearing her say 'This is for Mahiru' right before she ruined my makeup with her disgusting childish antics."

"You threw something back at her too, Celeste, that's what started the whole thing."

"Hmph, what fwed logic you follow."

  She approaches Mahiru.

  "What have you to wash?"

  Celeste looks into her hamper.

"Ah, of course. From the mess Hiyoko caused. An olive apron-style dress with a dress shirt and checkered tie? What a faux pas. You look like a farmer."

"Hey! Farmers are respectable people! I'd rather look like a farmer than a prostitute anyway..."

  "A... what?"

"You heard me. I dress simply because it's who I am, not to attract a guy. What are you? A pile of makeup and hair products covered with the ruffles and ces of your dress?"

"Hmph... typical peasant, no sense of fashion. You'd have been guillotined in Victorian France..."

She removes her clothes from the dryer.

"...Maybe you still can be. Au revoir!"

Celeste left as Mahiru felt more hate and frustration towards Celeste.

  "I don't look like a farmer..."

  ***

  In the AV room...

Ryota decided to go to where he had his dream and check it once again for good measure, knowing what he now knew.

He jumped slightly as he heard the door open behind him.

"A-ah! I'm sorry." Chihiro apologized. "Are you using this room? I can come back ter..."

"N-no! Not really. Not... at all." Ryota replied. "I'm just kinda... looking around I guess. Too much time without animating is really making me stress..."

"Ahaha! Yes, I get what you mean. I feel the same way about programming. I've just been writing code in my room on paper."

"Oh... really? That seems unproductive since you don't have a computer, but I get it. If I had enough paper I'd be able to make a flip book or just practice sketching..."

Chihiro looked hopeful. "There was some stationary stuff in the cssroom, maybe you could find some too?"

"Hmm... that could work. I don't wanna just lock myself in my room all day though." Ryota paused "S-say... do you wanna... maybe... w-walk around the school some... T-together?

Chihiro looked surprised by this offer and blushed lightly. "R-really? You and... m-me? I would... like that."

The two of them walked around the school some as a colborative bundle of social awkwardness.

  ***

Before anyone knew it, it was 10 PM again and the announcement crackled on.

"Mm, ahem, this is a school announcement. It is now 10 p.m. As such, it is officially nighttime. Soon, the doors to the dining hall will be locked, and entry at that point is strictly prohibited. Okay then...sweet dreams, everyone! Good night, sleeptight, don't let the bed bugs bite..."

Taka somehow managed to catch everyone before they went to bed.

"Everyone! We've decided to rotate hall monitors every day for proper rest. Today I ran a lottery and the monitors will be... Mukuro and Ibuki.

"Woo-hoo! Ibuki's gonna be up alllll night with Mukuro!"

"Why must my resolve be tested so continuously?" Wondered Mukuro.

With that, the end of the 2nd day was about everyone. Tension is increasing, and not just because of the game...
