70 - Traveling - Maeve

  Dear Risa,

Ok. I got a bikini. I am ready for whenever we get to the ocean. Which should be tomorrow.

When we were in Ooloopop, another brilliantly named city, I went shopping with Cali and Echo. They helped.

Oh, so, Cali’s magic carpet thing is supposed to be able to carry two people. But all three of us got on and it worked just fine. I don't know if we’re light enough it’s fine, or if Cali just put more mana into the runes that hold us up. Either way, we had a fancy carpet to ride around on as we went shopping yesterday. It was very fun, I recommend getting one.

I know you have a personal carriage and driver to take you anywhere you want, but with a carpet you don't have to worry about things like parking. Cali just tied hers around her waist like a skirt, and I gotta say it was pretty cute.

In other news, having a big wagon is pretty nice. Sure, like half of it is filled with letters and cargo, but it allows for us to pack more things, too! We’re currently saving up for a legit set of camping beds and mattresses. Yeah, mostly we stay at inns, but not having to worry about timing of when we reach a town, debating if it's late enough to validate stopping for the day, would be nice.

Right now, either we crash at an inn or on the ground. But if we had actual beds, then stopping on the side of the road wouldn't be something anyone complains about.

If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

Oh, before Echo joined the group, Cali made all the food. No one ever asked her to, and no one ever offered to do it instead. Her mom owns a diner, so she knows how to cook way better than anyone in the group. Actually, she’s a better cook than like half the people who are cooks, probably.

But then Echo joined and asked if we had like a cooking rotation or something. Curse that girl for suggesting me cooking once in a while is a good idea.

Yeah, it’s more fair to Cali. But she doesn't mind, and we were all very thankful to her for cooking.

Anyhow, Risa dear, that is how it came about that I have to make breakfast for everyone tomorrow.

If no one dies of food poisoning, I’ll count it as a success.

I’m just going to scramble some eggs, nothing exciting or difficult, but I haven’t cooked anything in like… three years? When I was at home, Dad got the bright idea that everyone should have a day to cook, and we’d eat out on the last day. Mas and Mer are pretty good at it. Mom kinda cheated and reheated leftovers. Maki and I tried the whole “be so absolutely terrible at it that everyone begs us to stop for their health and safety” thing, but it didn’t work. Dad said cooking is an important life skill; something all adults need to do. …Not mentioning that Mom has cooked like three times in my life.

So we learned how to not make food that caused our siblings to threaten us with death. Then Maki joined the Guard, and got barracks food every day, and I met youuuu with your personal chef, and neither of us have cooked a thing since.

Anyhow, if this is my last entry, know that I accidentally killed everyone with my terrible cooking.

  Apprehensive Regards,

  Maeve Zee
