Hey Diary,
We got to Subway tonight, after another very long day. It really should have taken us until tomorrow, but no one wanted to stop. We were all pretty eager to get here.
Tomorrow we’ll get on a ferry to Goldvale, meaning tomorrow night we’ll be back where we started.
There are two ferry options. There’s the boring ferry run by the Traveler’s Guild, which would be free because we’re members. And then there's the fancy touristy ferry, which is not free, but it is fancy.
Maeve thinks we should take the fancy one, because she likes fancy things. Maki thinks we should take the free one, because it’s free. Luke doesn't want to disagree with Maeve but agrees with Maki, and Echo doesn't want to disagree with Maki but is on Maeve’s side.
Which means it was up to me to be the tiebreaker.
We’ll be taking the free option.
Sadly, since we won’t be going to Goldvale on Guild business, we have to leave the wagon and horses here. I’m… not as sad about leaving Trusty and True behind as I was about leaving Peanut. Peanut was a nice, good horse. Trusty and True are brats. Yeah, they did their job, and they did help when bribed, but it was a constant struggle.
I talked to the guild people in Mlem about horses and wagons, and it turns out that if we have our own horses, we won’t have to pay for food or medical. Or, we will, but if we save the receipts, the Guild will reimburse us for it all. With Guild-provided horses, we had to pay for all the food while traveling. And if we register our own, private wagon, we’ll get a bonus!
This book is hosted on another platform. Read the official version and support the author's work.
Currently, the plan is to get a bunch of supplies in Goldvale and take them to Fish, where Luke and his parents will put together a wagon with a bunch of pocket dimensions in it. Like, at least five. And we’ll make comfy benches with padding, and an awning thing in front in case it rains, and a whole bunch of other details. Then, when it’s done, we’ll go back to Goldvale and register it, and continue traveling on to wherever we want to go!
Or we might go up to Dragon’s Pass. That’s the city upriver from Fish. It’s a little further, though. But on the other hand, it always has lots of things that need to be taken from one place to another. So arriving with a wagon that can hold a whole bunch of cargo would get us plenty of work.
I’m excited to go home, but also nervous. I mean, we left without saying goodbye. Which was rude. I don’t know if I’m more scared that Mom won’t ever let me leave again, or if she’ll not care I’m back. If she and Dad are angry, that would be bad, but if they’re indifferent, that would be worse.
A part of me is glad that all the buildings in the world were destroyed. That way I’ll never find out if they gave Wisp my room. If they rebuilt everything exactly the way it was, and gave Wisp the space that used to be where my room was, somehow that’s better.
Well, when she was born, they built a wall through the middle of my room, and gave her half. So really, they’ll probably just turn it into one room again. That won’t be as bad. It’ll just mean I won’t have a place to stay in their house. Which is fine; I have my flying carpet and can sleep anywhere.
I… Yeah.
Speaking of sleep, I need it.
Signing off,
