Hey Diary,
We made it to Tree tonight. So we’ll be back in Fish tomorrow at like noon.
I almost wrote that we’ll be back home tomorrow, but that felt wrong. It’s not home any more. It was home. But it isn't any more.
Tree is pretty rebuilt. All the buildings have roofs and outer walls. The insides aren't all put up yet, but they’re getting there. Seeing this place together makes me feel hopeful about Fish. I’m not scared about going there and finding a big, depressing ruin.
Oh, I talked to Echo about how I was nervous. She said she understands, and that she’s scared to go back, too. But some things are just necessary. We have to talk to people, even if we aren't sure how those conversations will go. If they love us, it’ll be ok. If things go badly, then we can just leave again. We’re adults, after all.
Anyways, we spent today designing our dream wagon. We started with the idea of designing something stupidly expensive and impossible, then realized that, since Luke is the one building it, everything we want is completely possible and not expensive at all.
We’ll start with eight levitation runes instead of the usual six, just for that extra stability. Then we’ll make the top out of a tarp dyed bright green. The front bench will be padded, and the seats will have storage under them for snacks and stuff. Behind the bench is where the pocket dimension doors will be put. Then there’ll be padded benches that can fold down along the inside, for everyone to sit on. The support arches for the top will have hooks in them, and we’ll put a padded, rollable tarp up there for me. When it’s all hooked in, it’ll be like my own private little room.
This story originates from a different website. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.
We talked about adding in more pocket dimensions on the sides, but the sides won't be tall enough. It’d be hard to get in and out of them, meaning stuff might be trapped in there. Instead, the floor of the wagon will be false, and Luke will make four pocket dimensions to go in a thin space between the real floor and the false floor. He’ll put hinges on them, so they can stand up or be laid flat. Then if we need them we have them, but if not we can forget about them.
Luke asked if I wanted my own pocket dimension again. I still don’t. I figured out why, though.
I have charm magic, and I’m a Beastmaster. Since I was twelve, I’ve always been able to sense the life around me. I can close my eyes and feel… Nature. People. Emotions. Minds. I'm not alone in the world.
Pocket dimensions don't have any of that. When I was in Maeve’s dimension room, I only sensed the people also in the room. It felt like all the people and animals in the world had suddenly died, and only us five were still alive.
I'm pretty sure that if I were alone in a pocket dimension, I’d freak out from the silence and solitude. If I got stuck in one, I might go completely insane.
So yeah, I prefer being the designated guard. I’ll have my little comfy space in the roof of the wagon. I’ll fall asleep to the sounds of frogs and raccoons, and wake up to the sounds of birds and… I don't know, cows or whatever’s around.
And speaking of falling asleep, that’s what I should be doing.
Signing off,
