Volume 2 Chapter 81

Following Cridraw’s display of power, the Kraken forces went into formation but they didn’t advance.

The Kraken probably never anticipated Cridraw’s powers. It expected only the orb owners to be powerful, not the orcas who have been historically weaker. I wonder what the Kraken would do next.

With this knowledge, Dhaga only grew more excited that he could summon another orca in less than a day’s time. As long as he got orcas with widely varying abilities, then the Kraken couldn’t possibly come up with any counters fast enough to deal with the new threats. Once the Kraken realized that it couldn’t achieve victory with its fodders, it would have to take action by itself, giving the Leviathan the showdown it needed to finally end this threat. At that stage, he, the nagas and the orcas had done everything they could.

Dhaga, it seems they are too afraid to advance. I’d say victory might be within our grasp!

The naga understood why Cridraw seemed so confident. The orca likely had very few creatures that could challenge him in combat. Given how overwhelming his victory was, there would be a major hit on the Kraken followers’ morale.

I think it’s still too early to talk about victory. Cridraw. Even if we defeat all of Kraken’s soldiers, the Kraken is still far too powerful. I trust the Guardian but I fear for what the ocean will be after their bout.

Before Cridraw could share his thoughts, his sister interrupted the conversation by stating the odd formation. Dhaga and Cridraw looked to see what Cridror was referring to and agreed that this wasn’t a conventional formation. Instead of using a wide formation to better utilize their numbers, the Kraken soldiers were in tight formations several ranks deep while remaining in front of the Kraken. A lot of these soldiers were looking at one another, sharing the same expression as the naga soldiers.

What could they be up to? That type of formation won’t work against us. We can easily encircle it and pick their numbers off bit by bit.

Dhaga tightened his grip on his trident as he watched the horror develop before his eyes. The Kraken opened its mouth wide before it started sucking. Not only was the water getting pulled but all the Kraken soldiers, previously neatly in the path of the current, were swallowed by the Kraken. In a matter of seconds, the Kraken forces were devastated by none other than the Kraken itself. The Kraken had just feasted on the soldiers that fought for it.

Damn you, monster! Are they worth so little to you? No wonder the Guardian cannot allow you to keep living!

A sudden shockwave was suddenly sent their way and Dhaga barely had time to strike at the shockwave, trying his best to weaken it before it made contact with him. After several seconds, he too was sent flying along with countless other nagas. The shockwave wasn’t exactly harmful but it was definitely disorientating for those who were still recovering from the Kraken’s feast earlier. The naga felt himself tumbling several times in the water before he finally got his bearing.

That was just the Kraken shaking one of its tentacles.

Dhaga wasn’t sure how Cridror was able to catch that or even recover so quickly from the shockwave but he found the power of the Kraken to be even more unbelievable. He knew that he wouldn’t be much of help to the Leviathan but the real gap between him and these two god-like creatures was slowly dawning on him. Then, the Leviathan spoke to them all.

Listen, my nagas! You have proven your loyalty by facing an overwhelming army that you should have no business winning against. You have done your part and now it’s my turn. You must all fall back to the capital where a defensive barrier is placed. No matter what, do not leave the capital. The battle you are about to see will be at a scale none of you can hope to participate in. I wish to thank all of you for what you have done to ensure the prosperity of the ocean not controlled by the Kraken. Go now as I prepare for what will be my final battle. Go!

The naga soldiers were the first to follow through with the orders as they all swam towards the capital. Dhaga could make out the other orb owners who, after a pause, also followed the Leviathan’s orders. Eventually, it was just Dhaga and the four orcas left at the frontlines.

  What’s on your mind?

The naga thought about Cridror's question for a full minute before shaking his head.

I don’t know why but I might have grown attached to fighting here. It feels like I’m leaving too soon to retire back in the capital, especially after I unlocked the ability to summon powerful orcas.

He meant it when he said retire. After summoning Cridraw, he could feel the timer ticking down. Prior to that, he felt something close to invincibility. Now, he had become a mortal once again with limited time on his hands. Dhaga originally thought that he would spend his last bit of time fighting the Kraken soldiers until he died doing what he must. The Kraken had sufficient soldiers to extend the battle that long if necessary. The premature end to the battle left a bit of a sour taste in his mouth but he could do nothing to change it. Even with summoning more orcas, he couldn’t see how they could make a difference in the battle between the Leviathan and the Kraken.

Something is wrong! Is the capital under attack?

Dhaga couldn’t believe his eyes as the retreating naga soldiers were engaged with soldiers of an unknown party. As he got closer, he could make out the Kraken soldiers who were definitely winning against the nagas. Not only did the Kraken soldiers possess numerical advantage but they were in a proper formation while the naga soldiers were in a much looser formation during the withdraw.

Did the Kraken planned all of that? Did it teleport them to our capital so they can finally destroy all of the nagas?
