Chapter 222 Part C3
Mallory point of view
"Can we go eat some more? I need a drink... the red kind. I'm thirsty," Mallory told Shun. Her esteemed, super handsome master was standing nearby her looking at some data in his status screen system. The two of them were in the inn room where they'd been staying.
"Boss? Did you hear me?" she asked.
"Yes yes. We'll do that. But what do you think of all the security going around this inn?" Shun asked.
By now both Asakura and Sunghee were asleep on the bed, and comatose.
"The security? Well there's more than normal," Mallory frowned.
"So something is up right? Would you agree?" Shun asked.
"Yes. Very much so. You should be suspicious. But then I'd also tell you to always be suspicious even when there's nothing to be suspicious of. That's how you stay alive."
"So something happened here. Not just our fight in the dream state pocket realm. Something else. And you know we just fought Nero. He's probably involved somehow. He's too dangerous not to be part of this. And its almost like they are searching for something. What do you think?" Shun thought aloud. He's now pacing the floor.
"You think he did something here?" Mallory asked.
She was almost positive Nero had done something. It made the most sense. Plus, him being an eldar incubus meant that Nero probably couldn't keep his hands off women. And he'd probably ... taken some of them. The inn had some of the best looking people at it also. Some of them adventurers, and others girls serving adventurers. Its where an Incubi would get magnetized too naturally.
"Yes. Its almost a given, which means I'll need to de-summon you soon when they search the rooms one by one. They'll interview everyone also," Shun thought.
"Yes that's what I'd do. If it was me doing the search, I'd also magically scan everyone and detect lie spells up the whole bit. Scan the shit out of everyone 3 times over. Nobody leaves without confirming anyone's story. And check alibis. At least that's what I'd do if I were the fae intelligence agents. Its the only way to be sure. Right now they also have to get someone to protect their economy from tanking also. If they don't get this guy, which was probably Nero somehow, then the adventurers who were here will feel demoralized and go to some other town. That they want to contain almost more than they want to catch the right person in comparison see," Mallory said.
"So. We probably have only a few minutes at best before they reach this floor. Luckily this is a big building with many occupants..." Shun breathed out still pacing.
"Help me pn Mallory. We need something to show to prove if they colr us that we're on their side. Is it possible they'd suspect me? Or you?" he looked at me.
Being the bad ass vampire girl that I am, I had already been thinking this way for a few minutes.
"Its a given as a vampire girl that I'd be caught pretty fast if Shun doesn't de-summon me. I look too much like a vampire. I'd not be able to hide like he would. They'd have to know almost instantly what I am. I won't be able to hide. So you can de-summon me and then put Sylvia up. She's good eye candy too. I wouldn't have wanted them to see her but them seeing her at least gives them an idea you are a somebody important. Plus, you know a certain percentage of foxkin girls have shapeshifting abilities?" I asked him.
"Is that true?" he raised an eyebrow.
"Because they'll have detect lie spells up you want to neither use absolutes in either direction. Don't really deny or agree with them on anything. Keep it vague. Intentionally give partial answers but don't lie so that when they do ask something that you are tempted to lie about it will be sort of inconclusive. That's how people beat lie detection spells," I told him.
"How the hell did you know that?" He wondered.
"Cecilia taught me that. I didn't tell anyone. Until now," I growled at him pyfully.
"Ooh you really are a bad girl," he winked at me.
"OK. So when they come here they could detect dark race mana, but with the fox-kin here they'll confirm her instead. And then they'll remember many foxkin are shapechangers see. You got that end covered."
"OK. That covers that. And if worst comes to worst I can show them Nero's head that we tried to burn," he frowned.
THat part scared the shit out of me.
...When the scarred fae tried to kill Nero...
We didn't anticipate that his head wouldn't completely burn. And we aren't sure why. Its nothing good though. If some bad ass super vilin is unkilble, that would scare anyone. The head of hero, which is in Shun's inventory slot system, both burned and didn't burn. It turned bck sure. But it also wouldn't completely burn. And it wouldn't reduce itself to ashes and 'evaporate' or whatever those other Isekai adventurers call it when stuff normally should.
"The head will be a good cover. If they colr you and smell something wrong on you all you have to do is use the head. And its partly true also. But I fear what would happen if the wrong people got hold of that head. They might try to use it as a magic artifact somehow. So don't let them actually take it," I told him.
"Wow. I didn't even think of that. That's really good thinking that you thought of that. Hmm... OK. We need some fires of Mt Doom or something for this head... too bad they don't have that here too," he muttered under his breathe.
"Uh sorry boss. I didn't get that part?" I asked.
"Uh its nothing. Just an old story from my world. But it won't make sense to expin it and it would take forever."
"If we had more time I'd like to hear it. Well you have a way to cover yourself now. Just don't let them check your bags. Let them see the head and Sylvie. But try to get that Ness girl to talk to them for you. That might help. You don't want to stand out too much as a hero type either. If you do you can get problems in another way," I told him.
"OK."
My ears pricked up. I could hear boots coming up the stairs down the hall.
THe fae intelligence guys were here.
"Now Shun..." I said urgently.
He de-summoned Sunghee and Asakura.
In my pce Shun summoned Sylvie, though she doesn't like how low the inn ceiling heights are in the rooms. She has to hunch over and that makes people try to look down her shirt. She doesn't mind as long as its only Shun.
Shun was now alone except for Sylvie, who didn't know what was going on. She had a telepathic skill though for getting up to speed.
Within seconds the door knocked.
"Here we go," Shun breathed out a sigh.
"Hello. What's this about?" Shun said.
"Sir. We'd like you to come with us. We're not asking nicely. And we have backup within sight of us. Please don't reach for any weapons or make sudden movements," the 2 fae agents said sounding very monotone and dull.
Then both did sort of a double take seeing the fox-kin girl standing behind him. Both for how hot she was and because such beings were ultra super rare and expensive to find.
"Sure. Do you mind if I lock my room door? Also don't let anyone mess with Sylvie. She doesn't like it. Your on your honor to protect her from too much attention," Shun told them as they both came out of the room.
Shun tried to not be nervous. But he was. Sylvie could feel it too. But she was also curious about the little elf like beings, even though they cimed to not be elves.
