Chapter 138

Lawrence walks through the halls of the auction house and at some point stops and bites his nails.

‘That masochistic fox! Why did she look happy instead of offended?’

Now he can understand why everyone has mixed opinions about her. His intention with that move was to use their businesses as a defensive wall, since she needs his refiner, she wouldn't say anything when Lawrence didn't make her look bad.

But not only did she not get angry, but she looked happy? Why?!

He sighs and continues walking, but along the way he feels a familiar presence. He wants to avoid it if possible, but the other party doesn't give him a chance.

At the next corner, he encounters a man he will hardly forget.

  “Misty Plain.”

The guard of the Violet Twilight auction house who is not only a user of dark magic but almost killed Lawrence the first time he entered the auction house.

At Lawrence's glance, he subtly frowns and then continues walking, leaving him behind. His intention is quite clear, he doesn't want trouble. Lawrence is surprised by this attitude and plans to do the same, but at some point, his steps stop.

  "Misty Plain, wait."

Lawrence takes a pill from his storage ring and shows it to him. "This medicinal pill you gave me to heal my wounds... Where did you get it?"

It's a pill whose efficacy reaches up to level 700. If he hasn't used it yet, it means that Coldness Divine has done a good job with her regressions... or that simply the situation couldn't be solved with just one pill. Before, he only thought it was valuable, now he understands it's not as simple as it seems.

Misty Plain hesitates whether to answer or not, and Lawrence doesn't lose sight of that expression.

"Knowing it, I'm willing to forget our grudges."

If it had been level 699, Lawrence wouldn't have stopped to ask, because this must be a limited pill recipe, with no future, but that's not the case. The fertility pill is the best example of a recipe with immense potential for improvement, although some factors favored its improvement to level 800, normally it would be level 700.

Just the level of this pill.

Misty Plain looks him in the eyes and replies with a sigh, "I got it by coincidence, but... there are some clues that can lead me to its origin. When I find it, I'll let you know."

Lawrence nods and turns around without saying goodbye. That man might be a recognized ranker in the Heavenly Path Kingdom, one for whom the auction house spent a considerable amount of resources to recruit, but he is still just a hunter. Between him and a intermediary, the choice is simple.

After leaving the auction house, he soon finds a carriage to take him away from this place. In the back seat, he carefully assesses the environment through his senses, but it's impossible to tell if someone is following him. Lawrence frowns, have they hired experts to follow him this time?

About 10 minutes later he gets out of the carriage and walks casually through a passage, until he stops in front of a woman. Serene Will.

She narrows her eyes and is surprised by the unexpected situation. "No one is following you."

Lawrence opens his mouth for a moment and then sighs. "Sky Petal was right, eh."

If they learned anything from the previous chase, it's that no one was after Lawrence's life. Today the tide stops, no one intends to offend him.

"That's good, we no longer have to pretend."

He creates a Dimensional Rift, rendering the noble character that Serene Will is currently playing useless. Originally she would act as a hunter with the ability to teleport, but it seems that will no longer be necessary.

When Lawrence walks through the Dimensional Rift, Serene Will looks at herself and smiles subtly. Who knows when the next time she'll see Lawrence acting like a gentleman, the fun of this character ended too quickly.

  +++

35.78 million gold was raised after his visit to the Violet Twilight auction house, it might seem like an endless sum, but it is far from it. After returning to his personal dimension, Lawrence hands most of the money over to Stoic Compass, keeping only a few tens of thousands for himself.

This project is a bottomless pit. All the money he gives to Stoic Compass comes back in the form of building materials. Although the dwarf elf boasts about the great amount of money he's saving him, Lawrence can only grit his teeth and pretend everything is fine. His only joy among misfortune is that the buildings are acquiring a solemn aura, when the project concludes, he will remember these events as nothing more than a minor sorrow.

Days pass and then one day Lawrence notices a change in his house located in the capital Heaven’s Fortress. He and his wives investigate the environment, but there's only one item out of place.

  “A letter from Ephemeral Principle.”

Once Serene Will nods, Lawrence fearlessly opens the letter and reads its content. As he progresses, his wives notice changes in his gaze.

After finishing, Lawrence relays the most worrying words.

"Be careful with Eminent Greed, she is looking for something, those who have caught her attention have not had a good ending."

Coldness Divine snatches the letter from his hands and reads its content at great speed, her expression changing similarly to Lawrence's.

As she hands the letter to Sky Petal, she says: "He doesn't intend to create an enmity between you and her, leave it to your discretion how to proceed. Given what happened at the auction house, the words of Ephemeral Principle are not without basis."

Why did that woman ask to meet with him twice when easily her subordinates could have handled the arrangements? This goes beyond a fixation on his refiner Bearer of Light, but towards he himself, towards Lawrence.

If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

"I have nothing that could attract her, do I look like someone with an extraordinary destiny?"

"That question you should ask her, she's the one plotting against you, Lawrence." Serene Will stops her husband from continuing and finishes reading the letter with Sky Petal. "This man has a favorable opinion of you, he praised the sword we created from the ingot he himself gave you. I agree with Coldness Divine, he's warning you because he doesn't want you to disappear like the others."

Ephemeral Principle noticed the sword on Lawrence's waist and immediately understood its origin, perhaps initially he was only interested in his refiner, but now there's an added factor... his contacts.

Sky Petal understands this and says: "It's not that easy to acquire an ingot of divine purity and find a weapon refiner willing to make you a sword. Much less establish a connection with an underworld informant like Sacrilegious Pagan. Anyone without my ability to speak with plants wouldn't be able to establish contact with this kind of character without paying a high price."

Sky Petal's intention is clear, Ephemeral Principle is acting in good faith. He doesn't want to lose a partner when he shows potential.

Lawrence gets angry, his fury not directed at that lion man nor towards his wives.

"That damn fox. If she thinks I'm an easy target, she's wrong. Once we deal with Prescribed Dream's matters, she'll be next."

From the beginning, he never had a good impression of that woman, and today his suspicions are confirmed. Whatever she is planning, he won't allow her to succeed.

"But first, we need to focus on Prescribed Dream, the day is approaching."

Everyone agrees with Lawrence. The threat of Eminent Greed can wait, where their attention must be focused right now is on the Unquenchable Fire Brothel. They are not naive enough to think Lawrence will be spared a third time. Even if he had no involvement in the previous disappearances, the mere fact that he has spoken with three of them is enough for them to want to torture him and eliminate all suspicion before killing him.

Of course, they will do everything possible to keep him as a dao protector in the brothel, only that way he will be able to open a back door when the final day of the Unquenchable Fire Brothel comes. Even when today seems implausible, they will make it happen.

Inside the sub-space of the Unquenchable Fire Brothel and hundreds of meters underground, four people enter through a stationary door.

"Find a suitable place to hide a stationary door in case of the worst scenario. I'll be waiting with Coldness Divine."

As they emerge to the surface, Serene Will and Sky Petal disappear without a trace, leaving only Lawrence and Coldness Divine in the place.

After ensuring there is no danger around, she looks at Lawrence and says: "This is the first time you do something like this. For someone who plans to succeed, you're being very defeatist."

"The number three holds significant meaning regardless of culture, I won't sleep peacefully unless we do something like this. Plus..."

He directs his gaze toward the boundaries of the sub-space, specifically toward the hidden barrier that protects this place. "If the worst happens, that barrier will be the biggest obstacle to re-enter this sub-space. I'm not sure if my stationary door will still work once they add me to their blacklist."

So far, he has treated this sub-space as his own backyard, but no one knows what will happen once Lawrence is recognized as an enemy.

The worst case scenario is that they can never enter the Unquenchable Fire Brothel again.

Coldness Divine sees the seriousness on his face and decides to ask a question she's been holding for a long time. "This sub-space... Is it different from ours?"

What is the origin of sub-spaces? How does it differ from a personal dimension?

"It's different." He doesn't hesitate to nod, "This place hasn't lost its contact with the world, it shares the same climate as Agares City. In contrast, my personal dimension is removed from the world, unaffected by changes in the Inferior Plane and the Divine Plane."

  This brings up another question.

"Can't they create another access that doesn't come from Agares City?"

Lawrence thinks for a few seconds before responding. "Maybe they can, but not with the same freedom as my stationary doors. When you look at it that way, my personal dimension is unlimited in comparison, but..."

He smiles ironically, "Maybe it's due to my lower level. Ask me again once I reach level 700, by then, my answer might be different."

Silence lingers for long minutes until Coldness Divine remembers something.

"Not everyone will be able to update the magic formation like she did, even when her future is limited, it would be useful for what you're building, Lawrence."

"It would bring many problems to do so. If she leaves, the security of this place would increase."

Coldness Divine snorts proudly. If she mentioned it, it's because she's already thought of something. "It won't happen, not if we generate chaos."

"What do you have in mind?"

"It's just an assumption in case of the worst scenario, are you that sure you'll lose?"

  "Tsk."

Some time later, Serene Will and Sky Petal return with a perfect place to hide a stationary door. Once Lawrence hides it hundreds of meters underground, they all head to the next place in their preparation.

In three days, the plan will take place, nothing can be overlooked.
