Nature is such a calming and soul soothing place, with many a person- human or otherwise- often choosing it as a way to escape one's daily struggles. It was less so if the same nature was less like a nice, well maintained park of someone's personal garden and more like some untamed, unexplored and all around extremely hostile amazonian jungle. Case in point, as soon as Jack had gotten out of that dreary and extremely dull place the eye of decay was buried in, he had come upon what could only be described as a rainforest on steroids- both size and personality vise. Hundreds of meters tall trees, with the undergrowth filled to the brim with all manner of vines and other less colossal plant life, accompanied by a sea, neigh, an ocean of ants the size of a horse or two, all too willing and eager to check if the seemingly squishy creature that had entered their territory was tasty and whatnot.
Obviously, Jack was not the least bit inclined to allow the buggers to succeed, thus a small lake of whatever it was that the blood of ants was named as began to fil the ground, almost greedily absorbed back in the earth to nurture the further development of the place- the circle of natural life coming full circle. Jack could not complain too much- there was no point, really- once he realised that no matter where in the forest, the ants would come forth to meet him, only to eventually be accompanied by some fifty to hundred times larger anteater who decided to utilise the small ant caller as a convenient table at which to feast. The size did not equate to a smarter creatures overall as it turned out, as the ants seemingly disregarded the fact that there was a larger, much larger in fact, predator using their desire to chomp on Jack to munch on them instead. Jack himself could not come to a decision regarding the events taking place. Was he supposed to be angry that he was exploited in such a way, angry at the fact that the mountain of a creature was eating away and blocking the path for his free experience to arrive, or should he be happy that he has some company, as limited in intelligence as it was, that did not try and eat him the moment it layed its small- for its frame- beady eyes on Jack. In the end, Jack decided that with at least that one, he would go live and let live. The ants, around level thirty each, provided him with plenty of experience for his current state as his mercenary sword of destruction was cleaving through exoskeleton after exoskeleton like hot knife through butter, made even more deadlier by the boost Jack had received to his destructive potential through the absorption of the eye of decay. All in all, the near constant murdering action he was partaking in did remain him a great deal of the first play through he had done in this world- relatively speaking, since the abyss was not technically a part of this realm, but an entirely separate dimensional space on its own, packed with unique and sometimes quite distracting or even disorienting laws and application of physics.
His blade sang as it sliced through exoskeleton after exoskeleton as Jack moved forward, his movement precise yet seemingly savage and brutally efficient, all while conserving as much energy- both physical and mental- as possible, all to last longer. Jack knew damn well how to ration his own personal resources, limiting any waste to ensure prolonged ability to function to as close to hundred percent as possible. He did have more than a decade of experience on the matter after all. Body after ants body fell, their near countless large frames at least slowing down the rest of their kinds a tiny bit, giving Jack a small, yet still there, advantage in dealing with the rest of them, not getting too bogged down as a result. The fact that he was the smaller party in terms of size also worked to his benefit, as there was only so many ants that could even try and surround him to get at his limbs or body, furthermore limiting the offensive in his favour.
"You know." Jack half laughed another two days later, having barely moved away from the place his 'fateful' encounter with the ants started, growing slightly annoyed at the slow pace he was forced to keep as he tried to move away from the place entirely in his search of civilization "I do believe it would be most beneficial to both our sides if you could just get lost!" he joked as his head and his upper body suddenly bent to one side, avoiding a claw like swipe as a blur of a movement streaked by, colliding with earth a few dozen meters behind him and creating an explosion of dust in the process, enveloping the entirety of the immediate battlefield in a thick cloud of dust within seconds.
'Something new at least.' He hummed to himself as his body immediately straightened and continued on as if nothing had changed, his sword hand proceeding uninterrupted in its own tasks, still controlling the sword with deadly precision and finding body after body of a healthy ant to dissect and slice apart. He did feel a slight pang of pain though as he still proceeded with his tasks, how could he not? The number of ants he had killed in the past few days was spectacular, but there was only so much he could actually collect of said slain bodies, their fate to either be picked clean by other ants or some other scavenger soon enough. Jack knew that at the very least he was not the one to benefit from his own kills, at least most of them.
"I said, GET FUCKING LOST!" he growled as his free hand shot up as his body leaned to the other side and forward, his hand serving as some sort of a vice grip to lock something down, followed by quite the momentum and kinetic energy colliding with said outstretched hand as it closed around something and janked it hard. Something that was not there a mere moment ago. A sharp, tearing sound spread across the 'dust storm' filled clearing, momentary stopping the advance of the rest of the ants- their eyes never having been the most important sensory organ they moved in thanks to.
A shrill, desperate shriek reverberated across the battlefield, stopping the damn near never ending battle that had lasted for a couple of days for the first time since it started. Even the ants in close combat to Jack stopped as well, not a single ant moving further ahead towards Jack for the time being, allowing him enough time to focus his spiritual perception on the new arrival instead. The ants did not rely on their sight to fight Jack, sure, but neither did he, relying on his spirit to stay ahead of all possible surprises the ants could eventually come up with, or so Jack did no doubt believe in his mind. He had been right so far as well.
The uncharacteristic reaction, namely one of recognition towards pain and further more succumbing to it was a new discovery, as far as Jack's battle with the ants was concerned. So far, not a single ant had reacted to any damage they took, so long their core functions were not interrupted, or they were outright killed. The difference clearly meant a monumental change in the current state of battle. Whatever had come out to attack Jack was clearly a higher level being- though not all that much stronger in combat scenario as far as Jack was concerned- possibly in charge of some vital operations of their hive or whatever else they had been coming from. That last question too was one Jack was still lacking an answer to. He might get it, eventually. He reasoned, damn well expecting the ants to still keep coming at him for a considerable future.

"Ain't you an ugly one." He mused as he slowly walked towards the new arrival, still shrieking though its voice was slowly dying down in volume. His slow approach did interrupt the shrieking moments later, as the ant leader, as Jack dubbed it in his mind, scrambled to its two feet, with one of his arms clutching the empty socket of the one Jack had just claimed a short moment ago, dropping said claimed arm as he came closer and closer.
"What kind of a monstrosity are you? Humanoid ant, sure, but while there is a slight amount of intelligence in your behaviour, I can also still feel the feral nature all too well. Too skewed in the latter direction to consider you sapient, let alone a demi human of sorts." Jack diagnosed, his movement slow but calm and deliberate. He rubbed his chin in thought, not before wiping the free hand in his pants of course- there was no need to stain his chin with bug blood. Not yet at the very least.
"And why are the rest of them staying back I wonder?" he mused on as he approached "Is it fear of you? Did not think they feel fear. Or could it be some sort of a pheromone that you release to make them stay away?" Jack hummed as he came closer and closer to the ant, his voice inquisitive, yet betraying nothing else in his tone. Not that the humanoid like ant could recognize the difference.
"Meh, let's hope it works for a while longer while you are dead as well." he shrugged at the end, having walked over to the ant, just a meter separating the two, when both sides took action. The seemingly scared ant lunged, its apparent pain and worry discarded like some old and useless trash. The remaining three arms with sharp, knife like nails- prepped and ready to slice through Jack's flesh and bone- reached towards Jack's throat and sides, a choice made on instinct to maximize the potential damage that could be inflicted should lethal be out of reach, only to close in on thin air, touching nothing but empty space where Jack had stood just moments ago.
A slight sound of a crunch could be heard a moment later, followed by a clean slice, with Jack standing at the rear side of the humanoid ant and his sword sliding through its body. The initial touch had created the slight crunch, followed by the slicing sound as the sword slid through the rest of the ants body, separating it in two, followed by another, quicker motion that then split the upper part of the ants body in to smaller pieces still, separating the torso from the head.
"Which part has the scent sack, or whatever it is that keeps them away, I wonder? " he looked at his handiwork, rubbing his chin as he squatted in front of the now three piece corpse. "Guess It is only right to find out." he smirked as he stored the lower body in his spatial storage first, followed by torso and lastly the head of it, leaving only a rather large puddle its bodily fluids lying around, retrieving the head no more than a second later as the ants began moving as soon as it had disappeared.
"But really, what were you?" Jack though out loud as he gazed into the now dead eyes of the bugs head he was holding by its antena, its appraisal too insignificant to explain the whole picture. There was not much Jack could do with 'Ant evolvite' after all. It was clear that it was a rare variant of the species, obviously, but was it a natural occuring phenomena or occuring on extremely rare occasions? Or was that an interference and result of human tampering. The former was him being both lucky and unlucky, while the latter was another problem that he might have to deal with eventually as well, especially if he were to be stuck here for a considerable time. No one who made shit like this was out to improve the world. Not in a way that most people would like to at the very least. It had to be noted that unlike the horse sized regular ants, ones that now scurried away the second Jack started to move, the dismembered evolvite head at his side like some sort of a trophee, this special creature was just slightly larger than Jack himself, with a set of its own wings as well- a stark difference between it and the rest of the ordinary kind.
With the constant annoyance of never ending stream of ants taken care of, Jack could nod in satisfaction at the two levels he had earned through his non stop murder fest of level thirty ant horde lasting two days, bringing himself to level twenty seven. If there was any reason to be sad, it was the fact his next true improvement in regards to power gain would come at level fifty in the form of another class upgrade, accompanied by the stats he would get for leveling after that.
"Phew." Jack spat out a mouthful of foul tasting bile, for he could not find a better comparison for what he had just put in his mouth. "Grurghghh" he retched repeatedly, regretting his own decision to find out just how bad the ants meat tasted. He had known from a quick analysis that it was supposedly edible, and most likely gross as hell, but he had never been prepared for what he had just tasted. As repulsed as he was however, he could not begrudge himself for the attempt itself. It was one of his side projects to create the perfect taste heaven for himself and his people and as such, he had to understand what was recognized in his brain and senses both in regard to atomic taste composition as well as actual taste itself as both incredibly tasty and repulsive.
"Fuck." he groaned, realizing he would repeat the same action with other, equally repulsive- yet entirely safe for human consumption- 'ingredients' of different extremes to map out his taste map. And he knew he would do it unapologetically too. "Shit. The things I do for the best taste." he shuddered, the foul taste still on his mouth.
"You know what Kevin?" Jack hummed as he purged his mouth with a couple of bites of a very sweet tasting fruit he had picked up just recently, having deemed it a good snack in regards to its taste, his eyes trailing down towards the dead at his side. "I don't even feel sorry for tasting you. Not really. You can't blame me though, can you? You tried the exact same thing with me, did you not?" he laughed as he patted the head, a single- slightly paler than the rest of the exoskeleton- coloured gem like object reflecting the light that sometimes was reflected from it was momentarily obstructed, then revealed to Jacks perception once again, earning his focus.
"So that's what it is. A mana signal of a certain frequency that's keeping them away. Should have expected that." he hummed, realizing the truth of the repelling fields nature. "Works for me." he shrugged and continued onwards. Now, kept 'hidden' by the aura of ant evolvites head, he could go on his way, searching for population of sapient beings all while enjoying the wild and untamed nature of the world before him.
As he moved further and further away from the place he was dropped in this foreign land, he kept his mind busy with all sorts of calculations, not the least of which was the state of the star filled sky over his head as soon as night arrived. He could spend time on it now that he was not busy with non stop bug extermination efforts. The experience was good though, as well as a few other benefits like the number of different, never before seen by Jack fruits and berries. The latter did tip him off to a rather weird, though not all that impossible of a scenario.
"Don't tell me I am on a different continent all together?"
