The smell of pizza wafted through the room as Ganke turned on his Playstation. Miles watched his friend grab the controllers before tossing one back onto the bed for him. He leapt down from the ceiling and snagged it, then took a seat next to Ganke. The boy glanced to him, then looked up to the ceiling.
“You’re gonna get footprints all over my ceiling”
“No way. My socks are clean”
“And the ceiling isn’t. Look you can already see them in the dust”
Miles glanced up, squinting as he tried to make out the footprints. Ganke was right.
Whoops
“Nah, it’s fine” he mumbled unconvincingly.
“Whatever. Just try not to do it too much. My mom will definitely notice”
The two went back to looking at the TV as the Play-station finished turning on before Miles turned to Ganke.
“I still can’t believe what happened today”
“I know. You’ve said it like fifty times already”
“Yeah but it’s so-”
“Cool? Amazing? Spectacular?”
“It was!”
“I don’t know how you’ve done it, but you’re going to make me bored of hearing about superhero fights”
“Oh come on. It’s totally awesome. I was fighting massive bug spider things in the middle of Manhattan with the Spider-crew and I took part in a city level threat defence or whatever. And we won!”
“And you passed out”
“Details, details. I took part and did something cool” he said grinning. “I think that’s all that really counts”
“…right. Let me know when they start handing out participation trophies for superhero sidekicks”
“I’m not a sidekick, I’m-”
“Part of the team. I know, I know you, said it like fifty times already”
The two went silent, before Miles looked down at his hands, clenching and unclenching them.
“I still can’t believe it” he whispered.
“Oh god”
“I mean we were training then the portal opened up then I was hopping around fighting massive monsters, and then everything was happening, and then nothing cause I was unconscious. And then the builder guy turned on us and there was the huge fight, and he grew into a massive mound of dirt and rock and-”

“I saw it on the TV man”
“I know, I know but… ah! I can’t believe I was unconscious throughout the whole thing!”
“Quit shouting, my mom’s gonna hear you”
“Right, sorry, sorry” Miles said, quickly sitting down. The two best friends sat in silence a moment, before Miles spoke again, in a hushed whisper this time.
“The whole thing was amazing. Scary but amazing. Until I passed out that was”
“What even happened there?”
“I thought you said you saw it on the news?”
“I saw the other fight on the news, but the first thing wasn’t on anything. I mean I saw some videos online, but none of you”
“Aw man” Miles mumbled. “I was so cool. I was leaping around electrocuting everything. I thought there'd be videos online of me”
“Tough luck”
“Hey”
“What? It’s not my fault your not newsworthy”
Miles chuckled to himself, then looked down at his hands, before a crackle of electricity shot through them.
“Maybe don’t do that next to the Playstation”
“Sorry, sorry, I can just… feel it now you know?”
“No I don’t”
“It’s like there’s a ton of electrical energy in my hands just waiting to be released”
“Well don’t release it anywhere near me”
“I can fire lightning from my finger tips" Miles whispered, his grin widening. "I can fire lightning from my finger tips!”
“My mom’s gonna come upstairs at this rate”
Miles leapt of the ground suddenly, giddy with excitement. He kicked a pillow into the wall and flexed his muscles in a pose that almost wasn't embarrassing.
“I can lift cars!”
“If she sees the state my room’s in I’m getting grounded y’know?”
“I can stick to walls!” Miles said, jumping up onto the ceiling.
“I said don’t walk on the walls”
“I can sense everything with my eyes closed!”
“Can you sense my mom coming up the stairs?”
“I can even turn into half man half ball of electricity! Like a human fly swatter!”
“I… ok I bet that’s awesome”
“Yeah” Miles said, before landing back down on the floor, still grinning.
The two best friends were silent for a moment, before Ganke finally let his pout show, releasing a sigh.
“Man I’m so jealous”
“Really?” Miles said looking to him.
“Oh, my best friend gets superpowers and I’m still just a regular guy. No, no, I'm not jealous at all. It’d be totally normal to not be jealous”
“Uh well… sorry”
“Don’t apologise” Ganke said frowning.
“Uh… well….”
“It’s fine man. You’ve got nothing to worry about, we’re still best friends. I’ll be jealous and supportive” Ganke said, with an exaggerated sniffle. Miles let out a laugh, then looked down to the floor, thinking his friend’s words over.
“Don’t be jealous man. Sure, I’ve got powers, but you’re totally the best wingman ever”
“Really?” Ganke said, turning to him
“Yeah. The night I met with Spider-Man. I don’t think I would’ve even gone out if you hadn’t convinced me it’d be totally awesome”
“Well, you still did all the work”
“Yeah, but I only had the confidence to go out and do all that stuff cause you were on the phone with me”
“Seriously?”
“Yeah, on my own I would’ve chickened out, and then I never would've met any of the Spider family” he said. He smiled to himself slightly. “I might never have become a Spider-Man myself”
“You’re only Spider-Boy at best right now”
“Hey!”
“Just saying“ Ganke laughed. Miles laughed too then looked to his friend.
“I’ll try to introduce them to you one day”
“W-what?”
“I mean, you helped make my costume and pointed me in the right direction. It's the least I could do”
“That’s... thanks”
“Hey, maybe you could even make stuff for the team one day”
“I… wow” Ganke said. “Thanks man. Seriously. I feel bad for ever saying I felt jealous”
“It’s fine. Plus it’ll be more fun with you”
“Really?”
Miles grinned, turning back towards the TV as 2K finally loaded.
“Yeah. I feel like things are about to get a whole lot more fun”
