Chapter 34: Ms. Wynter’s Help

As he wandered through the maze of bookshelves, Fenix carefully avoided the occasional stray tome that leaned precariously against the others. He marveled at the endless variety of books surrounding him, wondering about the kind of cookbooks he might find here.

He could imagine himself browsing through them, discovering all sorts of recipes he had never heard of before, both real and fictional. And knowing that there were even bigger libraries out there in the world of Haven Online, potentially holding even more recipes, blew his mind.

Running his fingers over the spines of the books, he couldn't help but imagine himself leisurely traveling to all the different libraries in this world, and learning all sorts of new recipes. But before he could indulge in such a dream, he needed to complete his revenge.

Lost in thought, he continued his search for the woman librarian. Despite getting lost a few times, he eventually found her standing on a step dder nestled among the shelves.

She was a graceful beauty, a half-deer from the Beastmen race, with delicate deer-like ears and a tail. Her long hair, as white as snow, cascaded down her shoulders. Her leaf-green eyes shone with intelligence, while her pink lips were pursed in concentration as she put some books away.

Fenix cleared his throat to get her attention, but the woman didn't seem to notice. Deciding to try again, Fenix spoke in a loud, clear voice.

  "Excuse me, Miss," he said.

The sound of his voice must have startled her because the book she was holding slipped through her hands and she almost fell off the step dder she was on. Bracing herself against the shelf, she took a calming breath before looking at him.

"Oh my, I didn't see you there. You gave me quite a fright," she said breathlessly. "Could you please hand me that book I dropped?"

Fenix happily retrieved the book and handed it to her. "Here you go, ma'am."

She chuckled, shaking her head. "Oh no, dear. I may be getting on in years, but I'm not old enough to be called ma'am just yet. Folks around here call me Ms. Wynter since I was born in winter."

“Okay then, Ms. Wynter,” Fenix responded.

“So, what can I do for you, young man?” She asked curiously.

“Well, it's about Shilvak.” Fenix noticed Ms. Wynter's smile faded as she gave him a complex expression. “I believe you may have some information about him.”

Ms. Wynter put her book down and her face became serious. “Before I say anything, may I ask why you are interested in him?"

“I want to become a combat potion maker, just like him,” Fenix answered.

“And you think you have the ability and dedication required for such a role?” She questioned while studying him skeptically.

Fenix didn't appreciate the doubt he sensed in her gaze, so he asserted with unwavering confidence, “Yes, I do.”

[System: A quest has been triggered. Would you like to proceed?]

As soon as Fenix saw the notification, he couldn’t hold back his smile. ‘I knew I was on the right track,’ he thought as he clicked yes.

Once he did, Ms. Wynter got down from the step dder and walked toward him, stopping a breath away. She gazed at him with penetrating eyes, as if checking for something.

It reminded Fenix of the way Melvin looked at him when he first expressed his desire to become an Artisan.

“I see you are sincere in your desire to be a combat potion maker," The woman said, gesturing for him to follow her.

Fenix fell into step behind her as she led him to a seating area tucked behind an alcove. Instead of traditional chairs and tables, there were two plush chaise chairs separated by a small gss table. The woman, named Wynter, settled into one chair and motioned for Fenix to do the same.

"When I was young, I also wanted to be a combat potion maker," she began, her voice holding a hint of nostalgia. "Shilvak was my hero, you see. He saved countless lives during the Great Monster War. Not only with his healing potions but also with his combat ones. I wanted to be just like him. But then he disappeared without a trace."

Fenix couldn't help but become intrigued. "Did you ever find out what happened to him?"

"I had my suspicions," Wynter replied sadly, "but I could never be sure."

"That must have been frustrating," Fenix sympathized.

Wynter's face lit up with a reminiscent smile. "I remember being overjoyed when I discovered that Shilvak left behind a manuscript detailing all of his adventures and how he created his potions. But then something happened...his apprentice destroyed most of the copies and hid the original."

"That's awful. Why would he do that?" Fenix asked, baffled.

"He didn't want just anyone to have access to something that took so much dedication to learn. So he divided the book into two parts and hid them in different locations around the world. After years of research, I discovered that one of the halves was hidden near Bellport. I had pnned on searching for it myself, but now I realize I am too old. But looking at you, I believe you have the potential to find it. All I ask is that, once you do, you allow me to read it."

“Of course, I will. It’s the least I could do.” Fenix replied sincerely.
