Washabanga

Lucent sent off Olivia to get the bombs from Lester and kept the crying baby rabbits right next to him. He thought for a while about who would be his first creatures to use to attack the good creatures. He knew they would be the first ones to experience Nogdorf’s attacks and likely would not return. If there were survivors, they would help him understand what all of the rest of the dark creatures could expect to encounter. “Ah ha. The wolves.” With that, Lucent took off to find the wolves. As he ran, he thought of how he would talk the wolves back into being on his side.

Lester had dried out the basil and now he was grinding it to a powder with his mortar and pestle. He was pretty excited about this new spell. Nogdorf had asked him to prepare chili peppers for the next spell. It was no time to rest on his laurels. He had a few of his helpers gathering the chili peppers for this very reason. He was thinking about these two spells, when Olivia hopped up. She was trying to act nonchalant. Lester was concentrating on the spells, when Olivia told him she needed ten fist sized bombs for her part in the attack. He said, “Ok, let me get the spell from Nogdorf.”

He got the spell. Nogdorf was so busy, he didn’t question Lester about it. Lester went back to Olivia, having gathered the supplies he needed for the bombs and was eager to make them and get Olivia on her way so he could concentrate on his important spells. That spell actually went quickly and Olivia was on her way back to Lucent.

It was time for Lester to activate the basilisk breath spell, so it would be ready for the attackers. He put the powdered basil into a bread bag and set it on the ground in front of him. Lester held his hands up like he was going to conduct an orchestra. He chanted, “flesh to cement, flesh to cement.” Then, continuing to hold his hands up, he walked around the bag three times, then stopped and shouted, “Basilisk Breath!” The spell completed, he put a rubber band around the top of the bag and fastened it to his belt.

The chili peppers were piled up almost six feet high. Lester went home and got a ladder. He leaned it up against the pile of peppers, to be able to access the top of the pile and then climbed the ladder. Not having anything solid to hold it up, the ladder fell over, Lester fell over and the pile was flattened. Lester had the breath knocked out of him, so it took a minute before he got up. He was determined to try again, just not up on the ladder. This was his most embarrassing spell to date. Lester started dancing the twist, all around the pile of chili peppers. He started singing, “Chili Pepper Frenzy, chili pepper frenzy, washabanga, washabanga, washabanga, interuptum, accomoditis.” Now, they were ready to go.

Lucent walked into the wolves’ campsite and sought out Juniper. “Juniper, I wanted to apologize to you and the other wolves for how the other dark creatures treated you. I hope we can work together.”

Juniper looked at him and said, “I hold you responsible, Lucent.”

Lucent said, calmly, “I thought you might feel that way, so I brought a peace present. I killed a huge buck for you. It is down the hill a quarter mile. You probably don’t want to let it wait too long, or someone else might get it.”

Juniper’s eyes grew wide and she followed Lucent to the kill. As soon as she saw the kill, she said, “You are forgiven and yes, I will help you take down the good creatures.” It was arranged for the wolves to show up the next morning in the foxes’ camp to prepare for the march into the good creatures’ camps. Lucent returned to camp, feeling pretty self-satisfied. He checked on his baby rabbits.” Well, if she was able to pull it off, she should bring the bombs soon. I need to check on my diggers,” Lucent thought.

As the rats reached their marks, they returned to Lucent, one-by-one. Lucent chose ten rats to take the bombs to each of the marked places and set them up. He held the ten detonators and with it, a mighty power. He passed the word to all of the dark creatures to be ready in the early morning to march.

The next morning, Nogdorf was awakened by fingernails scratching down his windowpane. “Mr. Noggy, Mr. Noggy! Wake up. Them’s coming! Putting on pots on heads and funny clothes. Them wolves got sharp knives. Hurry, Mr. Noggy.” Sammy squirrel sounded the alert. Nogdorf was on his feet immediately and asked Sammy Squirrel to go rouse Lester and let him know the seriousness of the situation. Nogdorf grabbed his ram’s horn and sounded the alert to all of the good creatures.
