Letter to Anna (Final Chapter)

Dear Anna Williams and Jessie Williams,

This letter is one of respect and love for your late husband, James Taro Williams. He saved my life and I saved his on a desolate planet in the outer rim of a forgotten corner of the Helios system. I write this out of respect and love for what James was and how much he meant you two.

I know my words will do little to mend the sorrow and anguish of your bereavement to James. I feel how weak and fruitless my words are in writing this out. I apologize if my penmanship in English is not correct. I have translated this out multiple times with help from the Intelligence human officer, Ren. She is aware of this letter, but knows not what is in it. This I leave only for you and your daughter's eyes only.

In this is a copy of a picture of the two of us (James and I) on the planet surviving together. This is how I want to remember your husband. He was a weird and funny human. Always making jokes and running around in the rain like a happy animal. I remember a time he almost got struck by red lightning when attempting to repair the antenna on his ship. He flew backwards from the shock landing on me. He got up and yelled, "LET'S DO THAT AGAIN!"

That's how I remember him.We both laughed heartily at this.

Despite the war and everything surrounding it. Despite the years of pain and misery brought forth from both of our leaders... I am grateful and thankful to say, James was my friend. My only friend. He was gentle in friendship as he was fierce in battle.

I wanted you two to know this of James. He would've made a great father. He reminded me of my own. Always full of life and curiosity. Always wanting to explore. James showed me it was okay to laugh and cry. I showed him it was okay to remain resilient in the face of overwhelming turmoil. In the end we both learned something from each other and needed each other on that planet.

I thank you for reading this. I am sorry for James' passing. He thought of you two until the end. Enclosed in this as well is the tape deck from his "Walkman" of the last song he wanted to hear. He said it was You and his' special song. It still works. It is a lovely and beautiful song. Enclosed in here are a record of images I recorded in my free time on KALAX -501 with James.

I hope they make you two smile and remember him.

  Sincerely and respectfully,

  Ga'Roch (Gar). Friend of James.
