The Forgotten

  "...ouch" The boy groaned.

He slowly opened his eyes to a bright sun. He looked up to see a source of light that was hard to look at. Two, in fact. The boy covered his eyes after it got too unbearable and began to see purple -or green? - in his vision.

"OUCH! What is this!? Where am I?!" The boy questioned. It took a few long seconds for the boy to settle into his surroundings. After a while, he calmed down and began to look at his surroundings.

He was lying down on the stairs under a Tori gate leading to a Japanese-style shrine that is on top of a mountain. The shrine looked clean, as if someone had just cleaned it. Within the shrine was a small statue of a blindfolded woman whose features were difficult to perceive from afar.

"What in the hell?" The boy is very confused about his predicament. He tried to recall his memories...but failed.

"?" The boy tilted his head. "Who am I?"

Yes, the boy does not have any memories of himself, not even his own name. Although he has some unexplained basic knowledge and common sense of a person from modern day earth, he has no source of recollection...

  Except for one

"A ... ritual?" The memory is about the boy making a small cut on his palm with a sharp rock. The blood dripping from it leaks down on a complex magic circle with weird looking runes in front of a statue. A blindfolded woman statue.

The boy began to look around. He was sitting on a long set of stairs with occasional cracks that extended towards the bottom of the mountain. He looked at the surrounding the mountain and was faced with a forest of trees with black leaves as far as he could see.

As he turned his head towards the top of the stairs, his eye landed on the shrine.

"...I guess let's go with that first." He began to make his way towards the shrine.

When he was close enough to the statue, he began to take another look at it. The statue has an hourglass figure with her right hand raised towards the sky, while her left hand is perfectly cut at her elbow. He looked at the cut for a few long seconds.

"... That's... intriguing to say the least..." The boy began to look down at the complex magic circle.

"Should I?" The boy is perplexed about what to do. He seems to just want to check out what his only memory is about, but doesn't actually have anything planned out. He doesn't think to do the ritual. Because...

"What if this thing summons some kind of demon and demands my soul? Actually, that sounds very cool... Oh wait. NO! I mean, I'm not sure what is happening to me right now, but should my first instinct really be to commit a ritual?"

The boy is in a dilemma because he feels drawn to follow through with the ritual since it relates to his only memory of himself. Ever since his eye landed on the shrine, he was drawn to it, or rather, the statue and the magic circle. He felt it was the correct thing to do first and foremost, despite there being no logical reasoning behind it.

"Wouldn't this hurt?" The boy reasoned. However, the more he contemplates, the harder it is to resist the temptation.

In the end, after moving around during his inner struggles, he tripped on a crack in the stone floor, and his head slammed into the ground.

"OUCH! Man, I am already struggling as is." He started bleeding from a small cut on his head ... which dropped down the magic circle.

"Oh shi-" A warmth yet insidious feeling envelops the boy. The feeling is comfortable yet probing as if his existence is laid bare.

And then a voice with a nostalgic tone whispered into his ear

  [Welcome Back ???]

Then something appeared inside his mind.

  [Name:???]

  [Age: 16]

  [Legacy: The Forgotten, Soul Millennium]

  [Description: ???]

The boy clutched his head and widened his eyes at the sudden influx of information for a while.

"....Huh..." The boy takes a moment to process this information. "Why don't I have a name? Am I an orphan? Wait a minute. What even is this thing?"

The boy inspects the words. He has a feeling that this is something only he is seeing because the word seems ... like an illusion? It's more accurate that he felt the word rather than read the words. Besides the name and age, he doesn't really understand anything else. He couldn't do anything with it after messing around with it. That is, until he began focusing on the words...

[The Forgotten: Your chain has been forever broken.]

"... My chain?" The boy widened his eyes.

The boy then looked at himself. He was wearing a dark blue t-shirt that looked a little roughed up, along with black shorts, and is wearing a leather shoe. He was quite short, around 5ft, with somewhat long black hair. He looks back at the stairs he woke up on.

"There is no chain as far as I can see... Is it a metaphor? Ughh... so confusing."

He then tries the same thing for his other Legacy.

[Soul Millennium: Your soul has aged]

"My soul has aged? Are you calling me old?... you demon...god... I'm just gonna call you Thingy. Wait, but I am 16 years old, how is my soul, Millennium..uh... a thousand years old? Or is there a different meaning?"

Since the words felt interactive and seemed to respond to his thoughts -albeit only a little bit-, he considered it something with a sentiment, therefore the name "Thingy". It seems "Thingy" is a sort of being that can probe people and provide specific information about oneself.

After scrutinizing Thingy for a long while, the boy gave up on thinking about it after five minutes. There wasn't anything the boy could do about it. He wasn't really in a great state to discern metaphors or weird mysteries. Additionally, it seems like there is nothing else he can do to try to get more information from Thingy about himself.

Instead, He looks away from the words and began exploring the shrine. "I should have done this first." The boy sighed.

After around an hour, he found nothing in particular. After one last look, he then started walking down the stairs. He needed to go down the mountain even if the surrounding forest was giving off dangerous vibes. As he is walking, he looks towards the sky. The sky showed a hint of orange and was quite a beautiful sight. However...

"Why the hell are there two suns?" He contemplated for a while, but then gave up. Everything is already confusing as is. He knows nothing of himself. He is in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by trees that are giving bad vibes. He offered blood to a random demoness - or goddess?- and he is now looking at a sky filled with 2 suns.

Although he didn't know anything about the predicament, he was relatively calm. Well, at least on the outside...

'WHAT THE FUCK DO I DO, WHAT IF THAT RITUAL GAVE AWAY MY SOUL?!?! IS THERE ANYTHING WRONG WITH MY MIND?! WHERE'S MY SURVIVAL INSTINCT? FUCKING HELL WAS I PART OF SOME EXPERIMENT? WHY THE HELL WOULD I BE CHAINED?!? WHAT...'

The boy didn't show any of these thoughts on his face. From the beginning until now, he has been forming chaotic thoughts and has countless concerns to the extreme. From an outside perspective, however, it just looks like he's taking a stroll.

He looks down at the bottom of the stairs. It looks like it will take a while for him to reach the bottom of the mountain. Now, why would he want to go down the mountain despite its obvious danger and all his endless concerns?

"grgggg" The boy looked down and frowned at his stomach.

  "...I'm so hungry"
