Chapter 326: Kitsune vs Demon Lord

  Lucy

I ran straight towards Levathius, ignoring all the other demons. My aura was coating my fur in electricity and started shocking anyone who came too close. I had grown to the size of a horse to give myself more mass and soon Levathius was right before me, so I pounced.

I saw a grin on his face as he swung his axe in response. I had jumped from a bit further away, that meant he had more time to react. Jumping always had one big downside, once you left the ground your path was locked in. So you had to make sure you were fast enough.

As his axe closed in, it was my time to grin. Silly demon. Did he think I was just a mindless beast? There was one thing he had not accounted for: Flight magic. I dove under his swing and went for his left ankle. My teeth closed around the unprotected flesh. He wore no armour and soon his sweet blood filled my mouth. Unfortunately his bones seemed quite tough. I could not keep biting as his axe returned and I had to jump back.

During our exchange he had been shocked by the lightning surrounding me but the damage was minimal. Even the bleeding wound I had caused was healing before my eyes. Sadly the same trick would not work twice. I had deliberately jumped from further away, hoping he would fall for it. I guess it was time to use my speed instead.

I tried to bite him again a few times but he was surprisingly quick. While he failed to hit me I could not get my teeth around any part of his. I tried his ankles, his arms and I even considered the throat.

Suddenly he stomped on the ground and I felt something beneath me. I barely avoided a spike of rock as I dodged to the side, right into his attack. Thanks to my flight I escaped into the air but his axe grazed my right front leg.

As I floated above him he licked the blood from his axe with a grin. "Tasty. I think you will make a fine meal."

My wound had already closed but his use of earth magic complicated things. I could fly, sure, but I could fight more effectively on the ground. I could try some tier nine magic but unlike Amaya I did not have that many spellslots. Maybe I could bite him and channel a Storm's Judgement with my mouth? Of course, that was easier said than done.

I landed again and started circling my prey. His axe started glowing and his next swing unleashed a blade of energy coming my way. I narrowly dodged, right into the spike coming from the ground. I countered with a short range teleport right behind him.

Sadly I did not have enough time to unleash my lightning, but my claws slashed his back before he could react. As he turned I saw his axe glowing once more and jumped out of the way. I could see the devastation of his previous strike. It had cleaved through quite a few of his own demons who had the misfortune of being in the way.

Teleporting was a powerful tool but I could not do it too often. It was a fourth tier spell I had inherited from Amaya, but to cast it instantly I had to push it to a higher slot. It was something I liked to have for emergencies.

As the fight continued the situation kept getting worse. Levathius created a large number of rock bolts and started firing them at me. He combined that with his magical slashes and attacks from the ground. Sadly I was slower in the air so a few bolts hit me. On the ground I was vulnerable to his spikes.

As the fight continued I started taking more hits. While the wounds closed, blood started to coat my fur. I needed a new plan.

While I was fighting Levathius Kira was busy with the other demons. I saw the dragon in the sky breathing lightning on the endless horde. She would not be able to offer me much help.

As I contemplated the situation I felt a tingling in one of my tails. Amaya had theorised a lot about the power of additional tails. She was kind of obsessed with my fluffy appendages. So far my evolutions had increased my overall power and my aura. Amaya had helped me train my aura many times but we had not found any further benefits.

But now? Maybe it was the battle, or maybe my tails had been lazy but somehow they were reacting, awakening. I kept dodging attacks while I focused on the new sensation. I had just jumped to the left to avoid another rock shot as my intuition kicked in. I used my aura to feed magic to my tail. Suddenly a second me appeared. An illusion.

"Huh." Levathius commented, then he launched even more attacks.

A rock bolt harmlessly passed through the illusion. He nodded to himself and began attacking the real me once more.

I needed to control the illusion, make it look more real. As I pushed power into my second tail my focus started to split. I was controlling the illusion now. It was a bit disorienting at first but as I added magic to my third tail it became easier. Soon I was steering my main body and my illusion at the same time. Then I added one more. Now there were three of us, all running and jumping around. I kept moving a lot, hoping he would lose track of the real me.

Levathius answered with more but weaker attacks. It became easier to dodge as he was chasing three foxes now. As I eagerly activated all of my tails I found something else and I grinned maniacally.

Levathius changed tactics. He stopped his rock attacks and instead seemed to strengthen his body. Then he charged and used his axe. His newfound speed came as a surprise but with two illusions to confuse him I managed to avoid getting hit. But slowly he figured out who the real me was. With a triumphant cry he charged through the illusion to hit me in the face with his axe.

And I triggered the final tail. I swapped places with my illusion, who was now behind him. As his axe carved through air I jumped his back and bit into his neck. Then I unleashed Storm's judgement, straight through my teeth.

A loud cry followed as his body was wrecked by lightning, from the inside. It seemed that his organs were not as resistant as his skin and bones. Steam rose as he was cooked from the inside and my mouth was slowly making progress around his neck. His struggle weakened until my mouth closed, his head fell to the ground.

  I howled in victory.
