“So, how exactly is this going to work?” Jolly asked.
“You’ll see. Just give me a second and be warned. Stuff may get interesting.”
After giving out the warning again, Tesilim focused on bringing out his Chaos Mana. It didn’t take long, and once it was ready to go, he looked at the contract in his hands. The plan for it started by imbuing regular mana into it as he signed it with his soul, and then at some point during the signing, he would start throwing in his Chaos Mana.
Hopefully, the Chaos Mana would end up reacting to his will indirectly again and take hold of the contract. The entire process was a feat he couldn’t replicate too much since he was worried about the World Crystal not stepping in to help. The god had already done so once, and that was already good. The only reason why Tesilim was somewhat confident in trying it again with something that could, if indirectly, trigger his Chaos Mana was that the entire scenario was different. Sort of.
With the drake, it had been directly attached to his soul. This time, however, the whole thing was with a contract, which shouldn’t be making a second version of him. Of course, Tesilim could be wrong, and the Chaos Mana might latch onto the words of the contract too directly and accidentally create something crazy. Something the World Crystal would hopefully stop from getting too crazy, and even if it didn’t, the only thing Tesilim needed was for the entity to give him an assist and enforce the contract. Tesilim knew that might mean it was the last time the god intervened, but he needed the intervention now, so he might as well get it.
Tesilim began infusing the contract with mana. Instantly, the magical creation began to absorb it, and he felt the power of it increase slightly. He also knew from the feeling that he could dump his mana in there a hundred times over, and it wouldn’t be enough to ever stop someone like Jolly from ripping apart the contract or shrugging it off. Not only was it a matter of quantity, but it was also a matter of quality. After all, the contract didn’t refine the mana. It just absorbed it to power itself up.
A few seconds into the mana infusion, Tesilim extended his presence to cover the contract, then he infused his presence with his will and began to pour it into the contract. He instructed his will to begin “signing” the contract by imbuing it with the essence of his soul. And once that began, Tesilim started pouring in his Chaos Mana, which caused things to quickly spiral out of control.
The first problem was that he intended to slowly pour in the Chaos Mana; instead, all of it had been absorbed in a rush. Almost like the contract was a greedy vampire sucking the blood out of his favorite victims. Of course, the vampire was too excited and nearly killed its victim, which in this case was Tesilim getting drained out of his regular mana as well.
Like it happened when he summoned Drex, every time he got completely drained of mana, a headache followed. However, this time it was even worse because not only did the contract take all the mana in his soul, but the mana going through his body. It left him feeling exposed and parched. The feeling was so sudden and unnatural that, mixed with the sudden pain, he fell on his butt, leaving the contract to fall on the ground.
“Tesilim, are you okay?” Lili asked suddenly next to him.
Looking up at her with bleary eyes, he gave her a slight nod. His soul was hard at work refilling itself, and he already felt mana rushing into his body. Only a couple dozen seconds later, he was feeling almost back to normal, and with some help from Lili, he got up.
He took a second to stabilize, and Lili let him go once she saw that he could stand on his own. Then, they all stared at the contract. The contract was glowing in multicolor light, its pages slowly shifting in a rainbow of colors. Tesilim could feel his Chaos Mana within the contract, but it wasn’t being used up, at least not yet.
“So, what did you do?” Jolly asked, her eyes never leaving the neat pile of papers on the ground, whose first page had Tesilim’s name neatly written at the bottom.
“Well, I went to infuse some Chaos Mana into it as I attempted to sign it with my will and soul, but the moment the mana touched the contract, it was completely absorbed along with my normal mana.”
“Wait, you can infuse Chaos Mana into items now?” Lili questioned, seeing as she hadn’t seen Tesilim use his mana on anything but spells before.
“Yeah, I can now also use it on techniques. It's part of some upgrades I made while meditating.”

“Wait, does that mean that you can now possibly enchant items with your Chaos Mana?” Jolly asked, looking at Tesilim like he was a delicious snack of possibility.
Tesilim focused on what was happening to the contract, didn’t see the look on Jolly’s face, and casually responded with a “probably.”
Lili did see the look on the dryad's face and, in a hint of protective jealousy, went to Tesilim’s side, clinging to his arm, all the while distrustfully narrowing her eyes at the dryad. Jolly saw this and gave her a placating smile.
Feeling Lili grab his arm, Tesilim looked over at the elf questioningly, her gaze quickly snapping to meet his and giving him a warm smile. He was about to speak as to why she was doing what she was doing, but then he felt her breasts against his arm, realized he liked her, and decided questioning things was a dumb idea.
Not that he would have had much of a chance since, only a few seconds after, things scaled to the next level of shit.
Whatever had been happening to the contract had seemed to stabilize, and surprisingly, it hadn’t triggered a Chaos Event. Of course, just then, Tesilim got the notification, but more importantly and worryingly, the contract began absorbing mana as if it were a black hole.
?? Crystal Notice ??
Warning! Chaos Event Imminent, prepare yourself.
Rolling d20. 1. Rolling d4. 4.
??
All the mana around Tesilim disappeared in less than a second, and only a few seconds after he saw the notification, and without warning, everything went black.
Lili had been holding onto Tesilim tightly, making sure the dryad knew to back off. She didn’t like the look on Jolly’s face and had acted without thinking. It had been an act of protecting her friend from someone who clearly was beginning to see them as a resource more than a person. However, it had also been an act of selfishness to want to keep Tesilim’s mana to herself, and additionally, it had been an act of jealousy she didn’t know she had.
She had been teasing the elf for a while now, and they had gotten close, but she hadn’t realized that she had started slowly gaining feelings for him. They had only known each other for a few months, but they had basically spent all that time together, so it wasn’t odd that things had developed to where they were. It’s not like she loved the elf, but after today, she could certainly say she liked him as more than just a friend.
As these thoughts were going through her head, the contract began to absorb mana from all around them. The swift change took her by surprise since it drained the surrounding mana like it was nothing. However, what caught her by even more surprise was when Tesilim went limp in her grasp.
She had still been grasping his arm and was caught by surprise, but he didn’t weigh enough to drag her down with him. Still, something had happened, so she slowly placed him on the ground. The action got Jolly’s attention, who had been inspecting the sudden change in the contract and its sudden absorption of mana.
One second later, the dryad was crouching down next to Lili and Tesilim.
“What happened!?”
“I don’t know, he just went limp!” Lili answered and saw the dryad’s eyes go wide.
“He’s dead.” The green skin woman said solemnly.
“What!? Stop joking. That’s not funny!” Lili said angrily, her already growing panic increasing to a new level.
“Scan him,” Jolly replied, still staring at Tesilim like she couldn’t believe it herself.
Lili’s heart came to a stop when she began scanning Tesilim. His heart had stopped. He wasn’t breathing. She was so confused. What had happened? What killed him? He had been fine just a second ago. All sorts of emotions were running through her head before she quickly focused on the dryad.
“Heal him! Hurry!”
‘I can’t!”
“What do you mean you can’t!”
“I have tried multiple times, even attempted a weaker form of resurrection. It's like the spell won’t take hold. Something is preventing the magic from working.”
“No, no, no! This can’t be happening!” Lili screamed, and she began attempting to start Tesilim’s heart by pumping his chest.
While wildly attempting to bring Tesilim back to life, Lili ignored the dryad, who had gotten up to stare at the space around them before her attention shifted back to the contract.
Its color hadn’t changed, the mana absorption had stopped, and the contract had gained lots of power but still not enough to prevent someone like her from breaking it apart. Not that she would. More importantly, she extended her presence outwards, covering enough distance to reach the city and beyond, and what she found was not good.
The entire area in about a ten-mile radius had been drained of mana. That would cause people to notice, which would be problematic. However, even more concerning was that she was feeling time and space begin to shift. The effect covered the entire desolate area where mana was just beginning to rush in from everywhere else. It was an odd thing to feel as her literal will and presence were affected by the magic at play, and her input of information from outside the affected radius began to slow down.
The feeling was just like what had happened when Tesilim… Realizing what was happening, Jolly’s eyes went wide. She was experiencing the power of the World Crystal, and this time, she was at the center of it.
