Book 2, chapter 16

It was as he was charging toward the buffalo that he really regretted not coming up with a way to avoid it without worrying about the stampede. He remembered Grey suggesting to him about buying a glider so he could fly over the buffalo and drop bombs on them which, in theory, was a great idea. Except he had no idea how to fly a glider and could have easily seen himself crashing into the ground. Granted he could have taught himself but he didn't know how long that would take and preferred to use the time he had instead of just making more traps.

“Load of good that did you.”

“I was working with what I had!” He defended himself as he manifested his spider legs so he could stand above the buffalo and actually see where he was going as opposed to trying to dodge the herd on the ground.

He chugged a health, stamina and mana potion along the way, thankful that the system store had also sold those things too for he had quickly stockpiled them for this exact reason. Hopefully that would help offset a lot of the negative effects if he starts to overuse his manifestations.

He scurried past the various buffalo who seemed quite agitated with him for very good reason since he was responsible for killing many in their herd. While he did accept responsibility for that, he also felt like the system should be more to blame than himself. Perhaps that was passing the buck though as he could have just abandoned the territory.

Questionable decisions and thoughts should be pondered later however as he was in a very unfortunate circumstance. A lot of the charging buffalo crashed into his spider legs causing him to have to constantly mend any potential damage that they caused while also trying to keep his balance so he didn't fall to the ground and get trampled by them.

Despite his complaints it was manageable and as he got further down the strip, he began to note the devastation his traps had wrought. Hundreds if not thousands of buffalo corpses laid strown on the ground or mutilated in the pits. Many had body parts scattered all over due to his various explosions. Only now did he realize how sadistic and sociopathic his little artistic explosions seemed when witnessing everything he had done and every creature he had killed.

“Focus! Be depressed later! Find the herd leader now! If you can kill that one it should be only a matter of time before the rest of the herd retreats. That is of course assuming you don't want to kill every single creature here!” Grey shouted at him and he had to grit his teeth and turned his attention back towards the actual battlefield.

She was right as much as he hated to admit it. This wasn’t the first time he had committed a mass genocide of creatures anyways. He just hoped it would be the last.

He continued moving forward, focusing not on the devastation he brought but the living buffalo still charging forward. He had to chug another set of potions just to be safe while throwing identify on every single animal he could that looked like it had the potential of being the herd leader.

Suddenly a very loud guttural sound pierced through the pounding hooves of the buffalo that sounded like a mix between a howl and a roar which quickly captured Quill's attention. His eyes snapped towards a large armored Buffalo off in the distance that stood well above its brethren. Its eyes laser focused on him. Quill shot another identify towards the creature and quickly got his results.

  Armored bison Herd Leader (Elder)

  level 64

Often found traveling in a herd, while they usually try to live and let live they are also notoriously stubborn and territorial. If you anger one, you anger them all.

The Herd Leader obviously had no plans on waiting around for Quill to come to him as it began charging. As it did so, its horns grew larger and sharper on the creature's head while its metal sheened fur seemed to grow thicker. With a potential end goal in sight Quill decided to meet the buffalo's challenge and began scurrying his spider legs towards the charging creature.

The rest of the buffalo quickly got out of the way so it was a straight path for the both of them and the moment the herd leader lowered its head with its horns at the ready, Quill dissipate his spider legs and quickly manifested his Beyblade underneath his feet having it spin as fast and as hard as he could.

Their clash sent shock waves through the strip with a loud bang and Quill found himself launching off the Beyblade due to the momentum, causing his manifestation to dissipate. Meanwhile the buffalo's head was jerked to the side due to its horns clashing with the beyblade and its own momentum was lost but still seemed otherwise okay.

Not wanting to let up the attack. Quill rolled midair and manifested a second Beyblade underneath his feet right next to the side of the Herd Leader. This allowed his spinning blades to rip and tear into the monster side which resulted in a high-pitched screeching sound as it tore against the monster's metal fur, knocking it to the side. However it did not make the monster fall as it dug its meaty hooves into the ground with clear stubbornness as if to say “You may make me move but I will not fall”.

Quill was naturally launched in the opposite direction towards the cliff due to the clash but he had spent the time he needed to travel between the strip and the system store by riding his Beyblade and thus had gotten more used to controlling the thing.

He pivoted the manifestation around, ignoring the various buffalo that got caught in its whirling blades as he shot forward yet again just as the Herd Leader turned around to meet his charge and somehow parried with its horn. He was pushed off to the side while the buffalo slid back a few more feet towards the forest and a plan quickly started to form in Quill's head.

His beyblade wasn't breaking through the heavy armor of the Buffalo but he might not have to do that if he managed to push the monster into the E-grade Zone. There were several scary looking e-grade monsters standing watching their battle, including the weasel.

He pivoted the beyblade again towards the buffalo and managed to get three more passes striking the creature and pushing it back a little more each time. Making sure to keep up said attacks so it didn't have a chance to move forward or try to build up momentum for a full on charge.

On his 5th pass, the buffalo seemed to have enough and slammed its hoof into the ground causing the entire strip to rumble before the dirt seemed to rupture every which way with spikes shooting out of the ground towards him.

Thankfully the Beyblade easily broke through all of that and hit the buffalo yet another time with a screeching sound. This time denting the monster's skull a little as it let out another horrific howl.

More dirt and rock shot from the ground this time trying to disrupt Quills stability with his Beyblade. It had actually succeeded when some of the ground curved underneath the spinning point causing him to tip backwards. But instead of just accepting his fate, he dissipated the manifestation and remanifested it almost immediately towards a flatter surface to get his stability and proceeded to hit the buffalo yet again.

This time he managed to bend one of the horns of the herd leader as it went to parry his next attack. The monster seemed to realize that none of these tactics were working and slammed its hoof down into the ground again.

Quill had expected more mounds or spikes but instead his Beyblade started sinking into the Earth with rapid progression as its spinning blades began flinging mud and grime everywhere. The bastard had actually created quicksand and he leapt off his Beyblade dissipating the manifestation before trying to remanifest yet a third Beyblade all while chugging another set of potions to keep the strain down.

However the herd leader seemed done with Quills Beyblades and the moment his third one touched ground, it immediately started sinking back into more mud. This time the mud churned and moved, trying to throw him into a half-filled pit of dead buffalo nearby.

He leapt off his manifestation again, recognizing that this was a losing battle while manifesting a large thin platform under his feet so he didn't immediately start sinking when he landed on the ground.

The herd leader gave a satisfied huff before starting to charge Quill, quickly taking away the ground he had won as it lowered its horns to gore him. Gritting his teeth and frustration he jumped back as hard and as fast as he could while manifesting a large shield he could hide his body behind, not bothering with adding any spikes.

When the Buffalo hit, he'd imagined that must have been what it felt like to get hit by a semi truck as the sheer force and Shockwave ruptured through his body and likely broke several bones while possibly rupturing some organs. He was launched all the way across the strip and over the cliff before he managed to think through the pain and quickly drank yet another health potion. He really hoped there was no downside to drinking so many of these so quickly.

He manifested and fired his hook shot into the cliff, yanking himself back to the strip, making sure to land on a safe area that didn't have his air pressure traps. He felt the health potion take effect and painfully snapped his bones back into place. He was getting a real fucking tired of all the monsters he ran into putting him in what felt like near death situations. If they wanted to kill him, they could at least do so in an efficient manner that didn't involve so much fucking pain!

The herd leader was glaring at him from across the strip. Clearly annoyed that its first charge hadn't been enough to kill him. Quill spat on the ground and began to walk towards the monster at a steady pace while maintaining eye contact. He needed to change tactics again.

The herd leader seemed to take his strut towards it as a challenge and began to charge him, ramping up speed with every hoof pound into the ground. Quill refused to back down as he continued his steady pace all while maintaining eye contact. He needed to time this perfectly because if he didn't, he'd end up as ground paste.

Keeping the image in mind he let his manifestation seep out as mist in front of him, not fully manifesting the construct just yet as the pounding of the hoofs from the herd leader grew louder and louder with its full weight soon bearing down on him.

When it was practically on top of him, he snapped his manifestation in place as a Looney Tune style springboard and with every ounce of mental strength he launched the heavy bastard up over his head and to the cliff.

Perhaps the thing was heavier than he gave it credit for as he didn't quite manage to have it go over the cliff. Instead they just barely landed on the side of the cliff but his air pressure traps instantly triggered making the creature stumble just enough for it to lose its footing and soon took a tumble down the Cliffside and towards the ocean.

He wasn’t going to let it end there as much as wanted to and chugged another set of potions. He had no idea if that monster could swim since the laws of physics have apparently been thrown out the window after the system came here. He also didn't know if it could scale the cliff or perhaps even fly for some bullshit reason. If that wasn't enough reason, he also didn't know how long the creature could hold its breath. He needed to finish this properly.

He dove off the cliff while glaring down at the herd leader that was thrashing in the water, already manifesting his pile driver. On the bright side it was clear the creature did not want to be in the water so a small victory there.

He shot four poles from his pile driver down into the water as a square with a net in the center of it, catching the herd leader and yanking it down into the bottom of the ocean. This pinned it to the sea floor before shooting his pile driver down into the buffalo's body.

He felt the creature thrash and struggle against the netted webbing as the pile driver pole slammed into its side. Sadly this wasn't enough so he did it again, and then again. Repeatedly he slammed the massive Pike into the struggling creature. His frustration and anger over all of this unnecessary bullshit seemingly poured out of him as he started screeching at the top of his lungs while driving the pike down over and over and over again until finally.
