Unbelievable! How could gossip travel that fast? I was on my way to tell my wife that I had just agreed to officiate Prince Baiyu and Duchess Violet’s wedding when she met me at the gate and told me the main hall was full of visitors, all asking for an invite.
Where did they even hear about it?! I was only told about it that very same day!
Discretion being the better part of valor, I grabbed my wife, closed the gate behind her, and ran to the back of the house where we jumped over the wall and entered, snuck into the nursery room through the window.

We would have made a clean escape if we had been able to take the baby and portal out of there right away. Alas, we had to pack all the baby things first, and by the time we finished, the more powerful of our guests had already sensed my presence.
My wife left for her parents’ house while I was left behind with the horrible task of telling hordes of angry VIPs that the ceremony was private.
Thank goodness that the Lady of the West announced the next day that the wedding banquet was open to all.
Even so, there were still a few dozen people who were absolutely convinced that they were too important not to be invited to the ceremony itself. I had to run away in the middle of the night and hide in a cave to avoid them.
