#38 The Deal

“I am Berlin, an 8th circle mage, and I would like to take you as my resear—...disciple. Yeah, disciple.”

Ric looked at him suspiciously and asked,

“Can I take a look at the card?”

Berlin puffed in annoyance and exclaimed

“You brat, You don’t believe me?

Ric smiled, a sneaky grin appearing on his face

“Would you believe someone who tried to make you a research subject?”

Berlin threw the card to Ric in annoyance, he went back towards his counter and sat on the table. Ric carefully looked at the card, his thoughts racing “This looks real, and if he is really Berlin: the sole disciple of the strongest mage and human, Edward Ludian who is also the principle of this academy. Then this is a big deal! If I become his disciple I can get a strong backing to tackle future obstacles…”

Ric looked at Berlin, ”But…” he kept staring until Berlin questioned

“What? Why you staring at me?”

Ric stated bluntly with a straight face

“Sir Berlin, I can’t become your disciple.”

Berlin snapped, veins bulging as his anger rose.

  “Are you kidding me?“

Berlin’s mana started bursting out, Suddenly pressuring Ric, his body became heavier, as if carrying a boulder, Ric was shocked by the sudden increase in pressure, but he held on, “Huff” Ric gasped, his legs were starting to give out,

“Do you know what you just did?”

Ric clenched his teeth, he forcefully raised his head and exclaimed

“Yeah… I-I know you are the sole disciple of the principle-”

Berlin interrupted him, his eyes filled with mana, glowing bright purple, giving off an intimidating look as he said.

  ”And you dare refuse me?!”

His mana pressured Ric more and more, Ric looked like he could faint any moment, his legs were shaking, he tried using mana but failed, he then looked at Berlin in the eyes and yelled out

“A master-disciple relationship doesn’t pop out of the blue! You don’t know anything about me and I don’t know crap about you! How the heck do you expect me to take you as my master?!”

Berlin stared at Ric, silent swept through the tense air, Ric was still holding on despite the pressure, seeing this a smile crept on Berlin’s face and he exclaimed

  “Well said.”

And he stopped the mana bursting out, Ric gasped in relief as the pressure on him disappeared like it never existed. Berlin then came forward and said

“For a brat, you sure are gutsy.”

He walked towards his counter while speaking

“I have seen many good-for-nothing idiots, who bark all the time but when I pressure them just slightly, they tug tail and run away.”

He glanced at Ric and exclaimed with a grin on his face,

“You are different, if I may say quite like me when I was your age, handsome, gutsy, smart, and courageous.”

He praised himself, basking in self glory, while Ric gathered himself up, and said

“Now, why don’t you give me my reward?”

  Berlin got confused and exclaimed

  “What reward?”

  Then Ric explained

“The reward a student would get for surviving the torture of an eccentric mad man.”

Berlin folded his hand in anger and spat out

“Huh?! What do you mean eccentric?! And you won’t get dirt from me brat!”

A mischievous smile appeared on Ric’s face and he said

“ ’A weird old man tortured me, just because I didn’t wanted to be the subject for his research’ Who do you think they would believe? An innocent freshman like me, or a madman like you?”

Berlin stared at Ric annoyingly as Ric continued

“And judging by what you said earlier, you have done this to other students before, so there will be enough evidence once they start to look into it, and once this news reaches the principle, he will be very sad, am I right?”

  Berlin sighed, and exclaimed

“Alright you win, how much do you want?”

Ric raised his hand, and showed one finger. Berlin looked and exclaimed

  “One-hundred points? Take it.”

Berlin took out another card from his drawer, Ric raised an eyebrow in confusion, and said

  “Its One-thousand not One-hundred.”

Berlin was shocked as He yelled out

“One-thousand?! You brat do you even know the value of those points?!”

Ric was taken aback by the sudden scream, but he slyly exclaimed

“Ofcourse~ that’s why I am asking One-thousand points not One-hundred, for the great disciple of the principle, this must be a pocket change right?”

Berlin clenched his fist in annoyance and negotiated

  “Two-hundred!”

  Ric also replied

  “Nine-hundred!”

  Berlin continued

  “Three-hundred!”

  And Ric also stated

  “Eight-hundred!”

  So, Berlin also continued

  “Four-hundred!”

  Ric also kept going

  “Seven-hundred!”

Berlin got annoyed, and he yelled out

“Five-hundred it is! Take it or leave it!”

Ric grinned for a second before agreeing

“Alright, good doing business with you sir Berlin.”

Ric took out his card and to give it to Berlin and exclaimed

“Please transfer the amount on this card.”

But Berlin refused, “No need, just touch your card to mine”

A screen screen popped up saying, “Do you wish to transfer Five-hundred points to Ric?”

Berlin answered, “Yes” in a flash, both cards glowed bright and a message popped saying “Transaction successful.”

Both of them took their cards, Berlin went to his counter, annoyed and mumbling to himself. Meanwhile Ric was thinking “So that’s how you transfer points!” he smiled internally “This will be pretty useful.”

Berlin sat on his chair grumbling in annoyance, he saw Ric approaching him, so he said

“What the heck do you want now, you thieving brat?”

Ric put up a gentle smile on his face, “Oh come on~ sir Berlin, we are business partners aren’t we?”

  Berlin replied by yelling

“Keep that to youself! And get lost!”

  Ric persisted and continued

“I can help you in your research… But I have a condition.”

Berlin narrowed his eyes, his curiosity piqued. “...Go on.”
