Chapter 9: Rules

A rough hand, as large as a basin, landed on Yorkris's shoulder.

At the same time, Yorkris's expression changed; he felt an irresistible force on his shoulder, and then his body was involuntarily flung back, crashing against the wall.

Dazed and dizzy, Yorkris couldn't react immediately.

  "Brother!"

Yorkriana screamed in shock, her face pale with fright, and hurriedly ran to Yorkris's side, holding up her unsteady brother.

Everyone looked over and saw a giant, about two meters tall, standing where Yorkris had just been. His terrifying height conveyed an indescribable sense of oppression.

This man's face was somewhat deformed and his reactions seemed a bit slow, as he muttered in a muffled voice, "What's this, so weak..."

  "What the hell..."

Nidhogg's eyes widened in surprise as he looked at the suddenly appeared "monster," silently shouting in his heart, "Are you sure you're here to study at the Wizard Academy? Not going to the Knight Academy or a human monster exhibition? Did you grow up eating giant meat?"

Even Yorkris, who had been pushed away, was so shocked by the sight of this humanoid monster that he couldn't speak, utterly stunned.

"Haha, Andrew, not everyone has your strength!"

The guy confronting Yorkris laughed smugly, then rubbed his swollen eye with a wince, glaring viciously at Yorkris.

  "This isn't over today!"

Just then, a man about 1.6 meters tall squeezed through the crowd and ran directly to the humanoid monster named Andrew, glancing around with shifty, triangular eyes and a sleazy grin on his face.

"Not over? Haha, I have to admit, his sister is quite something. If you're still not satisfied, Bai, just go ahead..."

  "Go ahead, your mother!"

Yorkris roared, charging at the sleazy man, knowing this guy must be the "Rat" Bai had mentioned.

  Bang!

Yorkris was once again punched away by the humanoid monster Andrew, clutching his stomach with a pale face, trembling and barely able to stand.

Their combat abilities were clearly not on the same level; Yorkris could only be abused by this humanoid monster.

"Not fun, the wizard lord said no killing."

The humanoid monster twisted his wrist regretfully, adding, "So weak and still trying to take territory? Hmph, only the strong deserve to have their own territory."

The humanoid monster spoke in a gruff voice, but his mind was quite clear.

The "Rat" nearby also chimed in mockingly, "Today, the three of us will teach you the rules of the Wizard Continent, that is, might is always right, haha."

Bai looked extremely smug, as though he had personally knocked Yorkris senseless.

"No way, I, Bai, have never been humiliated like this since I was a child, today I must have his sister!"

With a swollen eye, Bai, full of anger, walked towards Yorkriana, his expression like a raging bull.

Yorkriana was already terrified, standing by her brother trembling, while the other spectators in the cabin wore expressions of indifference, waiting to watch the show.

On the first day of the ocean liner, Nidhogg and his companions were given a real lesson on the rules of the Wizard Continent, and they didn’t look pleased.

"If you... dare bully her, I'll tell Baron on the deck!"

At this critical moment, Wade, who had been too scared to intervene, spoke up in a threatening tone.

However, upon receiving Bai's fierce glare, Wade instantly wilted, nervously waving both hands, "Uh... I was just kidding."

  Bang!

Bai punched Wade to the ground, scoffing with disdain, which was met with cheers from the cabin, "Way to go, oh yeah..."

  "Another punch..."

Nidhogg and his group stood in the hallway, nervously watching as more people poked their heads out from their cabins to enjoy the commotion, feeling a growing sense of isolation.

So this was the rule of the wizarding world?

Power dominated everything, cold and ruthless.

While the people present were feeling desperate, a joyful voice sounded from behind Nidhogg.

If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

"Haha, the strong dominate territory? Why didn’t anyone tell me this rule sooner? Big guy, I’ve taken a liking to your room. Here’s your lower-level cabin number."

With the voice, a brass plate was tossed onto the humanoid monster Andrew's bald head, then clattered to the floor.

Andrew and the Rat beside him were practically frozen in place, unable to believe their eyes.

  Is she crazy? Seeking death?

Everyone looked toward the voice and saw it was Nina!

Nidhogg and his companions suddenly remembered something, a hint of joy appearing. How could they forget about her?

With Nina stepping up, her mastery of sorcery could easily handle a brute like that!

Sure enough, they saw Nina mutter a spell, pointing at the humanoid monster Andrew. To everyone's disbelief, a gigantic vine wrapped around him seven or eight times, pulling him to the ground with a "thud," leaving him mumbling incoherently.

  "Bastard, go to hell!"

Seizing the moment of Bai's shock nearby, Yorkris punched him in the other eye, and as he was dazed, kneed him in the stomach, bringing him down.

"Ah... big brother, big sister, I was forced, spare me!"

Seeing the situation turn bad, the Rat began pleading for his life, his triangular eyes filled with panic, cold sweat forming on his forehead.

He never expected someone in this group to have mastered sorcery, binding Andrew and stripping him of his combat ability.

Nidhogg sneered, "Forced my ass, go to hell!"

Using his street-fighting skills honed as a child among beggars, Nidhogg knocked him out with a single punch.

Silence, dead silence in the cabin.

Everyone’s eyes were on Nina, as all were from the remote Eastern Coral Island and detected to have the potential to become wizard apprentices, so they hadn’t seen much of the world. They had no idea Nina was using a magical artifact to perform sorcery.

They all thought Nina had mastered sorcery on her own, filling them with awe and fear.

After all, this was the mysterious sorcery of extraordinary power!

"Haha, great, finally I can stay in the top-level cabin, no longer crowded with those sailors. Thanks, big guy."

Nina joyfully entered her new room, closing the wooden door behind her with a "thud," without looking back.

Seeing the show was over, the other people in the cabin also closed their doors, losing interest.

Nidhogg glanced at the three incapacitated guys and didn’t pay them any mind. He said to Yorkris and his sister, "Since it’s over here, I’m heading back."

  "Thank you, I... uh..."

Yorkris didn’t know what to say, recalling his behavior over the past few days, feeling terribly embarrassed and slightly ashamed, so he just nodded awkwardly, unwilling to look Nidhogg in the eye.

Yorkriana, on the other hand, knowing her brother's nature, looked at Nidhogg and the others with tearful gratitude.

"Thank you all, my brother and I will never forget this, and thanks to Brother Wade too."

Yorkriana even turned to thank Wade, who was equally embarrassed not far away.

Wade, having just stood up, with a black ring around his right eye, gave a forced, awkward smile before turning to leave.

But Binhanson, laughing heartily, said, "The great people of Tanborough City cannot stand to see comrades bullied. For a comrade, we would go through fire and water, not to mention a mere two-meter humanoid monster, even if it were an abyss demon..."

Nidhogg shook his head speechlessly and left with large strides.

"Hey, hey, Nidhogg, wait for me! That punch you threw just now was the coolest one I’ve ever seen, so handsome! I bet if Sherry saw it, she’d dump her boyfriend and fall into your arms..."

Binhanson continued to ramble in Nidhogg’s ear.

Later, Nidhogg opened his cabin door, where a musty smell wafted out, making him wrinkle his nose and fan the air.

Fortunately, there were no unwelcome guests in Nidhogg’s room. Otherwise, he might have had to fight for the space himself.

If anyone had tried to claim the third-floor cabin, Nidhogg’s fighting skills would likely have allowed him to take them down easily.

The room was small, only about ten square meters, with just a bed, a table, and a chair—no other furnishings.

Yes, the bed had bedding, and there was a candle holder on the table.

  "Sigh..."

He sighed. Although the cabin's environment was poor, he had to make do.

Nidhogg lit the candle, closed the door, and took out “Meditation Guidance” and “Hunter's Nose Modification and Scent Atlas.”

As for “Meditation Guidance,” although Nidhogg had managed to possess magic power in his body after more than half a month of effort, his understanding of “Meditation Guidance” suggested he only had 2 to 3 points of magic, in an initial activation state.

According to “Meditation Guidance,” a wizard’s normal magic level should be a fluctuation range of mental power multiplied by 10.

This means with Nidhogg’s measured 12 mental power, his magical potential should be around 120 points of magical fluctuation in an extreme state.

"Too bad there’s no crystal ball to accurately and timely understand my condition."

Nidhogg felt a bit regretful. A crystal ball is a wizard's most commonly used magical artifact, serving many purposes, including self-assessment.

“Hunter's Nose Modification and Scent Atlas” contained knowledge much more profound than “Meditation Guidance,” involving many specialized wizard terms that Nidhogg, lacking wizard knowledge, couldn’t comprehend.

However, this magical book had two distinct parts.

The first part was the nose modification, which Nidhogg understood as a spell to alter a wizard's nose, known as "Hunter's Nose."

Due to the extensive specialized knowledge involved, Nidhogg couldn’t decipher it.

The second part of this magical book was the Scent Atlas, which documented 17,852 scents that a wizard could isolate, detailing molecular elements and special scents that evoked particular reactions.

With nothing else to do, Nidhogg felt this would be his greatest advantage after joining the Wizard Academy and planned to memorize all the contents of this spell book!

Once, this magical book was Nidhogg’s greatest hope.

With something to occupy him, time flew by, and before he knew it, ten days had passed as he sailed past numerous islands.

More wizard apprentices boarded the ship, about a few hundred, and the large vessel full of wizard apprentices sailed into the deep sea.

The deep sea was rife with countless terrifying ocean legends. Even as an inhabitant of a remote island, Nidhogg heard many versions of the stories, including mysterious sea monsters capsizing ships and eating people.

In short, the deep sea was a place even wizards hadn’t fully explored, filled with mystery and the unknown.

On this day, Nidhogg faced his meal with a deep frown, sighing, "Fish and mushroom soup again?"

No wonder Nidhogg sighed; anyone would get sick of eating the same dish for ten consecutive days.

As for why it was always fish and mushroom soup, Nidhogg suspected that the mushrooms were grown by wizards using sorcery.

As for the fish, of course, the sailors caught them from the sea.

Many people had complained to Baron about this, but a day later, Baron replied, "The owner said you don’t have to eat it if you don’t like it."

And then he ignored everyone, leaving them speechless.

Frowning, Nidhogg picked up his fish and mushroom soup, ready to swallow it, when suddenly the cabin was filled with noise, and someone vaguely shouted, "Pirates! Pirates are coming!"

Judging by the excitement rather than fear in the voice, it made sense. This was a ship with a formal wizard aboard, so pirates were no threat and an occasional pirate visit was an entertaining novelty for the wizard apprentices stuck in the cabin.

Nidhogg, curious, moved to see what was happening outside the cabin.
