Book 2 chapter 22: The crown prince Takes Advantage and The Leocartas Family comes knocking

Grant quietly monitored their progress from outside the dungeon.

With his control over the dungeon, it was easy to see Devis' progress, though at this moment he manifested it in the form of an illusionary image.

That was because the crown prince was watching at this moment, eagerly watching over his shoulder.

Devis commanded the ignystro, while engaging in combat.

With a swipe of his blade, he sent a goblin's head flying while commanding the Ignystro.

"Flame, use flame charge and smoke bomb!

Hearing his master's command, the small lizard charged in, increasing it's speed before bursting into an explosion of pure smoje, diluting the goblin's senses.

As an ork/demon hybrid, his senses were inherently above those of a goblin.

Using the smoke bomb, Devis could still perceive the world while they couldn't.

He relied on this difference in perception, taking the chance to clear them out before the goblins could react.

Watching how Devis commanded his ignystro with ease, he was satisfied.

There was no shame in using your advanced senses to outmaneuver others. If they failed to perceive you, then that was their weakness.

While his commanding was average, his nurturing skills were clearly top notch, as the ignystro's strength and current state were definitely good for their species.

Of course, part of it was due to the fact that Devis could pull on his resources without problem, a convenience most beast tamers don't have.

Even the new beast taming civilization doesn't have that sheer number of resources.

While this is true, as his disciple, it was only natural that Devis could gain these resources.

Even when he eventually leaves his tutelage to live his own life Grant will make sure, he has what he needs to live a full life.

That is his responsibility as master.

The crown prince had already realized his senior brother was special, already trying to figure out how he could win over such a figure.

  He did have a sister...

Watching the young hybrid fight, while the crown prince was greatly enjoying the scene, his eyes were also flickering with thought, thinking carefully before asking.

"Master, would it be possible for me to also take the beast taming class?" He asked and Grant nodded with ease.

"Of course." While what he was teaching was quite valuable for the romana empire, and all other superpowers, the beast taming civilization, Daxia, was already spreading it around their whole civilization.

As long as the Romana empire was made aware of them and pointed in the right direction, they could easily infiltrate and steal the "secrets"

Frankly, the knowledge wasn't that useful. What was really valuable were the specialized evolutionary directions Grant had quietly stolen from the noble families, and his own ability to generate new forms at whim. These were the truly valuable things.

So what if he shared the nurturing methods, education, and the beast taming system? It was public there and eventually would spread outwards once Daxia came into contact with other civilizations. It was inevitable. If Daxia wanted to grow, it had to accept outside contact. The current elf kingdom is a good example of what happens when a civilization refuses to make contact with others.

Even if the dwarves have been subjugated by the Romana empire, their current status in the world is far better than the elves, desired by everyone and rather protrected.

The romana empire wouldn't dare to treat the dwarves too badly, not with other countries easily eyeing the dwarven population. Even the Qing in their xenophobic ways would merely claim dwarves as a "subspecies" of humans to have them join them.

The spirit alliance of the Americas would greet them with open arms and Africa, which is currently in a state of war, would also easily welcome them. Any nation from africa would.

While exposure brings weakness, allowing others to analyze you, it also provides opportunities, opportunities to make oneself indispensable.

Sure, beast taming sounds like a purely competitive profession, but that's just because of a misconception.

There is another name for beast taming, and that is animal husbandry. Domestication.

Why did beast taming sects flee china in the age of cultivation? It was because they were the biggest resource cows.

The highest producer of resources, and often deeply intimate with their companions. It's no wonder they were targeted and forced to flee en masse, forming the current Daxia.

Were the cultivating sects not so xenophobic, they would've quickly realized the folly of scaring away such a huge cash cow, and accordingly, once they expose themselves to the world, combined with sufficient strength, Daxia will be a rather popular nation.

And the young prince was easily aware of the implications of a formal beast taming system. The current empire rarely domesticates monsters en masse, with the crown prince himself lucky to have obtained a dragon due to chance.

The current beast taming system in Romana is rigid from what Grant observed. The most popular monsters are strong ones like dragons, griffins, divine descendants, et cetera. And while true, they have high level potential, they're also difficult to acquire and essentially restricted to the nobility.

Beast taming systems used to solve this problem through bloodline awakening and devolving to the ancestral bloodlines. While this also works, it depends on having recently strong ancestors, and is a really painful process, far less natural than simply evolving.

The beast taming sects that went on to form Daxia began exploring evolutions, developing evolutionary routes, and exploring new evolutions, resulting in a well mapped and easy to choose from evolutionary system, making it accessible to all castes.

Currently, the current empire is likely very offended by the drows he's made or the axobodl's and more.

But once a proper beast taming system is introduced to the empire, his works would be far more appreciated, where a streamlined evolutionary direction is created, where the requirement for each evolution is clear and an easy entrance to beast taming is presented.

The emperor came later that day, with a serious expression on his face, cutting to the chase.

"What do you want for it?"

"Nothing." Grant said casually, yet the emperor's brow furrowed as he looked at Grant with doubt.

"Free things are often more expensive. " The emperor was worldly and was aware of how dangerous an invisible price tag was.

"Perhaps, but soon this knowledge will but much more available. I'm just providing it to you ahead of time." Grant admitted.

Seeing the emperor's confused and demanding look, he explained the matter about Daxia, to which the emperor showed a thoughtful look.

"So how did you know about them?" he asked, and Grant merely waved it off.

"There are few things hidden from me in this world emperor. Oh, and Loki managed to get in a while back, resulting in a small crack in their concealing formations. I wouldn't look down on them though. Their current leader is a 6th level powerhouse." Grant warned, making sure the emperor didn't start getting any tricky ideas.

The emperor rolled his eyes. "Do I look like a fool? Even if I had that thought it'd be impossible. Considering how far north they are, the sheer resource burn of traveling back and forth would erase such ideas. If I were to conquer anyone, it would be those smaller nations around us like Friendce, which is currently about to start another revolution. Besides," he added, "the greatest benefit here is that the Qing dynasty will undoubtedly have a huge headache." he said with a grin.

After all, the Qing were the ones who drove the beast taming sects out. Even if the younger ones no longer remembered this grudge, their fundamentally clashing ideals would cause the two groups to clash, anyone could see that.

Those who saw monsters as friends and those who saw them as resources. They were enemies from day one.

The Qing and Romana relations were no longer as tense as before, but he had no problem stirring up trouble for them.

Naturally this knowledge was valuable, though not nearly as valuable as the info spoken of previously, which itself had lost some value, though was still plenty valuable.

Grant had explained that the land of Daxia would emerge eventually, but when it would emerge was still unknown. Soon could easily be decades if not centuries.

There was also the quiet fact that Grant could be lying, something the emperor was sure he wouldn't be able to verify.

After all, if it had remained hidden all this time, what made him think he could find it?

And as a fifth level, it wasn't surprising if this recluse master had found a hidden nation by chance.

"You really want nothing?" The emperor asked unsurely and Grant snorted. "What could the empire have that I could possibly want?" Grant said contemptuously. "The only reason I offer this info up is because I promised to teach him. You by virtue get the benefits. Make no mistake, all I'm sharing with you is public information. If you want their real tricks of the trade, that'll cost some money." Grant said, pinching his fingers together, yet the motion greatly relieved the emperor's concerns.

It's not that this master had no desires, merely that what he was teaching now held no real value to this master.

In some ways, those mysterious masters who claimed to want nothing were the most terrifying, as they either wanted something beyond money or just didn't care and did things according to their whim.

A master who had mortal desires for wealth were far less worrying.

Which Grant understood, hence his active expression of desires, and totally not just his desire to have money.

  Totally.

A few days later, a carriage arrived at the outpost, a carriage bearing a noble insignia, something rarely seen around these parts.

Nobles did not deign to grace such places with their presence, these rough outposts. The insignia was that of a roaring lion, it's head impaled by a spanish blade.

The insignia of the family of Leocartas.

Out stepped an older man in his mid 30s, with a clear resemblance to Grant's current body.

Phillip of the house Leocartas looked around, not with disgust, but with annoyance and with concern.

His brother had disappeared a few months ago, heading towards this outpost, yet had since disappeared, showing no trace of existence. He was gone.

Although the duchess of Rasta did not seem to care, this did not change the fact that their family became a bit distant from such a powerful figure, once a great warrior on the forefront, and now the current Duchess.

Of course, Phillip didn't care much about this. He never enjoyed the fact that his brother had been treated like a bargaining tool, a token man.

Their father clearly cared yet always showed such a cold expression in front of their own son. It was no surprise that Jonathan had left, at least not in his eyes.

Leonidas couldn't come back at the moment, having led an envoy to meet with a nearby nation to maintain relations, and was too far away to investigate.

"Where are you Jonathan?" He asked himself, his face covered with anxiety, concern that had come too late.

At this moment, Grant felt a small tugging in his mind, as if something connected to him had appeared.

  "System?"

[Your current body's brother has arrived, seeking to question you on your disappearance.]

Grant stopped, a conflicted look flashing in his eyes.

It wasn't surprising, as he hadn't really hidden his path that much, especially since he had just arrived in this world, acting loosely and without thought.

He hadn't thought about the original body's life, and had never planned to meet any of those people, ever.

They weren't cruel, just a bit indifferent.

If he were to meet them now, he wouldn't bother to lay it on them softly, instead brutally revealing the truth.

To some extent he wanted to leave them with a glimmer of hope, to hope that their son had left and made something of himself, a dream they could lavish in until the day they passed on, much like his own family dreamed of him.

And then they could meet him in Elysium, where Jonathan's soul currently resided.

All they had to do was wait.

But he was a noble now, and nobles don't just get to disappear.

And now they had come knocking on his door.

"Truly, cause and effect are inescapable." Grant sighed, before heading to face the family drama.
