Chapter 14 – Coffee, Boys, and Hidden Knives
The sun was warm on Kara’s skin as she stretched, her body humming with sor energy. She felt stronger every day. Marvel Earth’s sun was almost indulgent pared to home—like lounging under a heat mp built just for her. She flexed her fingers, feeling the raw power resting just beh her skin. If she wasn’t careful, she might actally punch through a building just opening a door. Not that it would bother her. She’d handled worse paperwork ba Metropolis.
The faint aroma of coffee drifted in from the kit. Kara grinned. Natasha was here. Again. Like clockwork.
Kara padded into the kit in her usual tank top and shorts, her tooma dispy. Natasha was leaning against the ter, coffee mug in one hand, a stack of S.H.I.E.L.D. reports iher. She looked like she belohere—because at this point, she practically lived here.
“You might as well move in,” Kara teased, grabbing an apple.
Natasha didn’t even look up. “Security protocol.”
Kara grinned. “Sure it is, wife.”
Natasha’s eyes flicked to her, but she didn’t deny it. That rogress.
It had bee their routine—domestifortable, charged with tensioher of them wao address. Not yet. Natasha would grumble about work, and Kara would tease her about being overprotective, but they both khe truth. Natasha liked being here. And Kara liked having her.
Her phone buzzed.
Gwen: “Coffee ter? My treat! <3”
Kara smiled. Gwen ersistent. Kara liked that. She was sweet—or at least, that was the act. Kara wasn’t fooled. She khe girl was dangerous uhat perfect smile. But she was hot, and she was obsessed with her. Kara wasn’t going to pin.
“Gwen wants to hang out,” Kara said, biting into her apple. “You ing?”
Natasha’s eyes narrowed slightly, but her face was ral. “Busy.”
Kara smirked. “Sure you are.”
Natasha said nothing, but Kara already knew what was going to happen.
Hours ter, Kara arrived at the coffee shop, expeg a one-oh Gwen. Instead, she walked into a social ambush.
Peter Parker. Harry Osborn. Mary Jason. And Gwen—radiant, smiling like she hadn’t orchestrated the whole thing.
Kara held back a ugh. Clever.
“Kara! Over here!” Gwen waved, her voice sugary sweet.
Kara sauntered over, radiating fidence. Peter nearly dropped his coffee. Harry stood a little straighter. MJ’s eyes widened slightly, taking in Kara’s toned figure.
“Didn’t know this was a group thing,” Kara said, sliding into a seat.
“Oh, it just kind of came together,” Gwen said, the picture of innoce. Liar.
Peter was sweating. Harry was charming. MJ was curious. And Kara? She was having the time of her life.
Harry leaned in, fshing his best smile. “So, Kara, what brings a goddess like you to New York?”
Kara raised an eyebrow. “Terrorizing the pigeons.”
Harry ughed. Gwen’s fiightened around her cup. Natasha robably plotting his murder from a rooftop somewhere.
Peter looked like he was about to pass out.
Kara’s super-senses picked up his elevated heart rate, his nervous twitches. He thought she didn’t know. It was adorable. She could see his suit under his clothes with her X-ray vision. She could hear his breath catch every time she made eye tact. She decided to have a little fun.
“You know, Pete,” she said casually. “That red-and-blue getup you wear… bold choice.”
Peter froze. His face drained of color.
“Wh-what?” His voice cracked.
Kara smiled sweetly. “Just saying. You seem like a guy with style. Ever think of ging it up?”
Peter’s eyes darted around like he nning an escape. Gatg him closely. Harry was oblivious. MJ ughed, thinking it was a normal joke.
Kara sipped her coffee, satisfied.
Moments ter, Natasha appeared. Because of course she did.
“Oh,” Kara said, barely holding back her grin. “What are the odds?”
Natasha’s face was the definition of fake casual. “Thought I’d grab something to go.”
She sat o Kara.
Gwen’s smile didn’t waver, but Kara felt the spike in tension. Natasha’s body nguage shifted—subtle but protective. Gwen adjusted her posture, leaning a little closer to Kara.
Harry notione of it. Peter noticed everything and wao die.
Kara basked in the chaos. She could practically see the rivalry f—like wolves cirg each other over a prize. She was the prize. And she was loving it.
As they chatted, Kara’s super-hearing picked up Norman Osborn’s voice. He was in his office, arguing with himself. The Goblin was getting louder, more demanding.
“They want you gone, Norman. Show them fear. KILL THEM.”
Kara stirred her coffee.
He’s really losing it.
She could fly over there and end him in a heartbeat. Burn him to ash with a gnce. But why would she? This was better. Watg him spiral, lettier have his hero arc—it was like live theater. Low stakes. Fun.
She tuned bato the versation.
Harry was ying it on thick. pliments. Jokes. Charm. Kara humored him, but she felt Natasha’s subtle shift—like a lioness preparing to pounce. Gwen’s smile was strained. Venom whispered threats in her mind.
MJ ig up on the vibe now. She gnced between the women, curious but fused. Peter looked like he wao climb out the window.
TheV behind the ter bred to life. J. Jonah Jameson’s voice.
“SUPERGIRL: THREAT OR MENACE? IS THIS BLONDE ALIEO SAVE US OR DESTROY OUR COFFEE SHOPS?”
Kara nearly spat out her drink.
Harry ughed. “Guy’s insane.”
Natasha scowled. Gwen tilted her head, calg.
Kara wiped her mouth, grinning. “Oh, this is cssic. Bae, my cousin worked in media. trolled it, actually. That’s how you hahese guys. You own the narrative.”
Natasha’s eyes lit up like she’d been given state secrets. Gwen filed it away like a oer tried to disappear into his seat.
Kara leaned back, satisfied.
By the time they left, Peter was a nervous wreck. Harry was smug. MJ was intrigued. Gwen was ging tighter. Natasha was on edge.
And Kara? She was amused.
Later that night, Gwen y on her bed, Venom murmuring about threats. She whispered back, “She’s ours.”
Natasha sat in her room, scrolling through Harry Osborn’s file. Just in case.
Wanda stood on a rooftop, watg Kara’s window.
Kara y in bed, staring at the ceiling.
This is gonna be fun.
She closed her eyes, smiling.
Marvel Earth erfect. And its womehe best.
