Is this it?

Is this my entire life? Sitting here in class, listening to the teacher drone on about algorithms and drawing things on the whiteboard, all while I play with my pencil. Bored out of my mind and staring off into nothingness. My mind filled with nothing more than the desire to leave this classroom and get home. I have no interest in my classes, I only do this to hopefully make my parents proud. They see me as lazy compared to my brother. Was I really that lazy? I just find everything so boring. How can I be productive if I haven't found anything that grabbed my interest?

The teacher wasn't paying attention to me, which is great as I haven't been paying attention this entire time. I start to doodle in my notebook to make it look like I'm taking notes. I need a nap when I get home, the boredom is settling into my bones. I let out a sigh of relief as the teacher finally released class. I have no friends here, all of them back home, so getting up with my things and leaving is an easy task. I can't hurry fast enough to my car, an old beater but it was able to get me from point a to point b, and I throw my stuff into the back before settling into the driver's seat. Just have to keep my eyes open until I get home. I can do this. My apartment is right around the corner.

Driving was a nightmare as I struggle to keep my eyes open for the duration. Thinking back on that short drive, I probably looked drunk to the others on the road. I lay my head back and stare at the ceiling of my car for a moment before I finally get up and go inside, leaving my bag in the car for now. Entering my ground floor apartment, I lock the door behind me and saunter back to my bedroom where I face plant my pillow. Just when I started to doze into the wonderful dreamland, my email chimes at me from my desktop on the other side of the room. I groan, one that turns into a slight cry at the end, before shoving myself painfully from the bed. I drag my feet to the computer and wake the screen to see the annoying flash of my email notification on the bottom of the screen. I open it and am surprised to see an email from my brother, i open it to see a link with a note attached.

Hey sis, I saw this game in an ad while scrolling on one of my apps. It looks like a game you would really enjoy. Tell me how it is! Love you, Hericome

I sigh, a little smile finding its way to my lips. I click the link to see the cover picture of a beautiful looking RPG. It definitely looks like the style of game I enjoy. It's a free download so I click it. Three hours!? Looks like its back to bed for me. I'll play it later. I doubt I can stay up any later right now. Even though it was only one in the afternoon. I allow the download to go and turn the monitor off before I crawl happily back into bed, curled under my plush comforter. It didn't take long for the drowsiness to take me over.

"M' Lady! M' Lady! Wake up Please! We must hurry! The town is under attack!" A female voice yells nearby. I feel someone shaking my shoulders. But I live alone, how could there be someone shaking me?

I blink the sleep from my eyes to see a young girl looking frightened as she tries to wake me. She's dressed like she's from the medieval times, but it's off somehow. A mix with something else I'm having issues determining. I squint at her, "Who- Wha-?" I start to ask before she interrupts me.

"Please! They're coming!" She says panicked. Some type of instinct takes over as I see a sword in the corner of the room and hear banging on a nearby door. I didn't have time to think about what was going on yet, something urgent is happening right now and it isn't waiting for me to figure it out.

I rush for the sword in the corner and dive back toward the door, "Stay behind me. I'll get us out of here." I say determined. She nods and quickly falls behind me. I kick at the door, expecting it to fall down but alas it does not. I sigh heavily before flinging it open by hand. A couple guys in chain mail had just burst into the house. I don't even have time to see where I am. I know I'm not in my apartment anymore though.

The men rush forward, swinging their swords at me without hesitation. I raise my sword and block one attack and attempt to move from the other's reach. The tip of their sword grazing my shoulder. I hiss in pain before swinging my sword with both hands gripping the hilt tightly. I broke some of the mail and draw blood from their side but quickly have to roll out of the way of another incoming attack. I smirk as I managed to avoid it. I quickly strike again and the first man falls heavily. Why does this feel like a tutorial? I feel like they're holding back. I've never lifted a sword in my life but my muscles feel like they've been doing this for years. I parry another attack before striking and killing the second guy.

  Level Up!

A notification lights up above me. Um what? Level up? Like a game? I stare at it a moment before reaching forward and touching it. My eyes widen as a full menu pulls up. Stamina, Mana, or Health. I get to choose? Mana? As in magic? I think I'll choose Health for now. I touch it and a warm energy flows up from my feet to the tip of my head. Now I have the option to put a skill point into a skill tree. This really is like a game. I'm still in shock as I look it all over. From the icons it looks like there's a magic tree, a weapons tree, and a defense tree. I decide to put my first point into the defense tree, a perk that boosts my natural defense by ten percent for the first two hits in battle.

I'm lost. Am I really in a video game or is this simply a dream? Maybe I should just go along with it. If I think too hard on it right now I won't be able to enjoy it. But if it is real-- Do I even want to go back?
