chapter 20

  {The adventurer team (the ones entering the 2nd floor)}

“I think we have enough training done to get down the cliff now, don’t you think Brindan?” a middle aged human said to a dwarf.

“I agree, you three have learned now how to climb with many equipment, and I have gotten a great refreshment on climbing again.”

The elf and the halfling of the party are both extremely tired. The elf is laying on the ground out of exhaustion.

“I.. will.. take.. a.. break..” the elf says.

“Hehe, we will go to the dungeon in two days’ time. So be prepared by then, and well rested.” The human Luis says, while picking up his climbing gear.

The elf Valeria and the halfling Thornfoot get up very slowly, still suffering form the 5 hour long climbing session. Luis and Brindan help their party members to Mountain-climb the outpost in the mountains.

  {two days later in the dungeon}

The now very wet party climbing down the cliff.

“Why does this dungeon have a giant cliff with near constant rain! I hate this place.” A very wet Valeria says while hanging off a rope. Luis below her who also is currently hanging off the rope.

“At least the rain is very warm, like a shower.”

Brindan who below Luis metal holds is digging.

“Compared to the mines were getting wet means hypothermia, without special traits or evolution. This rain is pretty good.” The dwarf strikes the cliff setting a new climbing point. “Only the air is a bit toxic, normally this would be the case of bat air, but the air is breathable.”

  Thornfoot above Valeria.

“Can you guys speed up! Some firebeetles are getting very close to us.”

Brindan sped up his pace, even while knowing that the bug wouldn’t attack unprovoked. While the party was creating a way down on the last part of the cliff, they saw something fall. In the waterfall a body or adventurer was falling down.

“Was that a adventurer? Mad if I says so.” Luis looked with disbelief to the falling body.

“I have heard that you get an achievement for it, if you live.” Thornfoot said as he was slowly going down, in fear of the firebeetles.

“I would belief you, but I am not going to jump down. There are leeches and those rainbow amphibians in the water.”

The party made it with no problem down the cliff, only a bit tired at best. They found an abandoned camping spot in the roots of the rootgrove. They stayed there for the night, for there was minimal danger high up the roots. The amphibians can’t climb that well and the leeches well those are leeches.

Brindan and Luis heard that the large leeches good tasted, so he and Luis tricked Valeria so that she attracted a leech. Before the leech could attach itself to Valeria Brindan grabbed the leech, and put it into his stove. Veleria wasn’t happy that they tricked her and even more for saying that the leech is delicious. Luis and Brindan were both happily eating the large leech.

Valeria and Thornfoot ate their rations while looking disgusted at the two eating the leech.

“Why are you two eating something so disgusting, so so slimy and filled with blood.” Valeria shudders and quickly averted her eyes to her now not so dry, dry food.

“It tastes like eel, but a bit more tough. The next time either longer in the stove or grilling it to soften it up.” Brindan says while Luis is nodding his head while his mouth was filled with stoved leech.

Thornfoot turned his head and puked. Brindan an Luis began laughing slowly followed by Valeria and the sickly thornfoot.

After a nights rest they went onwards again. Quickly passing the rootgrove forest and entering the marshy region past that. With only some minor accidents, with it mostly being Brindan falling trough the plant layer of the marsh. They entered the ironwood forest.

“Have you ever seen a tree that big before, how big do you guys think it is.” Luis said as he was looking up to the giant ironwood trees.

“The tree of life in the elven capital is I think 2 or 3 times bigger than these.” Veleria looked up the trees thinking of how big these were compared to the tree of life.

Brindan was not looking at the big trees, but looking at the metal-flowers growing inside the forest.

“Those are metal-flowers! I have not seen this many grow in an area, and I have never seen metal-flowers at this size.”

Brindan carefully walks to the closest metal-flower, and grabs one bar of iron ore. He then peels the little layer of clear organic matter off the bar. Then he inspects the purity of it with a device.

The author's tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

“99,5% pure iron, and the last 0,5% is carbon and other detritus. This is a very good non-magical steel!” The dwarf inspects the iron bar even more.

“Each bar weighs over 25 kilograms and is around 5 by 5 by 13 centimeters big. Sadly it will be difficult to bring back.” The dwarf sadly drops the iron bar next to the flower.

The iron bar after a few minutes of inspecting had already formed a thin layer of rust on the outside of the bar. After that the party went inside the ironwood forest. Not much blocked their path other than a few badgers.

From the left of the party a group of 2 badgers came barreling to them. Luis and Brindan prepared their defenses and Valeria prepared her magic. Thornfoot on the other hand slipped into the ferns preparing an ambush.

Luis got knocked away when the charging iron badger hit his shield, luckily he wasn’t knocked on the ground. Brindan with his sturdier frame deflected the charging iron badger, letting him hit the badger with his mace. The hit didn’t do much for the badgers skin was too tough.

The badger that knocked Luis away now looked to Valeria, preparing to go smack her. Before the badger began moving toward her, she casted animal dominance. The badger stunned by the effect tried to fight the effect of the spell. Unfortunately for the badger the caster was a second evolution party, so the badger dominated.

Valeria told the now “friendly” badger to fight the other badger. With now the party freed and a helpful animal companion, they beat the badger in 8 minutes. The badger fought with its last breath even when 2 legs were broken. Then the party trapped the dominated badger to kill it easier.

“That was a tough fight, luckily the badgers are slow. A kiting technique will be good enough to just slowly kill them.” Brindal said while butchering the killed iron badger.

After a few fights they rested at the edge of the forest near the mana algae. They all are the killed iron badger. Unfortunately the badger was even tough after death, so Brindan made a soup that boiled the meat for 4 hours. Only after 4 hours was the meat edible, and not a piece of wood.

They passed the mana algae pools quickly. Nothing stopped them and nobody fell in. They then arrived at the whispering fields.

Thornfoot puts on a mask “Ok, every one wear your mask. Nobody but us and the admirals team made it this far. It is unknown at which evolution you become immune of the flowers effect.”

The party followed his advice, after donning the mask they went inside the field. Valeria casted a spell to see heat and Thornfoot looked through the flowers. Luis and Brindan could only raise their shield in preparation for attacks.

Thornfoot looked to his left and shouted “Raptors from the left.”

The party quickly prepared for confrontation, but the raptors quickly left after the shouting.

Valeria looking around with heat vision. “They left, as soon as you shouted Thornfoot.”

“Sneaky bastards, fleeing immediately if they don’t have the advantage.”

The party was almost attacked for another 6 times but the raptors fled every time. Making the entire party paranoid. Only when they were almost out of the field did the raptors really attack. 4 raptors rand around the party. 1 raptor was shot by Valeria, who shot a rock-spear. The raptor did not die but was quickly killed by a stab from Thornfoot. Luis and Brindan tried to attack the other raptors, but weren’t successful.

Only after a bit of support with magic did they manage to kill 2 other raptors. The last raptor fled. Valeria did get hurt by the raptors. A nasty gash on her left leg, the gash being 30 centimeters long. She casted after the battle some healing magic, weak healing magic. Enough to stem the bleeding.

After they left the field they saw a pit, the pit where the boss fight is. They rested for a hour and healed Valeria’s leg. After which they entered the arena, going to the altar. After reading the description Luis volunteered to give his blood.

The drop of blood dripped on the altar, immediately the pit started to fill with steam. The staircase started to rise, sealing the party inside. In the steam 3 raptors were created, after the three were created the steam dissipated. Revealing the three raptors to the party.

Luis and Brindan quickly position themselves in front of Valeria and Thornfoot to block the raptors from flanking them. The Big raptor charged the fighter and tank trying to break trough the shields. Luis prepared his sword so that the raptor would impale itself. The raptor tried to shift the charge to Brindan, but only succeeded partially. Even now after being stabbed the big raptor still pushed Brindan a bit back.

Seeing this the other two raptors tried used the small gap to attack Valeria. In return Valeria casted a spell that made the ground around the two raptor very slippery, causing both to fall and slide on the greased floor. when they stopped sliding at the end of the grease field Thornfoot stabbed one in the neck killing it.

While that raptor was stabbed the other raptor quickly got up and quickly repositioned itself with the big raptor. The party once again formed a formation to prevent flanking attacks.

Valeria casted fireburst hitting both the raptors. With the enhancement of the air is killed the already wounded big raptor. The spell burst into small explosions, but with the enhancement the explosions got big and went further than normal hitting Brindan in the shield.

“Hey, watch out if you are going to cast explosive spells this close. Your spell could have hit me!” Brindan said while focusing the last raptor.

Valeria just looked at Brindan with an innocent face.

Then after a bit of shuffling around Thornfoot killed the last raptor, finishing the boss fight. After the last one was killed a metal pan and a metal chestpiece was created on the altar. When Brindan removed the metal wok a large piece of leather was found. They didn’t know what for leather it was, but they did bring it with them.

The gate and staircase opened giving the party the ability to go back or go deeper. Of course they went deeper. When they entered the gates they saw a big staircase leading down, Thornfoot saw a half tube filled with flowing water with a sign above it. The sign saying that it was save to slide down.

Thornfoot happily said “Look, the sign says that is save to go down this slide! Shall we use it?”

Valeria looking at the slide and then Thornfoot “one, the slide is wet making us dry everything. Two, we don’t know if it is actually save.”

Thornfoot looked disappointed that he can’t slide down the slide.

  {5 hours late}

  “Why… did… the.. dungeon… make… A GIANT STAIRCASE!” Luis said angrily.

Brindan just lays on the ground potentially sleeping.

“It is not that bad, it is around the length of going down the tree of life.” Valeria said with no speck of exhaustion.

Thornfoot still look disappointed for not being allowed to slide down “It would have saved so much time if we just slid down the slide.”

  Title unlocked

  Dungeon explorer l:

You gain 1% more EXP while in a dungeon

All four were surprised, they didn’t know that this existed. The amount of dungeons is low so most adventurers never entered a dungeon or deep enough to get this achievement.

“Well this is a welcome surprise. Extra Exp while in a dungeon, and I think it scales with how deep we go.” Luis said with a investigative face.
