Chapter 543

The world shuddered as immense changes rocked the structure of the Hells. The land around Jonathan whited out, the horizon rushing in as Cessation and the Labyrinth vanished. He found himself standing in the fields of the Great Farm, watching the battle between his allies and the undead army play out. He noticed something else. His quest rewards had been upgraded to match the level of the Circle Lords that had granted them. That would be very useful going forward.

  You have upgraded a Title!(x2)

  Fourth Circle Breaker: Unique

You are the only being to ever have completed even the smallest part of the Hellbreaker quest. Such a feat deserves a requisite reward. Every subsequent Circle Lord defeated will grant additional multipliers.

  Bonuses: +20% to all stats.

In between messages, the hordes of undead were whittled down by great blasts of flame, air and sometimes, both. Without their leader, the monsters had reverted to their instincts, fighting in loose clumps rather than as an army. About half of them had met their end, lying in piles of loose bones and seared flesh. Jonathan could see the way the battle was going, so he left his friends to work, continuing to read through his notifications.

  Hellbreaker: Impossible

You have been imprisoned in the Infinite Hells, a world that certainly lives up to its name. However, there is a way out, if not one that anyone has ever reached before. You must descend through the circles of hell, and kill each one’s guardian to progress. Finally, you must reach the very center and kill the Devil himself. This, however, is a long road, one that will take an eon. That is, of course, if you do not die along the way. Against all odds, you actually succeeded in the first part of your quest, killing Granath, Overseer of the Ash Heaps. Continuing in your burgeoning legend, Slothari, Ooze Queen of Mire has also fallen to you, as well as the Stillborn Hegemon and Ashokan. However there are still 95 more Circle Lords to go.

Current Objective: Defeat The Great Farmer

Rewards: Fieldstrider(Tier 7 Armor Upgrade), Earthraker(Tier 7 Weapon Upgrade), Cultivation Signet(Tier 7 Item), a Unique Title upgrade, rule over the Great Farm, and access to the next realm.

Ultimate Objective: Defeat Angranor, The Lord of Hell

  Rewards: Freedom, ???

There was only one more thing to do before he joined the fray. Check his stats. Then he felt a sudden unease, as his enhanced mind made a disconcerting conclusion. His Strength stat was about to pass the third Threshold.

Jonathan delayed the ceremony, wanting to make sure that he was safe first. His normal resource pools were tapped out, but his Void energy, and by extension his Divinity, were still abundant. As he ran, Jonathan realized something interesting. The further he progressed, the less useful his mana, health and stamina regeneration would be. They functioned based on objective time, with a small boost from thresholds. His speed would eventually make it so that battles would end in milliseconds, or even less, with entire exchanges of attacks happening within that time. He could easily burn a hundred thousand mana points in an instant, but it would take a lot longer to regenerate them.

Jonathan sliced through the still air, each movement like a knife through the world. His feet left burning imprints in the ground, even before he finalized his Threshold. All of his stats were rapidly approaching the ten thousand point part. It was a truly immense level of power, one that made him feel like he were a god made flesh. Which, to be fair, he was.

Smite was now permanently active, filling his entire being with enough power to shift mountains and boil oceans. Jonathan roared, a wake of the Void following him, waves of purest purple dancing across the ground. Troughs of the nadir itself emanated between those waves, and where they touched, existence itself died. The air ceased to be, the ground vanished. He was too strong. He was unstoppable-

Just before Jonathan reached his friends, the air in front of him blackened. A starry disc of what looked like the night sky irised open before him, faster than he could blink. He couldn’t move in time. With a sudden whoosh, he vanished from the Greater Circle of Sloth.
