In any case, slaughtering the Hul-thu catalyzed everyone’s leveling. Jonathan was still ahead, as he sought out the most powerful foes, but most of the others were close behind.
“Jonathan?” a female voice called out across the land.
Jonathan smiled, and headed towards it. Over the last year, his relationship with Eliza had progressed slowly but steadily. They had decided to take it slow, given how much longer they had to live. If worst came to worst, they could all simply retreat back to Jonathan’s private realm and live out the rest of their days there. At Tier 6 and 7, they had millenia to live.
He reached Eliza a few seconds later. She stood on top of a small hill, her sword still dripping with monster blood. The bisected corpse of a dragonoid creature lay beside her, about twenty feet long. It had stood on two legs in life, but now it was simply a pile of flesh. Upon seeing Jonathan, Eliza quickly cleansed her blade with the fires of her Divinity.
Jonathan paused before her, smiling. “I’m finally ready. Tier 7.”
Eliza grinned back, and rather than answer, simply leaned in for a kiss. Jonathan gladly returned the gesture.
About half an hour later, Jonathan and everyone else that had come with him stood waiting. Waiting to return to the Hells. Only Arkanon was missing, as he, the possessor of another Tartarus token, was in charge of training the Tier 5s and below. About a month in, he had discovered that as long as he still maintained contact with the token while another held it, he could be taken to lower Tier realms of Tartarus.
Normally this would be a recipe for disaster, but with the aid of Jonathan’s runic arrays, Arkanon was more than capable of surviving in a lower Tier of mana.Jonathan could access realms of power that nobody else had access too, and the structure of the Hells was clearly designed to limit the amount of power that one could amass before a certain point.
“One year ago, Angranor turned the Hells upside down,” Jonathan began. “One year ago, we were driven from our quest, not because of our own designs, but because we were simply too weak.” His fists clenched. “Well, no longer! The Circle Lords will bow before us now!”
“Damn straight!” Eliza shouted a moment later. The others made similar gestures, but it was clear that their hearts were set on something else. Returning to the Hells. Returning to war.

Jonathan grinned. “You’re all itching for a chance to sink your blades into the flesh of the Hells. Well, I won’t stop you any longer.” He snapped his fingers and the dimensional portal appeared. It was faster to simply go from Tartarus to the Greater Circle of Sloth. The portal would only work one way, but considering that he had his Tartarus token, it didn’t really matter.
One by one, the rest of his party raced through. Just before he entered, Jonathan opened his stats. He had a lot of free points to distribute.
