Hey Diary,
We left Mouse today! Driving a wagon with two horses requires a lot more focus than driving a wagon with just one. Sure, Trusty and True are good horses, but they had to test me to see if I was worthy of their respect. Keeping them in line kinda took a lot of mental energy.
But they stopped doing dumb and alarming things about halfway through the afternoon, so I’m hoping they’ve decided to listen to me. Sure, I could just charm them into being perfectly docile horses, but that would be rude. And I’m kinda worried about what side-effects that might have.
Besides, it’s not like I don't know how to handle horses. I just had to pass their test. Which was easy.
Anyways, we passed two towns and stopped for the night in the third. We had mail to deliver to all of the towns, and orders for how to handle big earthquakes. And my job, officially, is to tell animals that earthquakes are just things that happen, and not to worry.
The first town, I was super nervous, but I managed it. All the animals in the town and town’s vicinity know earthquakes are about as scary as rain now.
The second town, I wasn't as nervous, and I went quicker. I’m pretty sure I caught a baby in the spell, tho. A baby neko. Someone’s infant. I’d apologize, but I think it’s better to just let the parents think their baby is just naturally super unconcerned about the ground shaking.
The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
Besides, the charm will wear off in… math… Under a year for sure. Between like six months and a year. So by the time the kit starts to talk, they’ll be charm-free.
Anyways, in this town I went a little slower, and double-checked that the minds I was touching were animals.
I told all the animals that when an earthquake happens, just sit or lie down and wait for it to be over, no worries. I know some animals might get hurt from staying where they are, but a lot more would get hurt if they all ran around in a panic.
Maybe I should add an “unless” to the charm order. Like, “unless something is about to fall on you, then get out of the way”. But… Gaah, I don't know. This is complicated. I’ll just leave it as it is. Usually self-preservation can override charm magic in animals.
With normal charm magic, at least. Maybe not with four-digit charm magic.
Oh, Echo told me to not let anyone know my level. If anyone asks, I have to say it’s under a hundred. Otherwise people might think I’m a danger to the world and try to kill me.
I don't think that would happen. I mean, if anyone tries to imprison me, I can just tell them they don't know who I am, and I’ll be fine.
But there’s ways around it. There’s anti-magic handcuffs, and jewelry to stop people from being charmed, and simple indirect attacks. Like, no they couldn't get me in jail, but they could probably jail Maeve, and then say either she lives there forever or I turn myself in.
So yeah, I have to be careful about that now. I can't let any strangers touch me, just in case they have an ability that lets them see stats. Which means no more handshakes for me.
At least I don't have to be afraid of animals touching me. Animals are way less complicated than people.
Anyways, I should get some sleep.
Signing off,
