108 - Traveling - Maeve

  Dear Risa,

Remember how I said a while back that the runes we know about aren’t all the runes which exist? Well, someone in Eaton found a new rune. They figured out how to copy the inventory we get with our classes, and changed it so anything can go in there, not just a handful of random class-related things. Then they made a permanently open portal, and made the space bigger, and added a bunch of boring other things to it, and livable pocket dimensions are a thing now!

Luke says there is no way anyone will die from spending a lot of time in one, and I trust him. Sooo he’s making one for us! And then he’ll make another one for Echo.

Cali said she needs to sleep near the horses, so she doesn’t want one. And Maki… will probably end up sharing Echo’s room. He says he has to guard the wagon, but I give it a week before he decides Cali is perfectly capable of guarding it by herself.

These spaces aren’t full houses. There are limitations. Like, at the moment there’s no way to put a bathroom in one of these rooms. And kitchens would be extremely dangerous. Also, no windows or sounds from outside, which could be a security risk (as Maki pointed out). All that combines into it being impossible to fully live in one of these things. But as a bedroom? They’re perfect.

I’m excited to see how these spaces will grow and evolve. I kinda wish I could peek five years into the future, just to see what these spaces are capable of.

Echo says everyone and their cousin is going to become a Runesmith now. From here on out, that class is going to be one of the more important ones in society. Sure, it was already important, but in a… only-noticed-when-something-breaks way. That has changed.

My boyfriend now has one of the most sought-after classes. Allow me a moment to be smug about that.

Oh, “Eaton” is pronounced “eeeee-nnn”. Like all the other letters don’t exist. My bafflement and frustration over place names continues. We’re on our way to the nice, normally-named city of Mlem.

I actually wouldn’t mind it if I were from Mlem. It’s better than, like, Mouse. Or eeeeeee’nnnnnn. Or Innsnose. Goldvale is, naturally, the best name. And the Goldvale University is, naturally, the best university in the world.

But if I couldn’t claim Goldvale, I’d ask if Mlem was available.

Well, I haven’t seen the city yet. Maybe I should hold off on saying it’s a great place until I can verify that with my own two eyes. Sure, I won’t be seeing it at its best, what with a series of world-ending earthquakes having flattened it last week, but I’ll still be able to feel the vibe or whatever.

Luke just got back. We’re in the town of Pepper tonight, and he left to give the local Runesmith the list of runes which make pocket dimensions. While there, he picked up a few mana stones and an old iron barrel band. By tomorrow we should have our own personal pocket dimension!

I’ll have to make sure it’s properly decorated before we get to Goldvale and you demand to see it.

Which means I need to plan.

  Planning Regards,

  Maeve Zee
