A droning ring went off inside the Indigo Plateau champion's office, and a sneer of annoyance surfaced on Lance's face as he retreated from his mountain of paperwork and took the handset of his office's telephone.
A secretary answered tersly, “I’m sorry Sir, an alarm has escalated throughout the chain of command up to the Indigo Plateau.”
“What is the emergency?” Lance cut through the chatter instantly, hoping to clear the chaos up as quickly as possible and get back to his paperwork.
Rapid-fire taps of a keyboard could be heard as she answered, “A powerful wild Pokemon, which was transferred to the local Pokemon Center at the Pokemon League Reception gate for healing by a group of rangers, is currently attacking the Center in retaliation.”
Champion Lance massaged the bridge of his nose in consternation, he sucked back a sigh to save his image, “Thank you for the information. Do you know what kind of Pokemon it is?”
Through the speaker of his handset, more clacks could be heard before the secretary answered, “It looks to be a…Tyranitar?”
Lance's thoughts halted for a second, and he spoke honestly, “A Tyranitar?”
“Correct, sir.” She answered again, “Do you want me to connect you to the Ranger Union headquarters that sounded the alarm? They know more about the situation.”
With his interest piqued, Lance answered, “Please do.”
“Alright, please hold-” The receptionist was cut off before she could get all the words out, and the droning of an on-hold message assaulted the phone line, “Welcome to the Rangers Union of Kanto! Your call will be connected shortly. Please hold the line.”
The dinky, low-quality on-hold music assaulted Lance's ear as he tapped his foot impatiently. He grabbed a pen as he fought back another incoming groan at the sheer inconvenience of the entire situation, ‘We really need to make them add our number to their priority line…I swear to creation, if this doesn’t connect soon, I will send Bruno down to the reception personally…’
He grabbed the mouse for his computer and looked through the files as the same welcoming message replayed. Leafing through the multitude of folders, he found some files on the Pseudo-Legendary Pokemon.
‘A Tyranitar…Those are exclusively found near Mt. Silver…’ Lance knew about the Pokemon, recalling all of their characteristics in a heartbeat as he spun the pen in his hand. He pressed the handset against his head using his shoulder, while using the mouse with the other hand, ‘Exceedingly rare…Wonder how they got one into the Center…’
‘There…’ He finally found what he had been looking for just as the call connected.
“I am sorry for the delay, who am I speaking to?” the voice of the Kanto Head of the Rangers Union came through the handset. Lance had talked to the man before, but he still felt the need to waltz around with his influence a bit. “This is Champion Lance speaking. An alarm escalated through the chain of command, and I am here to inquire about more details regarding the situation.”
“Ah, yes. A pleasure to talk with you again, dear Champion!” The Leader of the Kanto Pokemon Union, Commander Minami, was a lively man, he was a man who had worked his way up only recently, throwing himself into the work with extreme fervor. He had shown himself to be an exceedingly competent ranger, unlike his predecessor. “Yes, I escalated the problem up to you in the hopes that you’d find someone who could put up a fight against a wild Alpha Tyranitar.”
“An Alpha Tyranitar?” Lance laid down the pen, grabbing his handset properly again, “How did someone manage to get a wild Alpha Tyranitar to the League Reception Pokemon Center?” While it was the closest Center to Mt. Silver, it still wasn’t terribly close in that regard. “Did an Ace Trainer manage to catch it, only to lose control of it?”
The rustling of paper could be heard over the phone as the Commander continued, “Well, no…It apparently had to do with the incident at Mt. Silver recently…”
…
She had become the new queen of the mountain, it had cost her her remaining family, but that wasn’t of concern to her anymore. Her family was about to become bigger after all. She had finally laid an egg, and after burying the thing in a safe spot, was now simply waiting for the round thing to hatch so she’d finally have a child of her own to raise.
This novel's true home is a different platform. Support the author by finding it there.
It had taken her such a long time to find a mate she’d been comfortable around. Her isolated nature and the lack of other Tyranitar nearby made the effort that much harder. The experience had forced her to find new parts of herself, and she had left the mountain she’d been born in for the first time in her life.
New Pokemon, new places, and new experiences were around every corner, from the human trainers she’d found skulking about at the base of the mountain to the other Alphas occupying the wilderness behind it, it felt like she had explored far enough for her lifetime. Now it was time for her to settle down.
‘I wonder, will it be a boy or a girl…’ She mused to herself, the thought alone giving her an exciting feeling in her stomach as her giant tail wagged behind her, as the dream faded again.
…
Waking up to another dream, Tyranitars' mind was hazy with rage as the darkness expanded to the stark and freezing white of the mountaintop. She rushed down the side of the mountain as fast as her feet would take her in her chase. She couldn’t remember their faces, they weren’t important after all. The only thing that mattered was what those trainers had done.
They had taken her child with them, running away like cowards from her unyielding wrath.
Tyranitar could remember it so clearly, the white hot rage she felt in that moment and the earthquakes, sandstorms and landslides she’d conjured in an attempt to stop the conniving duo of humans in their attempt, only to be thwarted time and time again until the pair managed mount a bird Pokemon they’d trained, flying away into the horizon on the accursed creature.
She still wanted to chase after the pair, rush down the mountain in a hateful rampage, destroying everything in her path, but she’d already expended herself far too much to do that.
So she cried and wailed at the loss of her child instead. She mourned for her kid, for what had happened to it and what would happen to it in the future. Even in this seemingly simple memory, the anguish seemed to injure her physically, wracking her body in every which way with the worst pain she’d ever imagined. The pain of failing as a parent.
It felt even worse than the pain she’d felt while fighting the legendary Pokemon, because no death or unconsciousness would save her, the nightmares which cursed her conscience afterwards were unspeakable. Her worst fear had come to pass, an enemy had appeared that couldn’t be beaten in a straight-up fight.
Even this memory of the event made her uncomfortable, although she was gifted in physical prowess, she didn’t have the mental fortitude.
The only thing giving her some piece of solace was the fact that she knew this would end sooner rather than later, the depressed hours of crying to herself in the depths of the mountain didn’t last forever. Eventually, she managed to pick herself back up, not by any of her own merits, though. As her strict father's experiences surfaced in her mind at just the sheer mention of weakness.
She had to be strong, it was her purpose after all.
No matter how much she wanted to scream out in frustration at the sheer thought of her oppressive father, she knew his teachings were what allowed her to get back on her feet. Yet at the same time, she also realized the folly in her own actions.
After all, she had killed her father in protest, hoping to build a safer and happier environment for herself and all of the inhabitants of the mountain. Tyranitar laughed to herself bitterly at the logical fallacy of her own morals.
Whatever the matter was, she journeyed away from the mountain again, looking for a mate, she was going to nurture a child, even if it killed her. It was her calling after all.
…
Bruno had his feet up, his arms hanging behind his head as he stared up at the ceiling with a bored expression. The off-season was the worst time for the Elite Four. Bruno's passion was training, but one can only train so many hours of the day without slowly killing oneself.
‘...And today is a rest day anyway…’ Hitmonlee sat across from him at his table inside his abode on the Indigo Plateau. In Hitmonlee’s mouth was a high-protein fighting-type Pokechow bar, while Bruno himself snacked away at a Rage Candy Bar himself, entirely hands-free.
BRRRINNG!
Suddenly, his phone rang. The sudden noise almost made Bruno choke on his Manju Candy, and the fact that he almost choked made him lose his balance as gravity suddenly took hold, pulling his already rocked chair backwards and into freefall.
“MMRGH!” Screaming through his candy-filled mouth, Machoke grabbed the back of his chair just before he could hit the ground.
Bruno finally pulled the piece of Manju out of his mouth as he rose from his chair with a thankful nod to Machamp. He answered the phone, “Bruno here, Lance?”
“Bruno, finally, you answered.” The Champion sounded cool and calm, but Bruno knew his quirks and already knew to assume that he was wading through a roomful of paperwork right now. The Dragon Tamer was always working himself to the bone for his company. “I know this was your rest day, but unfortunately, an emergency came up and I’d like to have you there for security.”
Setting down his Manju in the box, Bruno answered, “What kind of emergency would need my presence?”
“A wild Alpha Tyranitar receiving treatment at the League Reception Center is wreaking havoc after unexpectedly waking up. Rangers are already converging on the location, and they’d like to have someone there who might be able to contain the Rock and Dark-Type.”
Bruno quirked a big, bushy brow at the circumstances of the emergency, “How did a wild Alpha Tyranitar manage to get admitted into the Center?”
“The circumstances are quite confusing,” Lance spoke, exasperation hidden well in his voice, “You will find them out when you get there, for now, please use one of our Psychics to get to the reception town as fast as possible and receive the group of rangers there.”
“Understood.” He ended the call and roused his team with a clap, “Alright, folks! It might be unexpected, but we’re on duty!”
