Chapter 74

Valerie left the Center with Larvitars' mom recalled back into her Pokeball, the fearsome Pokemon had passed out the second she had introduced herself, collapsing onto her back with a loud crash, much to Larvitars' worry.

Her Pokemon found Tyranitar's Pokeball rolling along the ground and immediately urged her to recall her. With how injured she was, Valerie recalled her quickly and then made her way out of the Center with her Pokemon.

‘She must’ve been far too injured to be awake…’ Valerie thought to herself as she crouched underneath a line of police tape set up around a perimeter of the Center. Looking down at Larvitar, she tried to reassure her Pokemon, he had a concerned expression on her face, “Let’s get your mother to Nurse Joy, she’ll be able to help her out.”

“Larvi-tar!” It cried back with a nod, already pointing to the crowd in the distance. Looking over with a squint, Valerie found a group of Nurses hovering over the mass of Pokeball carts, still watching over the Pokemon, even outside of the Center.

As Valerie approached, eyes fell on her, and murmurs could be heard from the mass of evacuees who had just seen her come straight out of the Pokemon Center. She saw phone cameras already being raised, but didn’t have time to fret over her image, which was already all over the place, so she homed in on the group of Nurses instead.

“I need to talk to Nurse Joy! Where is she?” She spoke into the group, and the Nurses pointed her further in the back where a large Shirtless man with bushy eyebrows was already talking to the Nurse, an entourage of Rangers surrounding the man. None of them looked to be any of the rangers she knew, unfortunately.

She closed in from behind and tapped Nurse Joy on the shoulder, “Hm?” When the Nurse turned and saw her, she forgot all about the large man in front of her and pulled her into a motherly hug, “Oh my goodness! Valerie! You’re back! I’m so glad you’re alright!” She knocked on the small girl's head harshly, “Don’t you ever run into danger like that again! You hear me?!”

“Sorry…” Valerie spoke instinctively as she nursed her head.

Looking next to the girl, Nurse Joy saw her Pokemon had returned as well. She bent down to give Larvitar a piece of her mind as well, “And you returned as well, you little troublemaker! Don’t you EVER run into a dangerous place like that! You’re only going to make your trainer worry, you hear me?!”

“Lar!” Her Pokemon didn’t seem to share the same apologetic tone as Valerie did for Nurse Joy, “Larvi-Larv!” She didn’t catch the entire thing, but Valerie knew Larvitar was saying that he wasn’t in any danger, possibly because he assumed his mother would never hurt him. It continued by pointing at the muscular man beside Nurse Joy, squeaking to Natu on her shoulder about something she couldn’t quite understand.

The nurse's mind was already somewhere else, “Now that you’re out of there, the evacuation efforts can move along way faster at least.”

“This is the girl who ran into the Center?” The bare-chested man spoke from behind the nurse. He quirked an eyebrow at Valerie, a humanoid Pokemon next to him looked more bored than interested in anything nearby. Well-defined muscles bulged on the man's bare chest and arms as he crossed them. The man was someone important by the way the nurses and evacuees stared, even the rangers eyed him with admiration.

Valerie thought she might have seen the man before, but she just couldn’t place him. He knelt next to her with a serious scowl, “We’ve been caught up on the situation, so you can remain calm.” Placing a comforting hand on the girl's shoulder, he continued, “We will get your Larvitars' mother calmed down and out of the center safely, alright?”

‘Ugh…’ She suppressed a scowl at the man's bad acting, “I don’t think you’ll need to,” Raising Tyranitars Pokeball and pressing it into Nurse Joy's hand, Valerie continued, “Tyranitars inside this Pokeball, can you take a look at her? I think she’s not healthy yet. She needs healing.”

Both the muscle-bound man and Nurse Joy looked at the Pokeball with wide eyes. Just as they were about to open their mouths again, a hundred questions on their lips, Michelle finally pushed her way through the crowd. When her eyes fell on Valerie, she exploded, “Valerie! I swear to everything holy, you are in so much trouble! How do you manage to keep running away into danger every time?! You’re coming with me!”

She pulled at Valerie's arm, but was stopped by the giant man, “I’m sorry, Ma’am, but we’re going to need your daughter here.”

Her already foul mood soured even more as she looked at the man, poking a finger into the mans chest she sneered at him, “And who are YOU to tell me what I can do with my own daughter!”

The man's scowl fell even further into a frown as he looked down at Valerie's mother. He forced her hand back down next to her body patiently, “The name is Bruno. I am part of the Elite Four of the Indigo League. Here, as the leader of the ranger team supposed to face the rampaging Tyranitar, supposedly caught and returned to the Nurse Joy here by your daughter.”

Michelle’s face turned ghostly white at the mention of the Elite Four and Valerie finally remembered where she had seen Brunos face before, as some of the many official League-sanctioned battles she’d watched in the past came back to her, “We will need to keep your daughter with us for a bit longer, if you don’t mind.”

A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.

“P-Please do…” Michelle dropped the matter immediately. Nurse Joy turned and handed the Tyrannitar's Pokeball to the other Nurses, already planning out the treatment for the Pseudo-Legendary. Needless to say, her fun day out with her mother was over for Valerie.

  …

The local police station was just a quick walk away from the Center, so Valerie was once again in for another bout of explaining herself to authorities, with Bruno sitting across from her. They were sitting in one of the very uncomfortable interrogation rooms, not because this was an interrogation but because it was the best room the police station had to have a private conversation.

The man looked comical sitting in a regular-sized office chair, like a G.I. Joe doll somehow found its way into a Barbie dreamhouse. His Hitmonchan sat beside him, looking far too human for Larry's comfort as he watched their exchange from ground level. He couldn’t help but his mind wander for a second, ‘I wonder if those boxing gloves come off?’

“So after we got Larvitar’s mother out of Mt. Silver, the rangers admitted her to the center for healing. For some reason, she woke up and started rampaging.” Valerie explained herself earnestly, she was in front of an Elite Four member, and the adrenaline of running into a collapsing building was slowly wearing off and opening her eyes to the reality of the situation.

‘Valerie had talked to the Professor of the region and an Elite Four member before she ever went on her journey at this point, that's got to be some kind of record, doesn’t it?’ Larry mused to himself.

Bruno scratched at his chin as he listened to Valerie recount, the man hadn’t shown a single expression other than his very pronounced scowl the entire time. If Larry was forced to guess, the man either was utterly annoyed by every single event which had led up to him being here in this very moment, or the man simply scowled like this regularly.

His guess was on the second one. If Valerie was put off by it, she didn’t show it.

When Valerie finished, she looked at the Elite Four member helplessly, but he didn’t respond. Instead, he simply blinked for a second, only to turn his eyes from her to the ceiling in introspection. “Um…” Valerie tried to get the man's attention for a second, but he cut her off.

“It seems that this is a pretty complicated case, doesn’t it?”

“Y-Yeah…” She nodded back into the silence of the interrogation room.

The man turned his look from the ceiling to the windows of the room, which were almost entirely shuttered, probably to stop people from fleeing. He sucked in a breath through his teeth, “I’ll probably have to give those rangers who escorted you a visit as well.”

With a sigh, Bruno heaved himself from the minuscule office chair and rose to his full height in the interrogation room. “Alright, let's get onto that.” He slapped Hitmonchan on the shoulder, “You too.”

“Eh? And, er…What about me?” Valerie asked quizically.

“Oh? You’re free to go.” He waved off her concern like it was even confusing that she was still there, “From your explanation, it's pretty obvious that this was just a mother Pokemon having an episode about her kid after waking up without it. Those are more common than you might think, it's just that most of the time the Pokemon isn’t known to destroy mountains in its rage.”

  "Nothing?" Valerie tested.

Bruno answered again, "By the way your mother looked at me, I think you'll be in for quite the punishment."

She sweated a bit at the mention, but continued asking her questions, “What happens to Tyranitar now?”

“She’ll be treated, obviously, and then everything will continue as it has. She’ll be released back into Mt. Silver, that was the plan from what the Rangers and Nurses told me.”

  “What about all the damage?”

Bruno’s scowl, for the first time, turned into a smile at Valerie's question, “You’ll be paying, of course.” He stretched out his hand, “20 Billion Pokedollars.”

Valerie's eyes grew wide as she raised her hands in surrender, “I, uh, don’t have that kind of money?”

“Hahaha!” Bruno broke out in laughter at his own joke. Hitmonchan only rolled his eyes next to him, “I’m just kidding, Pokecenters have insurance, that will all be taken care of in some way.” The man's shoulder convulsed as he fought against the hilarity of his own joke, he only calmed down when his Hitmonchan smacked his biceps with its gloved hand.

‘Well, if anything, he isn’t as cold as he looked to be.’ Larry thought to himself as he looked at their exchange.

“Your Larvitar is related to that Tyranitar. So I assume the Nurses looking after Tyranitar will be keeping a sharper eye on it so that its young is there next time it awakens.” Waving off her concerns as his Hitmonchan rose from its seat, Bruno continued, “Please talk it out with Nurse Joy if you can, I’ve got some rangers to question.”

“Y-Yes!” Valerie rose as she nodded, entirely unsure of what to make of the man.

Bruno held the door open for Valerie. Before she could leave, he patted her on the shoulder as she passed, now with a more genuine smile on his face, “You still look tense, but don’t worry. You’ve got two Pokemon before ever beginning your journey, and you’ve already had quite the adventure getting them. I think you’ll make it pretty far when your journey begins.”

Larry stared at the giant, entirely unsure of how he came to that conclusion, ‘Why would she be worried about that?’

  “Thank you…?”

  …

Valerie stood outside the Police Station, utterly confused about the events which just transpired. She was still caked in dust in her brand new outfit, she wiped at her clothes helplessly as she spoke with Larvitar on the ground, “You had some time to talk with your mom, is she alright?”

“She is…well…she’s ok?” Larry made the motion of a scale with his arm, bobbing his head from side to side in indecision, ‘She’s alive and we talked, but I wish we had some more minutes together before she passed out…’

“Well, you’ll get some more time with her soon, right? They said she is going to get better.” Valerie got a happy nod from Larry in return.

“Naa-Naa-Tuu.” Natu spoke absentmindedly from Valerie's shoulder, as she stared at the setting sunset, “Good health is in her future.”

“Really?” Larry didn’t know if that was an actual case of future sight by Natu or just a wish, but he didn’t wanna test the Pokemon right now. “That's good.”

In the distance, Michelle approached, and Valerie turned a shade whiter. Natu, on her shoulder, continued, “Scoldings are in our trainer's future.”

Bad News! I'll stop posting again until the 10th of next month, it's when another test is coming up for me and I need to be SUPEREMELY PREPARED for it, I cannot be distracted!

God knows I'll need it! Wish me Luck!
