TJoCZ Day 65

  Saturday August 4th, 2018: 6:45 PM

My dreams tonight presented me with a tough option. Either continue to focus on my discipline of Solar Tempest, or work on improvement in the field of ranged attack in general. One would increase direct damage, while the other would lead to increased accuracy and eventually more attacks. I thought about it and decided that I should improve damage now, that with Haste, it was only dealing with these “one-offs” that I needed to attack more frequently. I resolved to eventually increase my rate of fire, but for now I wanted to make sure that each shot counted more. The Lady in the Darkness Between the Stars led me back to the Aelemental Maelstrom, to give me the ability to focus on the elemental fire of my attacks. I spent the day soaking up more elemental fire into my essence, to allow me to bring more of the elemental flame to bear with my ranged attacks.

I soaked up that elemental energy, but didn’t let it suffuse me like it had to Donald, and my attacks grew to be imbued with the material, but I am not able to do so just yet. It will take a few nights meditating in this realm to be able to accomplish this outside of here. As I was leaving the dreaming, I thanked the Lady, and said I would do right by others, using this. I did not get a response, but that is only to be expected. She is busy defending us from the rampaging forces of the Far Realm.

I woke up extra early, barely four, starting up the day with burning through my spells after recovering them first thing. I went to the table where I expected Natasha to have left her gear, and there was a small pile, with a note on top. The note said that there was a surprise in one of the rooms downstairs, and Natasha has decided to stay in the room with the surprise. She added that she would not bother me until at least after noon, and that there was a pile of gems here for me to use, since that was what Clint had said I would need. I smiled, noting that this was going to be an interesting day, just like the previous.

It wasn’t time for Cal to start his work day, so I just checked in on him, and saw that he was passed out. I went to the area where I was using for the Mini-Avengers to start crafting, and started on the specifically designed schedule to maximize our combined crafting efforts. I got to work with all of them, as quickly as possible, and after eight hours, we had just everything made, at the expense of EVERYONE working together to bust out everything that they could. It was an… interesting… assortment of items. A pair of earrings made from the condensed ice diamonds from the frost giant (had to use some of them), the spaulders had filigree now, a small black clutch, her boots now had embroidered runes in black thread, and had two special slots in the heals, a pair of fine black gloves that had silver tracing on the cuff, her “widow’s stings” - something that I am amazed that she entrusted me to modify, and a set of three different crystals that would adhere to either a weapon or the spaulders, as appropriate. A nice haul, to which I added a little bit of a gift.

Since I had planned on burning through the magic I had this morning, I had enspelled one each of the constant energy stones, reshaped them with the Chisel to be smaller and more uniform, and placed them in a ceramic lined box. I added a bit of the remaining bulk of each stone in different manners, adding some of the Sonus Chord as lined in inlay on the soles of her shoes, further dampening the sound of her steps. I added the Galvanic Sparks into her Widow’s Stings to provide permanent battery for them, and a means to charge something via plugging it in she already had, I added the Blight Stone remnants to a set of four smoothed out cap headed dowels, that would allow her to use the acid to pinpoint burn into weaker objects. I added a set of carefully bagged marbles from the remaining quantity of the Gelid Heart, because I was certain that she could figure out some way to use them, and finally, I made some tiny caltrops from the Phoenix Core, that she could use to throw off followers or help with infrared sensors by “blowing them out”.

I used the enchanted bedroll to sleep for an hour and regain my magical ability. When I was done, I got up and meditated to regenerate my arcane capability. I got up and sent the Mini-Avengers to keep working on the non-magical aspects of Cal’s gear. I gathered up Natasha’s new gear, and the Field Provision Box, and walked down the floors to look for Natasha. I made my way down after checking the different rooms, carefully, listening as I went, until I got to the basement.

I checked and saw that the Dragon Raider was gone, so I assumed that S.H.I.E.L.D. officially took him into custody. I looked across and saw Donald Gill sitting at his table. I walked over and used my boots to dimensionally jump into the cell. Donald Gill stood up panicking and jumped back, looking like he was going to try to summon up some kind of elemental energy. I told him that I wasn’t here to hurt him, and that I was just here to make sure that he had food and drink, whatever kind he wanted.

Donald looked at me like I was joking, before I sat down in the chair across from where he was sitting, and produced the Field Provision Box. I told him that this was a magic box, and that it can create whatever you can envision, but it only remains like that until an hour passes, when it becomes gruel. Donald started to look like he was thinking I was joking, before he went back over the fight. He asked me if I was going to attack him, and I told him that no, I wasn’t going to do that, that he was only here so we can get through whatever brainwashing H.Y.D.R.A. had inflicted upon him, so that we can work to get him into whichever career path he wants to head down.

Donald asked me what I was talking about. I told him, that from what I know, it had been years since he fell into the water, and that things have happened to him that he might not understand, and that is even after the mental conditioning that he would have been subjected to, back when H.Y.D.R.A. had infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D. I added that if I was him, I wouldn’t be likely to trust H.Y.D.R.A., or S.H.I.E.L.D., but that still gives him options. He asked me what kinds of options. I told him that, for one, I was making a school that was specifically designed to help people learn to use their abilities safely to their best extent.

Donald looked me over and said that this seemed to be very suspicious. I told him that he had every right to be suspicious, that if he wanted, I could leave him with some books and writing material. I cautioned him, jokingly, that it would have to be pencil based, rather than ink, because I didn’t want him to lose functionality when it got cold and the ink froze. I pulled out a blank notebook, and asked him what subjects he would like to know about. Donald asked me if I could give him a history of what had happened from when he fell into the water, to now, for S.H.I.E.L.D., H.Y.D.R.A., and the world. I shrugged, and cast Amanuensis and Page Bound Epiphany, to give him a full ten pages of documentation.

I focused the results of the spell on things that would be applicable to him, and mainly world news that would show a lot of information but nothing that he shouldn’t know to get ahead. I cautioned him that I had just arrived on this planet in May of this year, so I didn’t have much better information for him. I added that there were no electronic devices or cameras down here, so his privacy is exactly what he thinks it is. I added that I would have to leave for a bit, but that I could drop back by later. I added that while the walls and the room were climate controlled to minimize his ability to outburst, it was really more so that he can just not have the thought of the capability of doing so, so that we can slowly decrease the effects of the ceiling, walls, and air conditioning, to ensure that he has control over the abilities, and the abilities are not controlling him.

I told Donald that from what I knew about him, he was a very gifted scientist, and that the school that I was building could use someone teaching for that role. I told him that it is a lot to think about, and that I would try to get whatever information he might need going forward, and that I would help him however I could, to help him master control of his powers. He should note that while I did stop him, that NONE of the damage that I did was actually real, and completely faded after twenty-four hours. Donald asked me how I had done that, and I said, Magic. I invited him to pull out whatever meal he wanted, and he pulled out a faded brown paper bag, with a pair of yellow arches on it, shaped into an “M”.

He pulled out a smaller box, with some fried chicken pieces in it, and some fried straws of potato. He also pulled out a conical paper cup with a plastic lid and a straw. He looked up at me shocked, and I told him to not worry too much about any trash, it would disappear in either an hour or a day, depending on what spell or effect made it. Donald took a tentative bite of the chicken and it looked like his memories of his childhood were rushing back to him. I told him to have a good lunch and spend some time thinking and reading.

I left Donald to have some time to self reflect, while I used my shoes to dimensionally stride back out of the cell. I continued to the other rooms and eventually found three people in the last combat room in the basement. It was Natasha, Cal, and a young woman who I had met only briefly when I was in the ambulance. It was the young woman who had caused the flicker of lights. She was observing as Cal and Natasha were sparring together.

I cleared my throat and Cal perked up immediately, saying that he was just showing Black Widow the different moves that he can do. I laughed and said that I was just glad that he was feeling energetic enough to show off some of that energy after he was looking dog tired before sunrise this morning. Cal quieted just slightly, before he sussed out that I wasn’t being actively hostile or berating him. Natasha spoke up and said that this was Sera Recher, that we had met previously, and something had drawn her here.

I brought over the Field Provision Box to Cal, and asked him to go get Sera some good food and, if you can, spend some time finding out about her background. Cal nodded and invited Sera to follow him up to the mess hall. Once they were gone, I smiled and told her that I had some things for her. I pulled out all of the gear from my extradimensional storage space, and handed them all to her. She started to go through the items and I explained them to her as we went.

When we got to the earrings, she placed one of them against her ear, and I told her that they would stick there unless she took them off, or ten pounds of pressure were applied, without studs. Natasha nodded along, as I further explained everything that they did. We went on through the different items, from the gloves, to the boots, through everything else, finally to the spaulders which were now more like dull black filigreed metal shoulder plates. I finally told Natasha that these shoulder guards would allow her to change the appearance of all garments to look like any outfit that she desires. Natasha noted that this, combined with her S.H.I.E.L.D. false face means that she could pass a corner and be a completely different looking person.

Nastasha went over all of the different details from each item verbally, with me providing any feedback to make sure that she understood every aspect of her new gear. She went through a couple of outfit changes from the spaulders, from formal to informal, and noticed how all of the clothing that she wore changed appearance to match. She asked me if the Earrings could be coded to work with others for the Sending aspect. I told her that since I was the one enchanting items, I could patch them into a kind of Arcano-Telepathic and Transmission network, the kind that Amber and I are currently on, and what Clint will be on when his next upgrade gets patched in. Natasha snickered a little and asked if I had any background for that name, and I told her that my mentor in my home world used that term, and that he said that if any of us end up in another world that we should use it and that if it was recognizable, it might help.

Natasha sighed and said that it definitely was recognizable. After we had gone over all of the items that I had made for Natasha, she coyly asked if this would be the limit of what I would make for her. I laughed and told her that I was never against adding more gear, but that it would be good for her to get these items down, before adding even more complexity of having even more items to integrate. I added that I liked to leave space for items to be added in, in the event that something important comes up. I told her that it is much easier to add a new item to the list, than completely change up what you already have. Plus, assuming that you feel amenable to it, you could always opt for Sending specifics to me, and then I might, in the future, be able to teleport to you.

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

Natasha asked if that was really possible. I told her not yet, but hopefully, I would be able to in time. Nothing quite like putting in a request, and next day, or possibly even in nine hours, getting a bespoke item for your situation teleported directly to you. I know it isn’t immediate access, but that would be for bespoke solutions. I could easily whip up a bunch of minor things over time for less unique circumstances, and once that shipping system gets set up, requisitioning wouldn’t be difficult. Eventually, I might end up making something like that a place where you can call up what you need, and then have a construct fetch it for you. Natasha dryly asked if I was going to call that something like D.H.L.

I thought about it and said that Dimensional Hyperspace Logistics does have a nice ring to it. Natasha shook her head and asked if I had any further thoughts about this S.P.E.A.R. initiative and where it would place. I told her that back where I was from, you got people of different backgrounds and put them together to solve issues. Generally between four to six people might end up coming together via strange and possibly convoluted means, to eventually gel as a team and work to solve a lot of problems in the area. My ultimate hope is that we can find many varying groups of people who can help like this in the future.

Natasha asked me, speaking of the future, if I thought that meant that I was going to be “poaching” Avengers members for these groups. I told her that my hope was, the Avengers will remain the Avengers, S.H.I.E.L.D. will remain S.H.I.E.L.D., the Masters of the Mystic Arts will retain their own autonomy, but that maybe, just maybe, we might be able to find a few gifted youngsters from the ranks of each for the up-and-comers, who might benefit from cross discipline cooperation, and have several of these groups working to help promote the common good. Natasha asked to clarify if this was mandatory or voluntary. I told her that these groups had to be voluntary, as they didn’t work if people did not want to be there. I added that the idea is that each person would bring a different skill set and set of abilities to the table, so they can handle a more varied group of tasks.

Natasha asked if I thought that the groups would be amenable to it. I told her that I wasn’t looking to poach existing members, that most of them would be too hidebound to look into something like this, but newly trained people, they might be open to the idea of this, especially if their gear and necessities are taken care of. Maybe if we have a few circumstances where this model shines, we can get them together and start making state or eventually even city models. I added that I wasn’t just planning on doing training for JUST my students, but for others as well. I need to set up live-fire Combat Simulation rooms where entities like were on the transparencies can be studied, fought, and response tactics can be developed for, not just for the students, or the cross pollination teams, but also for existing members, like the Avengers.

I added that I would be added in another opportunity for people like her, once I got it approved, that I would bring in guests from the upper planes to talk and help hone skills and tactics. Creatures that might have been fighting these kinds of entities for millennia. I have to get it approved though, so that might take some more time, but it would be something that could come up in the future. Natasha said that the spy in her couldn’t help but want to get more information, so she would certainly be behind that. I told her that the future, of this future, wasn’t set in stone, but that we should do everything that we can, to give ourselves the best chances.

We finished up our briefing, and went to go check on my apprentice, and possibly, the new student. When we got to the mess hall, the two were laughing and joking. I smiled at the two of them as I heard Cal tell Sera that the thug had fallen face first when he got hit with the ICER round, and dented up his fake grill. I looked at Natasha and she whispered just loud enough for me to hear, that he was certain that Sera wasn’t her name, but that she had a good heart and had passed Natasha’s checks and tests. I nodded, and whispered back that I had seen her in an ambulance a few weeks ago, after an attempt, and that she looked much better now.

We walked up to the two, and asked how Sera was fitting in. Sera said this building had just called to her, and that Natalie had been the one to see her last night and talk to her. I nodded and said that while Natalie was just visiting, she was a friend of the school, and that she might be coming back more frequently, or even send some other people to visit from time to time. Natasha/Natalie looked at me just briefly with a spark, and admitted that her friend Steve might drop by sometime soon, or even Mr. Stank. I stifled a laugh and said that the last one might not be the best fit here, but I’ll meet with anyone who has a good heart.

We left the two to continue their conversation, and Natasha walked with me back up to the office. I told her that I had one more group to introduce to her. As we went up to the office level, I showed her the Mini-Avengers. Natasha smirked and said that Clint had mentioned that I had a little help to make things fast, that she guessed that he wasn’t kidding. I told her that they were an homage to the heroes of this world, and that they did most of the work on her items.

Natasha watched them work away on the alchemical broths for making the temperament baths that will be used for armor later. I invited her back into the tent and we went over all of the different pressure points of getting the different groups up on board. I thanked her for her thoughts, and asked her about some things that I was considering pushing to Tony Stark, and why I was waiting until after he gets comfortable with the Constant Energy Stones, so that we can maximize the usage. Natasha cautioned that Tony might feel miffed about being “managed” like this. I told her that if I gave him access to everything at the same time, he’d be swimming in it, and I would never get anything done with requests for more.

Natasha commiserated, and said that even without meeting him, I knew a fair amount about him. I told her that I knew people like him, and I was just figuring that he would run full force at everything given to him. I added that he shouldn’t be given access to too many physics breaking things at the same time. I laughed to myself and said that I wanted him to advance the world, not advance himself into lunacy. Natasha said that this was a wise decision.

We finished off the meeting, and Natasha said that she had gotten enough information about “P.B.C. Healthcare” and the Chrysalis, that she can respond back to Steve and the other Avengers currently at the compound to give them the profile and what they can expect from me and the possibilities of this building. I laughed and said that there was one more thing. I walked over to the enclosed area and pointed down at the parking lot opposite the building from Bob’s Gunshop, and told her that this was all set up now to allow a Quinjet to be parked here and no one would know it. Natasha looked at me and I asked her if she saw the tower walking up. She acknowledged that she had not. I told her that both the tower and the back portion of the parking lot are covered with the same style of illusion, and because of that, no changes to the area are registered until the illusion drops.

Natasha said that this was a very useful thing and that she’d keep it in mind. I told her that I didn’t have the time right now to make more, but that I would keep it in the roster. Natasha asked if there was a definitive list of what I could make, and I told her that I did not have a specific list of items that I could make, just that I needed to figure out each one individually, then I could recreate them afterwards much easier. Natasha sat back and thought for a moment and then nodded. We continued on with what I expected going forward and what challenges I might face.

When we were done, Natasha sat back and said that she’d be leaving today and that I would have Norfolk all to myself again today. I smiled and said that I wouldn’t have Norfolk all to myself, I had Cal, and I’m certain that if I needed help, and the situation was dire enough, the Avengers would answer the call. Natasha nodded and then asked me the big question, “So, what do you want to tell me about Kanczar.” I asked her what she meant by that. Natasha asked me where I got the idea of making up a villain that was so horrendous, that you couldn’t even talk about him, and then dispatching him in such a way that he can’t be questioned, then leaving behind a relic of a permanently cold crystal that has a flickering green flame in it.

I smiled and said that back on a specific law enforcement detail in Magnimar, that I had been trained in recognizing the difference between certain high level evil spells, and I figured if I made something that passed for something like a Trap the Soul or Imprisonment spell, it would lend credence to the threat, to make sure that Amber is not to be touched. Natasha smiled and asked what happens when someone actually tests me. I looked at her flatly, and said that there is a fine line between dealing with an enemy combatant, even if not equals, and purposefully going after a loved one that they know can’t defend themselves purposefully. I continued and said that when someone does something truly horrendous, then they deserve something horrendous happening to them. I finished saying that I truly believe in the severity of the punishment, matching the crime.

Natasha nodded, and then asked me what happens when it does happen. I looked at Natasha and said that I was not beyond losing my alignment and leaving the school to someone who is more deserving, like Cal, if it is needed to avenge the event and prevent another from that. I acknowledge that people suffer losses all the time, and while I might emphasize, I haven’t reached the point where I lose it. Then again, maybe I’d just summon a celestial and have them take the villain for eternal punishment how they judge them. Natasha asked if I would feel any guilt by doing so, and I shrugged, saying that I can’t rightly contemplate it now, but that I didn’t expect to feel too bad, as the celestial realms would likely be much more precise than I.

Natasha seemed to be filing it away in her memories, and we stood and shook hands. Natasha asked if I would like some time before the next Avenger comes down to visit and get some upgrades. I told her that if there was a need, that anyone can come down, but that it would be best if they bring the gems and an understanding that things will be really weird and some time will be required for it. Natasha nodded and said that it would be a little while at least, the world was still hectic and full of chaos, not nearly as stabilized as Norfolk has become. I offered up that once Cal graduated to be able to handle the large tasks, I would be glad to help out elsewhere in the world, on a case by case basis, of course.

Natasha agreed and said that the Avengers would be in touch, and that they would do their best to keep Tony off my back. I thanked her, and told her to let Clint know that he will need to drop by to get his service upgraded. Natasha laughed and said that she would do so. Natasha left my office, and I resolved to shift my work a little. I summoned up as many Unseen Crafters as I could, and focused them on work on creating a mystical rooting compound for the splinter of Yggdrasil. It was weak now, but I planned on having this ready to go, as soon as I could, for Thor. I imagine the story of Natasha and I defeating a Frost Giant scout and regaining a piece of the World Ash might make for a good story. I’ll make sure that I have plenty of mead and wine available in the Mess Hall, in case he shows up.

They started working on purifying the substrates that would then be purified. This was more important than tempering, and that could wait a few days anyway. I needed to be prepared for the Autumnal Equinox, which seems to be happening in a month and a half. That is the day that I hope to be ready for this. I retreated back to my studies and decided that I would start a closed off room on the seventh floor for this project, and one for a few others. They only needed to be accessible by me for now.

I spent the rest of the day, working on getting the rooms prepared and the dedicated wrights doing their tasks. Towards evening, I went down to check in with Cal and Sera. They were practicing combat in the basement, and I brought the Chisel and the Field Provision Box to Donald. I spared some time talking to him about what happened and how he could get past it. I told him that while he did attack me, I did “knock on his door” with a recoilless rifle, so I gave him a pass for it.

I offered up that if he desired to become a part of S.P.E.A.R., his involvement would only be what he desired, but that it could expand as much as he desired. He listened and ate his sandwich while asking me what my role was for it. I told him that I was the headmaster of the Chrysalis, a place where one can go and shed their former selves to become something greater. He nodded and said that something like this would be appreciated. I told him that if it even worked out that he wanted to go back into superheroics, that I would be glad to be his sponsor. I could even make him items to SPECIFICALLY recalibrate his attacks to be non-lethal, removing a LOT of the problems with his abilities.

Donald perked up at that, and asked how I might do that. I told him it would be the same way as my own firearms. It might take some time to research, and might come with a slight power-up at the same time, but I would not ask anything of him for it, and would be glad to help make the world safer and a better place. Donald said that he would think on that. I told him that this was all I could ask him to do. I told him to have a good night, and that when he thinks he has a good handle on his anger and the powers, we can work on decreasing the thermal offsets. I also offered that I was going to try to find him a better liaison than just me before I left.

I went through the rest of the day in a bit of a fog, getting things done, but not paying much attention to them. At the end of my day, I checked to make sure that both Sera and Cal were okay, Cal in one room, and Sera in another. I didn’t care about them doing things, I just wanted each to have their own space. I finished off my day by actually doing the Sending to Amber first, telling her that we had an interesting day, and that it looked like things would be better here for her, and that she can plan on a trip a month after she gets back. Amber sent back that she was growing even stronger, she could feel it, and that Bright-Eyes was definitely giving her faint feelings of warmth and happiness. A good end to a good day.

The Spaulders resize for the wearer, and can shine brightly when brought within 60 feet of an outsider with the elemental subtype, shedding light as a torch, if desired. The spaulders glow a different color depending on the subtype of the elemental or elementals present (white for air, yellow for earth, red for fire, and blue for water). If more than one subtype is present, the gem flickers back and forth between the appropriate colors. 1. Widow’s Clutch: This small pouch, in the original form, is made from Jotunheim Beast hide, but it will change shape and form to match whatever clothing is desired, and if none are proper, takes the form of a neck pouch. It also does not detect that it is magical (as per the magic aura spell), but the pouch acts as a very small bag of holding (contents limit 10 pounds, volume limit 2 cubic feet). With a command word, the wearer can close or open the extradimensional space within the pouch; when closed, the pouch holds no more than a mundane belt pouch the size of a human fist, though objects within the extradimensional space remain stored, unreachable until the pouch is unsealed again. This allows the user to empty his pockets or even turn the pouch inside-out to prove he carries no contraband, and access the hidden goods later when in a safe place. 1000
