"Quit, trying to bite me. Just- gah! You little bastard! LET ME LOVE YOU!" I yelled at the 7 foot tall quadruped monster trying to eat my arm, but failing to bite through Jimmy.
It snarled, attempting to shake it's head like I was a chew toy. I did not let it and held myself steady using Telekinesis.
The monster was quite large, it's shoulders measuring at 7 feet. It looks similar to a griffin, just without the wings. Or the bird parts in general. Nope, just a massive pissed off wolf/jaguar with this really nice red and black fur. It's face was a bit smooshed though, reminds me of a healthy looking pug. Super short snout, but not short enough to cause breathing problems.
It clawed at my chest while trying to remove my arm. I remained unmoving.
"Just give it a try, it's tasty!" I pleaded with it, trying to shove the cube of fake meat past my arm in it's mouth.
This was the third monster I was trying this with. The first two were much larger, and did not have an issue with eating the cubes. No, the problem was that they liked it so much they immediately tried everything in their power to kill me for more. However that's not that different of a normal activity for a monster.
I started with 1000 points of Energy in the cubie treat, which turned out to be too much, and made my way down to 600 on this attempt. The Tasty Treats Skill was proving to be a bit too much for simple minded creatures. Turning food into crack or heroin instead of treats.
That first attempt was a learning process, and I learned a lot. Like "don't name the monster before trying to tame it". Killroy will be remembered fondly. For another week or so.
The angry wolf/jaguar/pug thing snarled again, sounding like a v12 engine's and lions offspring, and tried to knock me down for easier access to my stomach.
"Maybe I should stop trying to be so friendly and just fight it into submission?" I muttered to myself, thinking out loud about what I was doing wrong.
Some animals did need to be shown you were the boss, and this was not an animal. It was a monster, which is like an animal if everything but friendliness was turned up to 100.
"I'm scared that if I hurt it too much, it won't give up or it might become crippled... I really want a healing Skill." I sighed dreamily at the thought.
I was entirely too good at destroying, and was not good at creating nor healing. I can just pay others to fill those gaps, but it didn't feel very nice to be powerless in a different sense.
'Powerless... Aren't I weak physically?' I pondered my Strength Stat, and remembered that it was at 160 the last time I checked.
I had no idea how strong or weak that was, but it had to be weaker than everything else I had. So as an experiment, I threw a left hook at the creatures head. No Telekinesis backing the hit up, just straight up physical prowess.
My clenched fist collided with the beasts head, and it glared harder at me.
I had done fuck all.
"Right, you're a black tag creature." I smacked my head with my free hand.
The monster was over 160 levels higher than I was, of course my Strength Stat is completely useless here. I could use my Telekinesis and force feed it, but something in me said that would be cheating.
I was challenging myself to not completely overpower it, mentally or otherwise. While the monster continued in it's fruitless violence, I stroked my helmets chin out of habit.
From what I remembered about how humans tamed wolves in the past, we started out by abducting pups and raising them. I need to get the monsters to think of me as a sort of alpha or family member. Like a parent. Guess I was kidnapping a monsters kids.
Looking at the monster in front of me, I felt a great amount of kinship. We had grown close as I let it try to maul me, and I found it's species cute. It'll do.
"Alright, that's enough of that." I ordered, and a blast of Telekinetic force knocked the beast back.
I flew up into the air, and it did this weird growl mewl thing as I was now out of it's reach.
"Lead me to your family." I chuckled evilly, tapping my finger tips together.
...
I had said that, but it took nearly 30 minutes for it to give up on me.
In that time, I dropped the meat cube but it ignored the cubie treat. Completely focusing on me.
Now that it didn't care enough to get me, I followed it from the sky as it prowled through the forest. Or jungle? No it was a forest, just much bigger than normal. It lacked that special jungle humidity that made them super annoying to deal with.
Comparing the monster I was following to all the monsters I've seen on this planet, I'd say it was a small to medium monster. Just a tad bellow the average size. Rarely would you see smaller, and it was a bit more common to see larger monsters.
I did see some larger monsters think about hunting my prey, but I either scared them off or had Jimmy eat them without my mark noticing. Couldn't have my progress ruined by some interlopers.
I watched on as a smaller monster appeared, and my little pug cat pal killed it in a scuffle. It ate some, then took most of the left overs in it's mouth and started walking away.
That surprised me, since I had no idea what gender this thing was and had no way of knowing if it had kids. I was spying on it to see if it had a pack or something. I thought it would take days to find a lead, but my Luck Stat is once again making my life easier.
The monster had hurried home after securing some food, and it didn't take long for the beast to find it's den. It was a hole in a dirt cliff, a trees roots holding the walls up naturally. It was a pack monster, just a very small one. I could see maybe 4 adults, along a nest made of monster bones and ruined furs in the middle. Around 9 younglings sat in the middle, all in various states of growth.
A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
It didn't feel right to take a perfectly healthy cub from it's mother, but for better or worse I was lucky enough to see 3 runts. Tiny infant like monsters, pink and almost hairless, eyes closed and shaky limbs, and extremely thin. As I watched the activity within the den, the monster returning with the food swapped places with one of the other adults, who then went into the wilderness. The meat was dropped on the outer edge of the nest without care, and the creature sauntered off.
The young fought amongst themselves for the food. The bigger ones obviously getting more, and the 3 runts left with basically nothing. As the little creatures moved closer to the meal, I saw what remained of a different runt. Mostly eaten, and currently being sat on by the third biggest.
It was a horrible sight, but nature is nature I suppose. The three runts that were left did try to get some food, but they were either completely ignored or outright swatted away. Well they belong to me now, so they would be getting fed today and everyday from now on.
"Pardon me, coming through." I waved my hand, and pushed the adults swarming me away like they were regular housecats.
A larger sibling tried to bite me as I reached the nest, and I flicked it's forehead. It yelped, but continued on trying to fight me. The others tried to do the same, but I wasn't interested in them.
Gingerly, I lifted the 3 runts with the softest Telekinetic hands I could create. They mewed loudly, only one able to barely see where to hiss and mewl at, and I shut them up by putting a meaty cube in front of them.
"You guys get 10 points of Energy for now." I whispered to them, as they didn't really need any incentive to eat the cubie treats in front of them.
I hovered them close to me, and they orbited as I walked right out of the nest.
"You don't mind me adopting them do you?" I asked one of the adults currently trying to eat me from the barrier I put up.
It yowled and hissed violently, and I nodded in understanding.
"Right, you need payment. My apologies." I reached a hand into a pocket, and forced it open as I pulled out meat cube after meat cube.
I'm not much of a chef, so all of my meat was cubical. These weren't 'improved' by the Tasty Treats Skill, so they're just regular meat. I stopped when there was a pile 2 feet high of meat.
"That should cover it, farewell!" I waved with a smile and floated up into the air. My new kids trailing along.
Looking over at one, it was viciously growling at the cube as it tried to use it's tiny little teeth to eat it. It was pretty cute.
The runts were mostly hairless, and slightly fuzzy on some parts of their body. Their tails were stubby and thin. They were very skinny, to the point I could use their stomach as a bowl if I wanted to. All 3 were around the size of my foot. Quite large for being runts, but they were also born from monsters who average a 7 foot height while on all 4's.
They were quieter than they were when they were mewling at me, but they were not quiet eaters. One even seemed unable to decide if it should eat or hiss at me, so it did both. That was the one that could see with it's partially opened eyes, and I assume the other 2 just didn't know what I was.
"What should I name you three? Hmm..." I pondered as we flew. The three of them floating in front of me as I encircled them with a ball of Telekinetic force, protecting them from the wind.
That's when I got an evil idea.
"Triplets born, the thrown awaits!" I grin widely as I start laughing to myself.
"A seer warns of a deadly fate! Give up your children, Separate~!" I start laugh singing the Sonic Underground theme song. At least the parts I remember.
"Sonic underground~!" I'm laughing my ass off, tears streaming down my face.
The show was terrible, and I'd never seen more than a few episodes, but looking at the three of them it just came to me.
My hysteria had agitated the kitten things, and they were back to mewling and hissing at me.
"Sorry, sorry. I'll shut up." I giggle a bit, and then try to remember the character names of the main 3.
When I realized that I couldn't, I gave up on that evil plan and settled for another.
"I could be lame and name them Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles, but I should name them something else." I tapped my helmets chin, then nodded.
"You're Hedge, you're Claw, and you'll be... Finger. No, that's retarded. I'll name you Ruth." With them named, I stopped flying and Gated us to the farm under the city.
Once there, I went straight to a barn and to an pen for housing animals. The smallest one to be exact. I reached into my magic pockets and pulled out several of my extra pillows. These were the ones that I considered 'good enough' but no where near the quality of my special pillows. Using them, I recreated the nest I saw but made it smaller. Then I deposited Hedge, Claw, and Ruth into the middle.
"Alright, this is your new home. And mine now that I think about it... But anyway, I'm going to be your new parent and raise you!" I said happily, and reached out to pet them.
They scratched at me and bit, but I didn't care. I giggled at their attempts to harm me. It was so cute that they thought they were in danger and thought they could stop me. A little sad, but cute.
"Daddy's gotta go and get some stuff okay~? Be good!" I was already getting super attached to them, so to make sure they would stick around for a long time I was going to get some new Skills.
Surprisingly, I didn't have a single healing Skill item in my entire collection. I suppose that since I never needed it due to my regeneration and my Luck messing with the rewards I get to stuff I want, it never popped up. Instead of doing a Dungeon run for items, I went to a station and immediately started looking for magic items. Specifically ones that offered healing and curing disease.
I was in a hurry so I flew instead of walking in the station. Which understandably pissed off the guards, but my new friends needed medical attention. I could look for a vet for monsters, but I doubt taming is common enough to have one of those be on- it's right fucking there.
I stopped suddenly in my flight, ignoring the guards below yelling at me. Right next to me, was a fucking vet for monster tamers.
I was torn between going right in and going toward a shop for my items. I tilted my head back and forth as I thought about it. Shrugging, I landed and walked into the vet, metaphorically tossing Shop Points at the space mall cops so they would shut up about a fine or whatever.
"How can I help you?" The purple skinned cyclops octopus woman asked nervously as I stormed in.
"I recently rescued 3 runts from their packs nest, and they are heavily malnourished. Likely sick too. I would like to have them looked at." I stated, staring into their singular eye and watching my own reflection in their pupil.
Their eye was as big as my visor, and we were actually eye level with each other, a very rare occurrence.
"...Okay, where are they?" They asked, scratching their face with a tentacle.
"I'll have to teleport and get them, but I can do it instantly. Can you see them today?" I drummed my fingers along the counter.
I was nervous about leaving them alone for some reason. This is the most I've felt a negative emotion in a long time, but it was still negligible.
"We do take walk-in's, How quickly is instantly for you?" She asked as she got ready to tap away at her computer, and I Gated back to the pen.
Picked up the three of them gently with a mental hand for each, and Gated back to the counter.
"About 2 or 3 seconds." I estimated to her shocked expression.
"Oh! Poor things, the doctor will see you right away." She seemed actually upset at the state of my new kitten puppy things. My kuppens if you will.
She pressed a button, and another octopus cyclops walked out from the backroom.
"Hello, I am Dr. Gymp. Please come this way." He had a light bluish skin color, and he walked around on his tentacles like they were normal knee jointed legs.
It was odd to see, and his name also gave me whiplash. I mean come on. Gymp? It's not the craziest name I heard, but it was wild.
"Nurse Domintha will be assisting me today." Dr. Gymp stated and another Purple octopus alien walked in from a room as I was lead to a deeper room.
Fucking Domintha? This definitely screams like a sex joke. Dominatrix and her Gimp boss.
I was off put by the names, but as they got to work on examining Hedge I realized that they were very competent.
My kuppens Hedge, Claws, and Ruth were in good tentacles.
