Ch. 44 - Upper Hand

Near the source of the wrecked White House, Lilith and Olivia had continued to brawl against their enemies. The battle was quite destructive as booming tremors had constantly shook the area.

Blood had flown from the bodies of super soldiers as Lilith raced about the battlefield, the combatants only reacting after she had already passed by them. The soldiers eyes widened with shock as all witnessed was something akin to a shooting star on earth, zooming around and injuring each other as the air was compressed and superheated due to Lilith’s sheer speeds.

“S-She’s too fast–guh!” A super soldier had questioned with frustration, only to receive a slash across his chest.

Another chance! Immediately turning her stride away from the soldier she had just incapacitated, Lilith had immediately rushed towards the president. I won’t let her get out of my sight!

She went straight for the president, and none could get in her way…none of the super soldiers that is. Like the good little subordinate he was, Frank had intercepted Lilith once again. Although Frank had taken the initiative by swinging his club, Lilith had dipped under.

Get out of my way! Lilith internally yelled as she slammed her fist into his metallic side.

“Guh!” Audibly grunting, Frank was slightly pushed back by the force of her strike. He quickly readjusted his posture before engaging in close quarters combat with Lilith. The repeated clatter of her sword was audible as Lilith slashed Frank several times.

He had blocked several of her slashes with desperate placement of his club, his teeth baring in a silent bind to match his pressured movements, but Lilith’s speed with the blade had rewarded her with many connections.

Ugh! How the hell can she move and attack so quickly!? Frank questioned as cracks had emerged on his solid, silver body, Lilith’s attacks were to blame. And…she’s actually damaging me!?

“Who do you think you are!” Adequately annoyed at the constant attacks, Frank had violently whacked the air with his club with Lilith’s head in the path.

Despite his rage-filled rebellion towards his opponent’s attack, Lilith had easily avoided by backpedaling several meters in an instant. His furrowed eyebrows and gritted teeth almost immediately shaped themselves on his face due to Lilith’s dodge.

  “Damn it! Why is she–”

Wasting no time on her foe, Lilith had immediately entered his personal space. With a diagonal slash to his chest, a line which leaked red liquid had been drawn on his body.

Ugh! She got through my hardened body!? Frank questioned as he clenched his seared chest. How the hell?

  BOOM!

A sudden thunderous bang had shook the ground around them, immediately grasping the attention of the two fighters. The source of the heavy wind which rippled through their hair and garments had come from Cryostasis, surrounded by super soldiers which ragdolled through the air.

“AAAAHHHHHH!!!” Despite being rushed by several super soldiers, it only took the first generation blessed hunter one swipe of his fist across the air to swat them away like flies. His strike had not only roused up large gusts of wind, but the surrounding area could not maintain its structure.

Ksshht! With a wet, crushing pop, a super soldier who had charged up behind Cryostasis had his head forced into the ground with a dominant fist, his allies nearby were knocked away by the resulting shockwave. The super soldier’s head was instantly reduced to a bloody mess.

“C-Cryostasis…please stop!” The cowering words of a super soldier uttered as he and his comrades witnessed the blessed hunter treating these superhumans like trash.

“T-This is completely insane! Just these super soldiers are worth like a dozen of ours in strength!” Nolan yelled as he fought one of Olivia’s super soldiers in close quarters combat. “But Cryostasis is on another damn level!”

“Another level is an understatement! Doesn’t he seem too damn strong and fast!?” Leon remarked as he too fought a super soldier. “He’s moving like Nailhead! He was never that strong. What the hell did that woman even do to them!?”

…The neurotoxin is working well. Olivia pondered as she spectated close to Cryostasis. He’s even stronger than he was last time…I just hope it’ll last long enough!

“...I thought you had a death wish, but you bitches have really thought this out, huh? Splitting us up with what little people you have so you can dare to attack the madam,” Frank remarked with a cold demeanor. “You nearly came close too…and that pisses me off.”

  THUD!

Lilith watched with widened eyes as Frank tossed aside the oversized club, cracking and cratering the ground upon impact.

Lilith had raised her eyebrows as her ears sensed the creaking of Frank’s metallic skin.

“Enough messing around, bitch. I’ll harden my body to its maximum,” Frank declared. “And I’ll kill you with my fists!”

Lilith’s confusion had been replaced by her usual focus with Frank’s declaration, and she bent her knees with her katana by her side as her opponent darted towards her. The clanging of metal became audible as Lilith’s sword clashed against Frank’s fist.

His movements were a lot more agile than before as Frank hopped around and tossed punches and kicks, all the while Lilith constantly swung her sword around to defend his rush.

His movements are better. So the club must have been slowing him down then. Lilith pondered as she fought him. It seems he is similar to me in a sense.

Sparks had flown off with every contact between the two metals, air gusts had burst repeatedly as well.

Damn it! Why the hell are you still so fast!? Frank questioned as frustration had dripped from his face. Why the hell can’t I hit her?

“Ugh!” Getting behind him and slashing his back, Frank had uttered in discomfort. There was nothing more than a mark left however.

He may be faster than before, but his speed is nothing to write home about. Lilith pondered as she took a deep breath. His durability is the only thing that’s impressive. He really is that woman’s dog.

Lilith had struck repeatedly and with focus, forcing Frank on the backpedal as he desperately kept up with defending her slashes. Well it wouldn’t exactly be correct to say he kept up, as Lilith left numerous marks on his body, Frank only blocking a small fraction of her swings with agitation.

Shit! This woman was just a damn restaurant worker a year ago! A goddamn normie! Frank thought as he weaved some of Lilith’s slashes, while still getting struck by others. She should be easy to deal with, so how the hell can she chip away at my skin! No way that’s possible!

Stopping Lilith’s momentum and surprising her, Frank had suddenly grabbed the blade of her katana.

“Enough!” Frank yelled as he struck Lilith in the jaw with a haymaker full of rage. She slid back several meters, her feet had kept planted on the ground.

“Ptoo…compared to Charles, that punch was nothing!” Spitting blood from her mouth, Lilith insulted.

“Tsk, shut up…” Frank muttered as he shook the hand he punched Lilith with. What the hell…isn’t she a bit too sturdy too!?

With their fight paused, Lilith noticed as super soldiers had revealed themselves nearby.

I can feel my muscles slightly tensing up, and I can feel myself having difficulty taking breaths…even if it’s very slight. Lilith pondered as she looked around. I can tell fatigue and exhaustion is slowly building up.I can’t keep fighting this man.

Without any hesitation, Lilith had suddenly made a break for it. Her sudden rush had garnered widened eyes from Frank and the super soldiers.

“H-Hey! Get back here!” Frank yelled as he gave chase. As he chased her, the distance between them kept increasing.

S-She’s too fast! Frank pondered as he could only gaze at Lilith’s back, unable to close the distance. “Damn it! Do something, you useless soldiers!”

Hearing that, super soldiers around the area had come and followed Frank.

She’s too fast, but for some reason, she’s not running towards the madam. Frank pondered. Is she trying to come up with a plan? Either way, it’s not going to work!

While Lilith had her bout with Frank, Cryostasis continued to torment his enemies. The broken bodies of super soldiers continued to be ragdolled across the environment, and super soldiers fortunate enough to not be targeted could only gaze at the former blessed hunter, inching backwards in fear.

  SPLURT!

Shocking the super soldiers, blood has suddenly spurted from the nose and mouth of Cryostasis. His body had visibly trembled as if under discomfort.

“What the…?” One of the cowering super soldiers muttered.

Oh no…his body is starting to break down. Olivia pondered. This isn’t good. “Cryostasis…”

“Huff, huff…I got rid of the weaker bastards,” Leon muttered as he stood over the bloody bodies of the super soldiers he fought against. “Let’s focus on–”

“Look out, Leon!” In Nolan’s field of vision, he had witnessed Cryostasis suddenly appearing behind him and cocking back his fist.

“Wha–” Leon had no time to react other than turning around to a violent hook to his chest. “Eugh!”

Leon, who had the wind knocked out of him, had been knocked away. Nolan had attempted to engage the blessed hunter in close combat, only to find out outclassed he was. Nolan tossed out two punches which although Cryostasis never felt the need to block, his body had slightly flinched by the force.

That was all Nolan could manage as Cryostasis delivered a powerful back hand to his jaw causing blood to eject from his mouth like a hose. The relentless Cryostasis followed up by grabbing his opponent and tossing him into the ground, cratering it in the process.

  SNAP!

“AAAHHHHH!!!” A loud snapping sound was made audible as Cryostasis violently stomped on Nolan’s arm while he laid on the ground. The super soldiers had curled their upper lips at the sight of Nolan’s mangled arm, before turning their attention to the oncoming Lilith.

“Olivia!” Garnering the attention of her friend, Lilith yelled. Suddenly scratching her left hand with her right thumb, Olivia had responded to Lilith’s call with a gesture.

Immediately, Cryostasis had turned his attention to Lilith’s direction and appeared next to Frank who continued his chase.

  “Huh–”

  BOOM!

Delivering a powerful haymaker to the metal skin of Frank’s jaw, a thunderous bang was audible. The strike had blasted Frank through multiple buildings across hundreds of meters at immense speeds.

The super soldiers who were nearby and aiding Frank in his chase were blown away by the force.

The arm of Cryostasis’s clenched fist had suddenly drooped and bent in an awkward position, before dropping to his side as though the limb was dead.

“W-What…?” Laying on rubble of the building he crashed into, Frank had muttered. The side of his face which Cryostasis had punched was completely dented.

Turning her stride into a stance, Lilith had decelerated while sliding into a low crouch. She had placed the sword at her side, prepared to draw it.

The delirious Frank had slowly got up from the rubble, only to witness an amethyst colored light filling his vision in front of him.

  “Wha–”

  Sword Art: Splintering - Ricochet!

With a quick katana swing, Lilith had launched a super fast crescent beam of light straight towards Frank.

Kssht! Upon impact with Frank’s chest, blood had spurted from his body. The red paint was not the only thing which ejected from him, as the amethyst crescent beam had exploded into shards, bouncing around and tearing up nearby super soldiers.

“Bfft…urgh!” Struggling to get up from all fours, Frank grunted as blood pooled from his mouth. His durable body had become a bloody mess at the hands of Lilith.

Now…I can set my sights on Ada! I have to kill her right now while the strong ones are down! Lilith pondered as she turned her gaze and stood upright. As she ran, however, something caught her eye. Wait…why does it feel like there are even more soldiers here now than before…I’m sure we took down a lot–

“Lilith! Watch out!” The desperate yell of Olivia had garnered Lilith’s attention as she witnessed a sudden phenomena akin to a small dust storm rushing towards her.

“Urgh!” She had reflexively hopped out of the way, but a sharp sensation had plagued her left arm in the process. “AAAHHHHHH!!!!”

At the same time, the dust storm which passed Lilith had engulfed the lucid Cryostasis, and blood had immediately burst everywhere as if it were a juicer. The dust had settled to reveal what was left of Cryostasis: a pile of shredded flesh, with his organs exposed and destroyed, covered in a pool of blood.

“Urgh…sis,” Witnessing the occurrence, Frank had muttered in pain.

“Lilith!” Turning her attention to her friend, Olivia screamed out in worry. Lilith may have avoided a complete rock shaving bath, but she definitely wasn’t fine – her left arm had received the same treatment as Cryostasis…mangled and shredded with her flesh, blood and bone exposed.

“AAAHHHHHHH!!!” Clenching her arm in the process, Lilith screamed violently.

“Urgh…you goddamned bitches…” Standing atop ruined infrastructure was Charlotte, bloody and injured from her battle against Charles. “What the hell…have you done here?”
