Chapter 71. Are you a fraud.

“Are you a fraud?” Xania suddenly asked, causing everybody to turn to look at her.

“What?” The diviner asked, frowning slightly, “What is that supposed to mean?”

Xania suddenly pointed at Anise, confusing her, “Well, Anise said anybody with a glass orb in front of them is a fraud.”

“No, that's not… No, that's not what I meant,” Anise quickly interrupted before Xania could say anything else.

“Oh, that's what you meant? The glass orb is simply here for me to help project whatever I see to others if needed.” She clarified, smiling as if Xania had never even asked that question before.

“Oh, cool?” Xania said, not actually having expected the orb to have a purpose before running to Anise. “Anise, your turn. Please ask her whatever you have wanted to since we got here.”

“Alright, could you please divine a cyan and a red-haired woman related to us?” Anise asked, causing the diviner to get slightly annoyed before quickly hiding it.

“Is there a problem?” Anise asked, not wanting this trip to be a waste of time.

“Not really, it's just that such vague requests are typically harder, but I can still try it.” She closed her eyes and began to focus on the orb as the orb became fuzzy-looking.

“Is it supposed to do that?” Xania asked Anise, who smacked her lips. “Shh.”

Xania rubbed her lips in slight annoyance before Vasioelle suddenly tugged at her shirt, “keep quiet, mom needs to concentrate!” She shouted.

“Vasioelle… you're being the loudest,” the diviner said, barely hiding her irritation while still maintaining her concentration on the orb.

She reluctantly kept quiet as she kept watching, the orb slowly started to fill with seemingly random colours before Anise and Xania both appeared on the orb.

The cyan-haired woman appeared behind Xania, and the red-haired woman behind Anise, a red thread connecting Xania with the cyan-haired woman and a separate thread connecting Anise with the red-haired woman, with both of their faces blurred entirely.

The diviner then opened her eyes and turned to Vasioelle, “get out.” She said as Vasioelle stood there unmoving.

“What? Why?!” She argued back but the diviner stared at her sternly before she left angrily.

“It doesn't matter much, she could stay, y'know?” Xania spoke up after Vasioelle left.

“No, it's not that. If I inform somebody else of anything I divined about you, it increases the chances they will get caught up in your fates.” The diviner said, confusing Anise and Xania.

“Fates?” Xania asked, confused due to how unclear ‘fate’ could mean.

The diviner stared at the orb for a moment before turning back to Anise and Xania, “It simply means your futures, and from what I saw, it will be unstable.”

“Does that mean dangerous?” Anise asked with concern, due to having already died once before.

“It could mean anything, but it is typically dangerous. At the end of most of these journeys, people with such fates get rewarded, but those who don't make it typically get up dead.” The diviner said before suddenly hearing a soft footstep near the door, and walked up to the door before opening it, finding Vasioelle there, trying to listen.

“W-wait, mom, listen to me first.” She tried to explain herself, but kept quiet immediately after noticing the diviner's angry expression.

“How much did you hear?” She asked while trying to suppress her anger.

“Nothing, I swear!” She admitted quickly, not wanting to make the situation worse.

“Go back to the library and start sorting out the books. You're punished for the next 6 months!” She shouted angrily as Vasioelle kept trying to protest.

“But you've never stopped me from listening in before, why are you being strict this time?!” She argued, finding it extremely unfair.

“Go!” The diviner teleported her back to the library before taking a deep breath and walking back to Anise and Xania.

“Isn't that a bit harsh?” Xania asked, wondering why she had been punished for 6 months.

“Not really, 6 months is nothing in our lifetime, and I'll shorten it for her later. I’m just making sure she won’t try to come back. You two have the most unstable fates I've ever seen so I'm taking a precaution.” She said, sighing once again.

“Then aren't you risking yourself by reading our fates too?” Anise asked, not wanting to cause trouble for the diviner.

“I can protect myself but that girl, she can't. Anyways, let's get back to this,” she walked back behind the orb.

“These two people have blurred faces because they're dead,” she said bluntly, causing Anise and Xania to feel disappointed.

“But, they were either connected or were your past lives so finding out their identities may be of help to you in the future. I apologise but that's all I can learn from this,” she waved her hand over the orb causing the image to disappear.

“Well, it's better than nothing, so we'll take it,” Anise said before preparing to teleport out.

“Wait, before you go, feel free to visit every once in a while since your fates due to being unstable may change at any time and besides, my daughter seemed to like you quite a bit,” she turned to Xania and smiled slightly.

“Oh, by the way, I believe I can help you with your other problem,” she said, confusing Anise with Xania, wondering why Vasioelle would enjoy her presence.

“When dueling the chief, you can appoint a person to fight for you,” she said, not bothering to explain further as Anise understood it.

“Oh, thanks, it'd be a problem if he died due to his stupid mistake, Xania, how about you go back to Firal first?” Anise said, pushing Xania out of the room.

“Aren't you coming?” Xania asked, preparing to teleport herself

“In a short while,” Anise waved at her, trying to hurry her away.

“Alright, bye, I guess?” Xania teleported away, leaving Anise alone with the diviner.

“Hey, could I just ask… why do you not dislike her? She asked a few questions, most people would consider rude after all.” Anise asked the diviner as she pulled out another orb with an image of Xania there, along with the number 17% below it.

“What's that?” Anise pointed at it.

“It's like a maturity scale, it scales off a person's age, their maturity, their emotional intelligence, and whatnot.” She said before pulling out an orb with her daughter, with the number 15% below it.

“Your demon lord has a maturity similar to my daughter while somebody her age should be around 40 percent which is the average for most adults of most species so I treat her words somewhat like a child's.” She said while Anise kept glancing at both orbs.

“Oh, that makes a lot more sense. Alright, thanks for answering my personal question. I'll get going now.” Anise teleported away while the diviner waved at her while smiling.
