3.2. A bargain

The following days were painted by fear and deception, and the nights mostly spend cursing his stupidity.

The world operated on game logic, and no game ever presented you an extensive area like the Larv's capital only for you to run away at the first instance.

He had planned to be the Villain when creating this character, the intention seeming to enhance the vicious and violent tendencies of his other lives.

Thus, as he sat in a bar, the water around him filled with minor toxins capable of numbing the dissapointment he felt at his curiosity destroying all of his plans.

One night, as the money almost ran out, that he overheard a conversation.

Two Larv, one of bright green skin and the other purple in colour, were plotting a heist, and Jeolas had just the Idea to take advantage of the situation.

"Hello there, I couldn't help but overhear your little adventurous plans, and thought that maybe my help would be appreciated."

They looked at him and laughed, their disbelief obvious from the first moment onward.

"Don't worry, wo got everything covered. Hila here is great at picking locks, she git a perk that makes her mucus acidic. And I myself know the layout of the building, so long as nobody disturbs us, we should be done there within the hour."

The green one said, smiling proudly at their plan, making Jeolas chuckle.

"Please, who's going to be the distraction? You didn't mention your capacity for stealth, and I am uniquely suited for drawing peoples attention. Don't you feel it?"

The purple one flexed her frills, a common sign of approval among their kin.

""He's right, Tolan. Though you shouldn't disclose our plans to strangers, this one has a certain draw to him. Have you tried looking away as he speaks? Interrupting? It's hard, and I don't think those guards could do it. I put five points in will, and even I am having problems to do that."

She explained, her friend soon nodding.

"Sure, If they spot us though, we'll tell them that you were part of this operation."

They offered, Joelas thinking for a second before he recreated that feeling he had when he first encountered his current body, the way it felt like chains snaking along a petrified heart. And thus, he managed to recreate it. It took all his willpower to do so, the spell feeling as if it was alive when it wound inside his grip and wrestled his control.

Hila and Tolan were confused when the mysterious strangers eyes became gray for an instant, something reaching deep inside them as he uttered words much more dreadful than they should be.

They nodded, liking the Idea of someone helping them out for nothing but a favour.

They did not know what Joelas was preparing and, as he was at that moment too happy to get the spell to work, he did neither, just enjoying the feeling of his soul digging into theirs, small strands connecting them as it evaluated the worth of his actions, preparing to enforce the cotract should any side not do their part.

"Now, when will we start? I am itching to try out that beautiful plan I have just come up with."

The warden pressured, his grin somewhat devious as he waited for their answer.

"Tomorrow... normally we would tell a time, but that damned blanked of darkness makes it impossible to say when dawn begins. I guess we will start at the twelth bell from now?"

Tolan proposed, Hila agreeing with a sharp nod, before the group disbanded and Jeolas left to dissapear into the outside shadows.

"This might be stupid... but it's nice that the spell worked, though this one is rather exhausting."

"Threat received, always be fair and honest, otherwise I'll just die, I guess."

He commented, smiling when he finally found a fish corpse.

He rubbed the creature in his mucus, the sudden awakening followed by the fish itself producing a rancid slime upon animation forcing his smile to grow ever wider.

"I'm a walking natural catastrophe. Fish, do a barrel roll."

And it obeyed before the words were even spoken, slowly getting more and more gooy, until it turned into black sludge and drifted to the mucus on the surface, making Jeolas nod as he began to understand how his perks worked.

He smiled as it was now time to get his plan into motion, glancing over the simulated city map he had created during the last few days as he prepared some capsules of his mucus in the trash capsules, feeling his influence strengthen as tons of corpses rose from the dead, the command to hybernate stopping the natural progression of their decomposition by the water or the slimes effects.

"Now I only need a big stage again."

He concluded, grinning as he swam upwards and opening his interface.
