I was having another random dream, and then all the sudden, someone shook me awake. I groaned and tossed over, looking at Opal. I looked at our Cabin Clock at it said 4:39AM. "It's not morning, Op's." I whispered to her. Opal shook her head and smirked. She waved me over. She had a long coat on, boots, a flashlight dangling from a rope, a bag of granola, a poncho folded up neatly, so neatly in fact Opal was able to squeeze it into her pocket. And the last thing she had was a ice pack. "What the hell are you two planning?" Groaned Clay as he rolled out of bed. I shook my head and sighed. Opal bit her lip and glared down at the ground, as if she had personal issues with it. "We wanna explore. We've only been past like, one quarter of the camp's wilderness." She mumbled. Clay scoffed.
"And if we get caught?" I added. "They'll scold us! They'll tell our parents."
"My parents are dead, but... yeah, Walker's right. Plus Opal, we'll explore more tomorrow on our hike." Clay whispered.
Opal shot her head back and sneaked out the cabin door. I rubbed my eye and got out of my bunk. I reached for my shoes and fluffy coat and waited for Clay. "I swear," he muttered and followed behind me. Opal was waiting at the edge of the border for camp. "Let's see what's behind here!" She exclaimed softly. I yawned. This was a bad idea. Did I care at four in the morning! No! I thought this was still a dream. Clay and I followed her through the forest, dimly lit by moonlight. "I wanna venture the Hot Spring Valley." She could've just said I wanted to explore death. The Hot Spring Valley was known to separate people, even if you were a tough adult, you would be drifted apart and never seen again. Clay tugged on Opal's shoulder, not harshly, just enough to make her sort of trip. "Are you crazy!?" Clay yelled at her. Opal shrugged. "That's Hot Spring Death Valley!" I sputtered, scared for my life, as she was just shrugging away our concerns. Clay was staring at her like a disappointed parent. "I know it's not far," Opal said, taking another step. Clay opened his mouth to say something, but he just paused, looked around, and face-palmed. "Opal.." He groaned. She looked up with a angry expression. "Did you bring a map?"

The silence was so loud, you could hear the soft steps of a ant. My jaw dropped in fear. All the color probably drained from my face. "Opal!" Clay shouted. Opal sat on a rock and bit the inside of her cheek. I heard branches breaking as Clay and Opal argued. It was aggressive branch breaking, either. I looked over my shoulder. A grizzly bear! My jaw dropped wider as I saw it approach closer. "Shh," I urged, getting up and backing up past Opal and Clay. Opal's eyes opened wider than a donut when she saw the bear. "Run!" She screamed. Clay grabbed her and held her back as soon as she turned to take off. "Never run from a bear!" He scolded her. I kept backing up into trees as the grizzly bear lingered around. My heart pounded. "Pull out your flashlight, Ops." I said nervously. She pulled it out slowly and made sure it shone in the bear's face. The bear growled and charged to the left of all of us. I made a run for it, running back to the way we came before. I did have a good memory of trails, but not a great memory of people who might be eaten by a bear. I kept running 'till my legs gave out. My eyes hurt because I got 8 hours of sleep. I usually got 11-12. With occasional water breaks. I panted hard as I saw the cabin, and did a full sprint to the cabin wall. I turned back around and checked to see if Clay and Opal were there. The bear sounds faded as I saw Clay run out of the forest with Opal on his shoulders. "Opal, that was really stupid." Clay said, and carried her to Jake's Counselor Cabin. I headed back into bed. My head was probably going to be pounding by the time I woke up. We had to wake up at eight for breakfast. At eight-thirty, we needed to be dressed and ready for the day. I slowly opened the cabin door, making sure it didn't creak. I checked on Cooper, who had his blanket on the ground. He was hanging on the edge of his bed. Don't worry, he was on the bottom bunk. I checked the clock. 5:20AM. I yawned and dizzily got into my bunk, falling into bed sleepily. I draped my blanket over me and rolled over, closing my eyes and hoping tomorrow was smoother than last night. The ground made my ankles wet, which I hated, but didn't find a towel in the looming darkness. I slowly drifted off to sleep, catching a glimpse of Clay walk back to the Cabin without Opal, but that's about it.
