Ch. 41 - Next Move

“L-Lilith…don’t give up!” Olivia encouraged. “We still have a chance!”

Hearing the words of her friend, Lilith had been snapped out of her own disappointment and dejection. She had once again crouched, bending her knees and positioning herself in another sword drawing stance.

That man likely protected her…so what!? There’s no way I’m going to give up! Lilith pondered with furrowed eyebrows as the blade of her katana became illuminated with an amethyst purple light. There’s no way I’ll give up after coming this far! I’ll just hit her with everything!

Ada had slowly turned her cold sweat drenched face towards her apparent executioner. Occupied by the defected super soldiers, Nolan and Leon could only glance with frustration over to their president, whose life was in danger.

“Dammit! It’s time to get the hell up, Fraaannnk!!!” Yelling from the depths of his guts, Leon sharply ordered.

Sword Art: Splint– Though fully prepared to execute her technique, Lilith had witnessed Frank lunging through the air towards her. Her peripheral vision had noticed the stress eyed Frank raising the earthen club above his head as he closed in.

“Urgh!” Abandoning her intent of cutting down Ada, Lilith had instead held the katana overhead – holding each end of the blade – to block the incoming downward club strike. The ground beneath Lilith’s foot had sunk and cracked after the club had made impact with her sword.

“I’m going to kill you all!” Frank yelled as their weapons shuddered in the standstill, him struggling to crush Lilith while she struggled with bent knees to hold him back. “How dare you attack her, you sick bitch!”

  “Shut…up!” Lilith muttered. “I will…kill her!”

A pulsating vein had manifested itself on his metal shrouded forehead, his teeth gritting at the words of Lilith.

  “There’s nothing…you can–”

  BAM!

Unfortunately preoccupied with holding off Frank, Lilith had received a sudden boot to her jaw. She had been knocked tens of meters, bouncing across the dirt several times in the process.

The perpetrator of the kick was a super soldier, holding his leg in the air after striking Lilith.

“Lilith!” Olivia yelled with concern in her voice.

“Tsk…what?” Lilith muttered as she slowly picked herself off the ground, gazing at the man who kicked her. Her eyes then wandered around, as she witnessed dozens of super soldiers pulling up to the scene.

“Damn it! What took you bastards so long!?” Frank berated the super soldier who struck Lilith. “The president was in trouble because of you idiots!”

  “S-Sorry…we were–”

“Shut the hell up! I don’t want to hear your excuses!” Frank yelled as he grabbed the collar of the soldier. “Just protect the madam with your lives!”

  “Y-Yes, sir!”

Ada had not paid any of them any mind, she had something far greater which weighed on her mind. Her eyes were in a constant widened state, cold sweat continuing to run down her face and she had breathed as fast and as audibly as an energetic dog.

Most importantly, Ada constantly had wrapped her hands around her neck.

W-What is…this feeling? I-I didn’t even feel this with Zack blowing up the Whitehouse… Ada pondered as her body trembled. She came…up out of nowhere behind me. Her sword was so close…to my neck.

The spiraling Ada had tried to calm her breathing, only to audibly gulp in the process.

S-Someone actually made me feel the fear of death… Ada pondered. Nathan’s girlfriend…did that.

Suddenly, Ada’s bodyguards along with all the super soldiers in the vicinity, had been enshrouded in a red crimson light which took the shape of their bodies. It was almost identical with Ada’s phenomenon, but the color had been the only visual difference.

“The hell are you all waiting for!?” Nolan yelled as he held off a super soldier who fought for Olivia. “Get rid of them!”

With his words, Lilith had found herself rushed by the super soldiers. There wasn’t anything unusual with this, except for the peculiar reaction time allowing the soldiers to avoid Lilith’s slashes.

“They’re avoiding me!?” Lilith questioned with shock. “But they couldn’t before…how?”

“I feel like I’m filled with energy!” A super soldier commented. “And my body feels so much lighter!”

“No way–” Lilith remarked but was interrupted by Frank, who rushed to her side and swung his club at her. Although she parried it once again with her katana, she was launched from the force.

“Very good, Nolan,” Frank commended. “This boost is quite nice.”

A group of super soldiers had set their sights for Olivia, attempting to rush her. Their efforts were rendered moot with a single swipe of Cryostasis, blasting them away like ragdolls.

The author's narrative has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

Urgh…so they can react to me…? Is it because of the man called Nolan? Lilith pondered. They are making it quite difficult to kill her…so I have no choice. I have to use everything I have now.

Realizing the increased odds against her, Lilith simply took a deep, slow breath.

Charles, unlike his comrades, had his entertainment heightened with the addition of another opponent. Buildings continued to be razed to the ground thanks to the attacks of the fighters.

Dozens of lengthy ground spikes had protruded through the ground, hounding on Charles. Roads, bridges and other infrastructure were obliterated; nothing could hinder the spikes’ paths as it chased Charles.

Intercepting his path, the Queen Deathbringer had appeared atop a hotel a few blocks down. She had stretched her arms out towards the incoming Charles, and nigh invisible web-like strings had ejected from her palms and wrists.

Witnessing her presence, the grinning Charles had ceased his forward momentum and immediately leaped high into the air. The spikes were just a tad bit too late, as they crashed into the ground with a violent thud.

The Queen Deathbringer was not daunted by his avoidance, as she too hopped into the sky. The excited Charles watched with a grin as she boldly followed him.

“Good!” Charles remarked as his body jerked out of the air, the Queen ensnaring him with her strings. The lines on his body had once again roused blood as the strings dug into his skin. The spikes which had missed Charles and instead stabbed the ground had simultaneously cracked up and fragmented.

“Nrrgh!” With a grunt leaving her lips, the Queen had tossed the ensnared Charles downwards. The spikes which had fragmented into a large mound of ground shavings, had rushed upwards to meet its target.

“HAHAHA!” Releasing a high pitched laughter like a maniac, Charles had struck at the oncoming fragments. The resulting air gusts not only scattered the shavings all over the environment, but also propelled Charles back up with great velocity.

“Wha–AAAHHHH!!!” As she slowly descended relative to the sequence of actions that took place, the super soldier had widened her eyes at Charles’s attack. Her body bent uncomfortably as Charles grabbed her leg while ascending, the two spinning rapidly like a beyblade in the air.

Charles had released her leg, and with the help of the accumulated centrifugal force, the Queen Deathbringer had immediately crossed the city and tore through the walls of infrastructure with her own body.

“...Stop your grinning,” Witnessing Charles from dozens of meters away, Charlotte remarked. She had prevented an easy landing as Charles was greeted by a few more spikes rising up at him.

Bending his body to avoid the sharp end, Charles had slid down on one of the spikes. Attempting to stop Charles, the other spikes had protruded smaller spikes from their bodies. The attempt was useless as Charles had disappeared from the area.

Charlotte had reacted to his sudden disappearance with widened eyes and a backpedaling right foot, but it was unfortunate she had no eyes at the back of her head to react to the large piece of debris, seemingly a chunk of a now destroyed building inches away from her.

“AAAHHHHH!!!” Her screams became audible as the debris slammed into her body, rousing up a massive dust cloud in the process.

“Hahaha, come on, that won’t take you guys down, right?” Casually jogging nearby, Charles remarked. “You guys should be pretty tough!”

No sooner had those words uttered from his mouth had the Queen Deathbringer darted towards him. She had attempted a hook to his jaw, but of course, Charles had avoided it. She never had any luck with her webs either, as Charles hopped backwards as soon as the strings shot out her palms.

Although having full intent to dance with her in close quarters, Charles had witnessed sudden cracks in the ground.

The ground had erupted as spikes rushed out. Instinctively running, Charles had avoided a sudden onslaught of even more spikes.

“Urgh…” With blood running down her forehead, Charlotte had pulled herself from the debris she was trapped under. She had staggered as she walked, the injuries surely taking a toll on her body. “He’s…freaking dead!”

Charles constantly hopped around the place as spikes rushed out of the ground – it was as though they were playing whack a mole. His excitement was momentarily interrupted as Charles had witnessed the environment around him and the spikes Charlotte had defiled the ground with suddenly vibrating.

“Hmm?” Charles muttered as he witnessed buildings crumbling by the vibrations and tremors which travelled everywhere. Charlotte had stopped making spikes to play whack a mole with Charles as she had placed both hands on the ground. “Haha! What are you up to now?”

  BOOM!!!

A sizable portion of ground in the city had fired up massive chunks of rocks into the air. The concrete infrastructure that had been wrecked by their battle were no different, as debris were found in the air as well.

Charles watched with glee as the countless chunks rained throughout the city, flying through things as minor as trees and vehicles to things as important as radio towers.

“Hahaha, yes!” Witnessing the chunks flying towards him, Charles had winded his fist back to blow them away. His fist never listened though, and his body flew towards – as if magnetized – a rock chunk. “Ugh!”

“No you don’t,” The Queen Deathbringer remarked with an outstretched hand.

Thanks to the Queen Deathbringer’s wires pinning him to the debris and digging even more into his flesh in the process, Charles never got the chance to strike. After crashing into the ground with him, countless bangs had been audible as numerous debris piled up on Charles.

It never ceased until a massive plume of dust had covered the block, before revealing the massive mound that Charles was trapped underneath.

“Cough, cough!” Coughing up a bit of blood, Charles had staggered out of the hill of debris. “Haha…this is what I was waiting for–”

“Now!” Ignoring his words completely, the two women had suddenly encroached upon Charles’s personal space. With rocks compressed around her arm and fist, Charlotte had struck him in the jaw.

Jaw, chest, gut – the two women had taken turns as they laid several strikes into the staggering Charles. The punches which sounded like thunderous explosions had shown its effects, as blood repeatedly flew from his mouth.

“RRRAAHHH!!!” Swiping his hand in retaliation, Charles had immediately shut down their combination of attacks. The two women had been ragdolled by the sheer force of his swing.

Charlotte, in particular, had been grazed across her face by his fingers. Like a beyblade, she had spun around in the air as she flew, before slamming head first in the debris mound.

Charlotte sunk to the ground, her eyes had shut and her body remained unresponsive after the attack.

The Queen Deathbringer was in a far better condition, as she slowly pulled herself from the ground.

“Hahaha! You guys have exceeded my expectations!” Charles yelled with excitement as he bled. “Thank you for giving me such an exhilaration!”

S-Shit…don’t tell me that he killed Charlotte with that. The Queen Deathbringer pondered as she stole glances at the unconscious Charlotte. We have greatly injured him at least, but what is my next move?

“C’mon…it’s time to end this,” Charles remarked. “Let’s end this on a high note!”

Yeah…to him, this is just a fun game. It always has been. The Queen Deathbringer continued. His way of thinking is the type I hate the most. My next move…is to finish him.
